so i just got a friend invite beta key in mail, but all my friends that wanted a key already have one. i cant play beta at all because my computer doensnt have enough ram but im not worried because bw is better than any beta anyway.

I've played with the same group of friends for years now, from Counter-Strike to Brood War to WoW.
Now they're all playing Starcraft II. Except me. I apparently am the only jackass in the group that didn't get one. Even the guy with the crappy computer that sucks but we keep him around anyway? Yeah, he got an invite and I didn't.
TLDR: Same QQ as everyone else, but I'd like one.

I would love a SC2 beta key.
I have been an ardent Blizzard supporter since I first played StarCraft in 1999. Actually I loved them even earlier, as I was a huge Lost Vikings and Warcraft 1 fan, but I didn't know/care about that being Blizzard until later. I was a hardcore SC/BW fan for many years and joined TL in 2004, and though I don't post much, have been lurking avidly ever since. I stopped playing SC hardcore when Warcraft 3 came out, though I had honed my RTS skills enough to quickly became a top player. I was #1 on the USEast RoC ladder several different times and had one of the sickest Orc profiles. I don't play much War3 anymore as I never got into TFT, and there is a void in my life right now that I am used to filling with a Blizzard game. Enter StarCraft 2.
Aside from all that, I have diverse skills and knowledge that make me a rather good guy to owe you a favor. I write software to make part of my living and will probably write some tools for SC2 that are useful to the community. Thanks for considering me as a beta key contender.

I feel like I jumped into the Starcraft scene quite late. I played with my uncle back when I was very young but I was too young to be aware of the awesome community that was out there. Now that I've been playing on Iccup for a few months I am saddened by the fact that i missed out on the growth of the game and the development of the myriad of strategies that have come about over the games great history. I have wanted a key so bad but have not yet received one despite owning every Blizzard game since Warcraft II, even WoW unfortunately. I am worried that if I miss the Beta I will also lose my chance to be a part of the development of the game, I fear that by release much of the more intense and exciting stuff will have already become standardized. I want more than anything to contribute to the community through strategy development, something that I totally missed in BW. I promise that i will use your key to its fullest potential if you choose to give it to me. =D

been playing sc1 since 98. was good way back in day where i just 6 pooled ppl all day long and was uber gosu (not)
Since then i kinda quit (got involved with diablo, cs, mtg (lol), etc...)
got back to playing SC, mainly UMS, playing a lot of micro games and impossibles. joined clan xIMP, then joined TL... starting watching pro SC, got really interested. I like the theory behind the game though my hands were never fast enough (170 apm peak).
Would like SC2, because i'd actually take this seriously. I want to test myself and see my limits.

I'd love to finally be able to actually try out the game I've been watching nonstop on livestream and ustream for the past months. I bought Starcraft in 2000, played through the campaign, never even thought of trying the multiplayer mode. Then in 2008, I somehow came across a video called "JulyZerg vs. TheRock - Sauron Zerg". I remember my jaw dropping when I witnessed the beauty of July's control and macro in this game, I couldn't believe that was just one guy playing it (of course I had no idea what macro and micro meant back then, but watching the minimap in that game alone is impressive).
So after seeing the beauty of the swarm as demonstrated by a seasoned cerebrate, I decided to dust off my copy of Starcraft, found BroodWar in some German game magazine and my journey into the best RTS of all time began. Luckily I had some friends in school who also played and were just as noob as I was, so we were mostly messing around and having fun, playing FFA's and whatnot until someday I discovered TeamLiquid.net
Before long, I came across that name again: JulyZerg. I was still in awe of his skill and the discovery that there are more players like him out there, complete with a professional e-sports scene and big tournaments with a live audience. I started watching VODs (not many/no livestreams around back then) all day, I became more of a spectator, but I seriously loved every aspect of it. I stopped playing anything else entirely for about half a year, watching replays and VODs whenever I had the time.
I learned what Muta micro is and why it is so important, I learned that Scarabs can be real bitches from time to time (hello Much!) and I learned what the word Tushin meant and why it fits July perfectly. The morning he won the EVER OSL 2008 (it was a morning in Germany anyway) I just started giggling like mad and fistpumping at nothing in particular, I was so happy for him, getting the golden mouse after his long slump.
Of course I played a few games here and there, never made it past D level on ICCUP, but I'm trying to change that with the release of Starcraft II. After all, it will be a "fresh" game and I won't be joining in 9 years late.
So, that is my story and that is why I'd love to try out SCII beforehand, just for the sake of not missing the start of all of this again like I already did with BroodWar. Thanks for reading and good luck to everyone.

1) I dont see the betakey as a chance to try the game and play it like a demo. I signed up for opt-in since day one because it is in my interest to help shape starcraft 2 to the bennefit on e-sport! I have been testing other games before and i want to give constructive feedback to starcraft 2.
2) Im from the end of the world(denmark) and yet no preorder keys available
3) Starcraft was the first game i ever played online and still today it blows my mind away!

same here bro, its just so frustrating see-ing beta keys being handed out like candies everywhere else while the UK chaps just keeps getting shafted, been trying out all the competition on TL.net and all over the interwebs but still no luck in getting one, and them starcraft facebooks keeps giving out free keys but only to the US peeps who already get so many other ways of getting the keys its just ridiculous...
at this rate we're probably never gonna be getting into the beta until release

Well, some people probably deserved the key more than me, but I'll try anyways. I have been a fan of broodwar for quite a long time. Only played single player until a few years ago though, and when I got introduced to progaming, I fell in love with starcraft all over again.
I don't play broodwar competitively, but I would like to try and play starcraft 2 competitively, and what better way to get a headstart than to play first?
I have tried for multiple contest but so far I have had no luck, and no friends with beta either so no friend invites.
I also actually want to share it with a friend of mine who has been following the broodwar scene with me, but has also not gotten a key.
So, in conclusion you'll be making 2 long time broodwar fans who have no luck very happy

Been playing Starcraft/Broodwar since it came out, quite actively too. I opted in the day they opened it up, still no key. All my friends have keys, but none of them got extra keys from this wave. I feel left out!
I don't feel I deserve it any more then any of the other guys here, but atleast I would make good use of it(I play on very competive level!) if I got it. And I would be greatful for all eternity! :D
Ps. My cat Mia is having babies in like 3-5 days, and she would just LOVE it if you gave me the key ^^.

When they were a rare commodity it would be fairly selfish to request one. But now with the influx of keys coming both directly to tl and to the community I can justify it to myself.

The reason I would like a key is to be able to play with my little brother. He and I are really close, but now that I'm in college I don't have a chance to see him very much. We exchange emails and what not, but we used to always play video games together. We'd stay up after our parents went to bed to play each other and then both go to school the next day half asleep. If there was a fight between our parents, or they had too much to drink, a lot of the way we'd deal with it was just getting lost in videogames as soon as the air cleared (don't judge my family though, I don't think anyone's is perfect and ours is actually overall very happy).
We don't get a chance to play much anymore, since we mostly play console games and all our consoles are at home with my brother (I'm attending college half a continent away). The one computer game we do play with each other is Starcraft, partly because we love it and partly because it costs little/nothing to buy an extra copy/download it off ICCup. We've spent a ton of time over the years not even just playing the game, but making cool or funny maps and talking about the single player story mode. It's getting a little tougher lately because I'm not as into videogames anymore as I used to be except for Starcraft, but videogames remain our main subject of bonding.
We're preordering a copy of Starcraft 2 today, so we should have one key shortly. This is awesome, but honestly the main reason I would want to play beta would be to play with my brother. If we just have the one, I'm going to tell him to put it on his computer since I'm still in love with Brood War. I don't know if we'll be able to play the actual game with each other much when it comes out, since $60 is pretty expensive and finances are tight when I'm the first of four siblings that need to go through college and my Dad had to take early retirement a couple years ago, but if we could play the beta together that would be so awesome I can't even tell you.
Am I more deserving than anyone else? This isn't a sob story or anything, I'm not a starving kid in Africa. I'm also not some ICCup pro or anything, and I'm not sure what besides that could make one person more "deserving" than another. I just want to be able to at least play SC2 with my brother in beta, and if you think that's a worthy enough motive, I would be very grateful.

I've been playing sc for a long time, enjoy the game alot. Discovered quite a ground-breaking bug (bunker+lurker freeze) 10 years into the game, and it looks like nobody else has ever seen it. I think it would be interesting to play around in the SC2 beta to see what kind of nifty tricks I can pull out.
I've been entering contests day in and day out trying to get a key but have had no luck. I don't really have any hardcore sc friends either, so don't really have any connections to get a friend invite from
I like giving to the community and even tried to run a contest for TL. Unfortunately it looks like the beta coming out kind of killed it's interest.
Hopefully you can find it in your heart to give me a beta key

Well to be honest I think that all those who deserve a beta key must have at one point or another gotten it either through blizzard or some other means. In that regards the reason I want a beta key is for a chance to test out the game before its inevitable release and contribute to the improvement of the game, either through bug reports or just by playing and having my games reveal some in-balance issues or any nifty trick that needs to be fixed before the official release. With that being said it is also a chance to play the game before it is released, that is a fact that I can't deny, and it would be pretty awesome to try it out. I am a huge fan of blizzard games and I have all their games practically but unfortunately did not get a CD-key. I hope that with this post I get a chance at trying out the game and also knowing that I have contributed in the improvement of a game that I know I will love and enjoy for many years to come is why I want a CD-key. Thank you and congratulations to whomever wins.

There are 10 keys in my country all being occupied by media people...not really competitive players. I have a SCBW lan at my house for at least 2x per month the past 10 years. We play nothing else other than SC! As much as we love BW, we would are desperate to play SC2. My key will be shared with about 15 people! I hope that you consider us!

so i won't repeat what they were saying.
I played SC and WC3 competetive a long time. I'm pissed because Blizz doesn't opt-in extra people but instead invites the old ones friends.
Not that its a bad thing, but i think those others should've been given a chance too.
Also since i play competetive, i'm angry about the headstart for other players, i have much to learn and much to master, and i need to play.
Regardless of who the key will be given too, thanks for contributing to the community, you shall never be forgotten.

I have played starcraft for years on end now as most of the other people on this site however, I have not contributed particularly much to the community in the form of posting or giving advice. I guess that was cause enough to disqualify me right there, but I want to take a different angle on it.
I have been lurking in the shadows of a lot of threads and consequently been surprised at the shear number of posters who reply by:
1) Start out by saying they haven't taken time to watch whatever replay you posted and then continue to ramble about whatever.
2) Repeat what others say at lenght.
3) Rage about something someone else said.
So I guess the point I am trying to make is that I know when I am either disqualified for giving advice, I take care to read through the post of interest to see if someone has already said what I had to contribute with and I always keep my tone civil (this last one I guess you will just have to take my word for as I don't post much on TL).
In short, I know when to shut up and, consequently I don't say much. Therefore I deserve that beta-key.

Started playing Starcraft in 1997 using dial-up modem. I had to kill the sound with a pillow, to not wake my parents up  . I played for like 3-5 hours each day, raking the internet-bill up to be quite large. But as time went by, I got quite good at the game. At some point, I was probably one of the top 15 players in Norway. Now, I will admit that my Starcraft time has been dwindling the past years, mostly because I got alittle bored of it. But I still watch VODs and live korean shows on streams.
But, I still LOVE the game, and I follow Blizzards progress like a fucking shadow. Now, why should you give me the key? Well, I am a person that can easily play the game for 3-4 hours straight, just to see what works and what doesn't. I love to learn, explore and try new stuff.
So basically - I play alot, I get better. This is my first time in a RTS beta(If I get the key), but I've been in the WoW beta, and I delivered feedback all the time. Just because I got annoyed by bugs or something that would seem OP/fucked up.
Anyway, post getting too long. I hope you read, and hit me up with an answer soon! <3

okay, I 'll write up another one.. For me, I was A high iccup, won some tournaments, one of which I won a i7 processor worth at retail price of more than $1200. My gf helped me win a beta key a week ago and since then, I am now #1 in my platinum division.
My gf's completely the opposite. She wasn't so good at bw, and I'm sure she'll be in copper league or perhaps the bronze league..but I'm sure she will give interesting feedbacks b/c she complains at things that she don't like. Whenever I play sc2, she thinks it's awesome and loves the new graphics. She wants to play it herself as well.

You know self-justification is probably one of the most horribly difficult disciplines you could ask of other people. Not easy either after the epic fail of mine a just above. Oh sweet irony. 
Anyhow, I have spent enough time on bw that my studies were probably hanging in the balance from time to time. That in itself does not really qualify me as I never took it anywhere. Only recently(1½ years ago) with the arrival of english commentaries have I developed an interest for game mechanics and the intricacies of 1on1.
I'm not sure how far I have progressed as a protoss player but I have an apm of 200 in 3v3 and 160 in 1on1. The MU I understand the best is probably pvt. I understand it enough that I can get an idea about whether to go FE, 2 gate nex, 1 gate robo or go for a timing attack such as a bulldog rush or similar based on scouting information. Oh and I am good enough to understand that my unit control (especially reaver and shuttle) could use a bit of polishing.
Besides of that I guess I can just say that I really love Starcraft Broodwar and I would hate to see Starcraft 2 fail.
As for possibilities of getting a Beta-key with a pre-order I think that is still possible here in Denmark. I have no idea yet though, as I haven't researched it and I don't really have the financial room to make a preorder right now.

I can't say that i am a good Starcraft 1 player, since i played more Warcraft 3 (Level 34, not the best but not the worst one also) and i have a large understanding of RTS Games, since i played most of the recent ones, some of them even competetive (Dawn of War, Red Alert 3, Warcraft 3 for example)
I participated in the Dawn of War Beta as well as Red Alert 3 Beta (some others too, but they arent nearly as RTS as i wish they would be) and i am able to provide feedbacks, lead discussions to where they should be.
Also i would be active in the official blizzard forums, but they require a beta key sadly.. I don't agree with the mainstream and i try to use creativity to maximize the utility of whats given, playing vs the cpu though, isn't helpful and can't be used in discussions or whatsoever.
Thats why i need a beta key, i want to improve the game AND myself, while playing and testing, i dont even mind if you activate it on your account and let me play on it, to "test" me if thats what im writing is true.
To the Preorder thingy, let me explain:
I preordered my SC2 in February @ our local gamestop store. I won't cancel the preorder because i already payed 5 euros for it, sadly they wont give out any beta keys. Thats why i post again.
I hope you do understand what i'm trying to tell ya, since im not a native english speaker.

Solax sounds good but you say you arnt good and didnt mention any friends that also need beta..so only you would be using it actively as far as i know. Id rather have 1 good player who knows what hes talking about or several enthusiastic bad players, not just 1 enthusiastic bad player :p
i know i sound harsh, i just want to scope out whos who so i make the best decision to benefit as many people + the development of the game as much as possible. If you have anything to add, keep posting, you may still get a key if there arnt any better options O.o

I literally play starcraft 8 hours a day. With a beta key, it would be sc2 for 8 hours a day. My max iccup rank isn't that great, c at best, which isn't that great really.
Like I mentioned before though, I'm a creative player, and discovered the bunker freeze glitch that NOBODY on tl knew about, 10 years into the game.

the gamesense in general is different in Starcraft 2, so i would have to learn it, even if i would be a good Starcraft Player.
As i said, i played almost every RTS out there, and warcraft 3 level 34 isn't something i would call bad
Yes, i do not have the gamesense in Starcraft 1 because i started to late, but i would say d+ after 1 season is okay
It's a matter of training, reading and understanding the game, all those i would say i'm good at.
Only then you can provide GOOD feedback, you won't find anyone who can provide superb SC2 Beta Feedback without having him play Starcraft 2.

Seeing that you are from Canada etc. But, I did play some with [GG99]Slayer, eriador/Hasudrone at one time. I lost, but atleast they found me worthy of playing with them ^^. But I did play before Sc turned into science, and all buildorders were pre-determined. But that should tell you that I had to LEARN everything from scratch, and that I did it with an open mind . Anyway, I can't tell you I will be the best Sc2 player from everyone trying to get a key here, but I can guarantee you that I will try! ^^

I am also giving a beta key to lan lan lan who seems to be the highest ranked person that responded, plays actively, and apparently made me a banner which i have yet to see. (if this turns out to be bullshit i will be very disappointed sir)

Lol, I suppose I should have mentioned that in my country there are no beta keys at all (Egypt). Heck I don't think anybody in my whole continent of Africa got a Beta Key. None of my friends who play starcraft and applied on Bnet got any beta keys. I guess blizzard just doesn't feel like Africa as a continent can contribute to improving the game. Congratulations to inforsomechop.

I would like a key. I played regularly against DuskBin.Marine and I'm pretty much the one person actively recording FPVODs for BW in Malaysia lol. Other than that, trying to spread SC around in this very RTS lacking country and teaching people how to play BW competitively lol.
If I get the beta key, it'd be also a lot helpful for showing decent level of play (in FPVODs of course) which allows ppl to compare between Good players and not as good lol.
