At the moment I am a senior in high school. I have no idea what I want to do after high school. I currently have around a 2.7 GPA (I don't really like doing homework, lol) and I haven't really applied to any colleges.

Right now, I see about three options for what I could do after high school. First of all, I could go to college. However, I really don't want to because I'm just so sick of school and everything right now. I really love physics, chemistry, and math but... I really don't want to go to school anymore. On the bright side, if I do go to college I'll have a good amount of credits completed already just from AP tests (assuming they accept them as credit), I've taken five so far and I plan on taking at least three more this year.

Another thing I've been thinking about is going to trade school and becoming a mechanic, or something along those lines. I've always loved to take stuff apart, try to fix it, rebuild it, and do things like that. I have tons of tools (it's all my dad buys for me at Christmas/my birthdays, it's pretty sick actually haha) and I love using them. Right now I'm taking apart an old engine and my dad is helping me and showing me what everything is and stuff. On top of that, I dirtbike with my dad and we always mess around with our bikes and shit and fix them up.

The last option is the military. I checked out the army's website but I don't feel like I can get very good information there considering all the stuff is talking about how great the army is, but I really don't know anything about it.

Any advice anyone could give on any of these subjects or... anything really about what I could do would be great, thanks.

Isn't it too late to apply to colleges now? The deadline for most schools is around January. I'd go for trade school over military. The only reason for you to goto military right now is if you need money.

Go out into the real world. Work for a while and try to figure out what you want to do, there's no reason to force the issue, and there's no "right" path that fits everyone. Later, you can go to a community college and transfer to a good university if you want to. At the very least you can get an associates degree. Good luck!

Here's advice, every time you procrastinate, think of me.
That'll scare you straight.

I can't offer any specific advice but whatever you choose to do, make sure you're into it cause life's not gonna get any better otherwise.

If you like the trades, and like that type of work, I would recommend looking into it. The money for trades is amazing, especially electrician / welder, but even things like scaffolding can be lucrative.

There is so much pressure to go to college that I think people lose sight of other options. Even if you start trade school and change your mind for college I think that is more beneficial than starting college and changing your mind for a trade.

I have no opinion on the army except that I don't want to shoot people or die.

If you don't feel like studying now, try to look for a job if possible and work for a while, doing things that you're interested in (fixing stuffs as mentioned).

I would say with real life working experience in hand, college/university courses turn out to be much more interesting.

Of your options, go trades. Sick money and there's tons of options depending on your interests. From contractors to pipeline welders, there's so many trades to pick from.

I would suggest the college route but I'm biased . Check out community college at least. Fill out a fafsa and all that.

Btw, math is awesome. You can always fix up cars as a hobby, it's a lot harder to learn math/physics in a vaccum.

In the end though, it comes down to what you really want to do. If you're unsure (sounds like you are) look into all your options, apply to some schools you wouldn't mind going to, look into some apprenticeships...and stuff...actually, I have no idea what you have to do to get your foot in the door in a trade job lol. But whatever that is, look into it.

Good luck, and remember it's your future so take ownership of it

thanks for all the good advice so far everyone, i never really thought i'd join the military so i guess i can cross that one off the list from what everyone has said haha. i guess atm i'm leaning towards trade school, which it seems like the best option as i could always go to college later and fix up cars as a hobby.

Or you can go to community college and take a few classes, and transfer to a state college after 1 year.

Or somehow get sc2 beta and convince yourself/yourfriends/your parents taht you're gonna be a progamer.

TBH, I think all three of your options are very good options.

I've taken the education route, but I have lots of friends who did apprenticeships instead (i.e. hands-on work), and I always envied the way they live their lives.

Army is a great stepping stone between high school and the real world, and it will inevitably teach you valuable life lessons you may never or take a very long time to acquire. Additionally, and perhaps more importantly, you think re-evaluate your situation during the time you serve the army. Numerous countries mandate army service, so I don't think it's a bad thing at all. Also, serving the army will help you with
a) running for offices (afaik)
b) price reduction for state universities (afaik)
When you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it.

Go to Evergreen. You can take only CSMP stuff and they will give you a shit load of AP credits (8 credits for a 2)

Definitely keep the military as your last option. You'll know if you want to join or not, don't join just because you think you have no other place to turn.

I would for sure try community college or working on developing a career like M7 is talking about. Community college is much different than high school and I think you might like it, you're definitely smart enough for it. Even a vocational school.

From there you can get a degree if you so desired, or develop hands-on experience in a specific profession(electrician or something??), and if you can't stand CC, you don't lose a lot of money or time. Just my opinion.

I should add in that my 9 AP tests resulted in like 35 units of credit so my GE was an easy ride(California.)
Im pretty good at whistling with my hands, especially when Im holding a whistle.

You should probably go to college. It's not at all like High School. It's not too late to try to apply to your local state school. I think just about every one will take students during all of spring if they can. If you have a score, great. If you don't, the next SAT is on the 13th, you can do a walk-in at a big test center, you'll probably get in. Otherwise next ACT is on April 10th. With your AP credits you could finish faster and pay less. Unless you just hate educational institutions in general, I think you can find a large state college to be a pleasant change from high school. Of course there is nothing wrong with any of the other options, except for the military because training to kill people sucks. But if you can do math and science, a degree in that will quickly recoup not only the explicit cost but also the opportunity cost of going to college.
Blessed is the mind too small for doubt.

i mean, judging by the way you wrote this post it seems like the trade school stuff is what you enjoy/want to do the most right now so why the hell not? just because highschools and society pressure you to go to college doesn't mean its the correct choice for everyone. military? bleh.

Yeah.... trade schools are usually short and relatively cheap. It doesn't permanently fuck you like getting a four year degree and deciding you hate your job. Or joining the military.

Alternatively, there is nothing wrong with working for a year and getting a handle on what you wanna do. I know some mechanics will hire kids who have an interest in things like that.

But you really, really shouldn't go to college until you feel you're ready. I blew through $10K+ and a year and a half of time doing that.

Don't forget your option of working somewhere like home depot! You get to learn how awful it is to work in retail and also expose yourself to tons of information about the true nature of a lot of trades.

Working for a year is good, you have the best motivation to choose a career ever if you don't like it. Also your brain does a lot of developing into your 20's, so you might not be as smart as you will be.
