Is Korea the HUGE clusterfuck of gamers that everyone makes it out to be? Yes they carry DT-35's pretty much everywhere but no, the word "StarCraft" does not get the PC Bang owner to bring you a DT-35. No way in hell. Plus the players probably wouldn't like it either.

(ie China values athletes, a lot of western cultures value doctors, etc) We as koreans love to follow our superstars, in whatever form they might present themselves. Our nations soccer team going deep in the world cup inspired a vigor unlike any seen in years and now koreans love their international soccer..but only when Korea is playing. Just like archery at the olympics or speed skating. Koreans are kind of vain. They are absolutely in love with any form of 'superstar' in Korea be it an actor or a singer or a sportstar. They are the upper echelon of what koreans care about. As for individual professions it seems to me that the company you work for and how high up you are is what people care about more in regards to jobs, not necessarily any specific job. Like every young girl who wants to be a stewardess aspires to be a Korean air flight attendant, not some low class China Air flight attendant. Koreans are always really quick to assign value to things in order. There always has to be a 'best' something with Koreans.

Is Korea the HUGE clusterfuck of gamers that everyone makes it out to be? I mean everything is relative, but obviously a guy that runs a computer store knows what a starcraft keyboard is. Are the streets littered with little kids running around pinching their nipples saying JAEDONG JAEDONG JAEDONG? No. they are not. But koreans do love their games. FYI there are definitely more people watching starcraft that almost never play/played the game than people who play regularly or semi-regularly though.

No, the government really does not care and this 'hardcore' approach carries over into the education system much more rigorously than you see in e-sports.
