"Moot" is a simple yet academic word that really ought not be and which sounds very clever and intelligent if you can work it into your everyday discourse. For example, "I woke up this morning a-hungerin' for some Crunchy Nut Cornflakes, mother, but the milk is off so my hanker is now moot." A perfectly regular and commonplace expression if ever I saw one. Yet see how much cleverer and more intelligent it sounded for the adoption of moot! However, the fact remains that "moot" is a word containing a comedy extended vowel sound that is only one careless typographical error away from being a guttural, bovine utterance. It sounds like it might be the name of a devastating chess gambit or exotic shag tobacco. It rhymes with "woot". This is, indeed, a mighty word. | ||
