Newsletter I guess this is just a happy post if anything I know its from the Eve Newsletter cause I don't have the PCGamer magazine but hell, Eve > WoW I know there are some WoW fans that are going to err kinda hate this but, I <3 eve and I've always thought it doesn't get recognized enough as most of the people tend to quite REALLY early because of the really steep learning curve shown Here No, eve is waaay past the second genesis and the learning curve is a little less steeper but hell its still really hard :D

fuck yea WoW isnt the best. now whats Eve?
|
Ummmm, I don't think a wow expansion pack was released in 2009, so that might be why eve won, unless eve didn't have anything come out for that year either too.

So like, could you describe what makes it better than WoW?
I'm a former WoW addict, and it was the only MMO I've ever played. A large part of why I quit was that they kept making PvE content easier, except for only the most cutting edge 25 man hardmodes, which you had to raid 20+ hours a week to even see. Wasn't ever a big fan of PvP in WoW.
I guess what I like about MMOs is the aspect of binding together with a group of players and overcoming tough obstacles through strategy and individual skill. Does EVE have that?

Oh, its THIS thread again.

they are extremely different MMORPGs

That pic was hilarious xD And so true.. If I had the time and money I'd play Eve still, but I never got past trials.. It's a great game, though.

Having played both, I can say WoW was overall a better designed game. Eve just had a better player base.
That being said, one is more of hack n slash, the other is a Simulator. Eve was only as fun as long as the drama happened. Otherwise is was the one dreary fleet after the next. Oh wait. Raids. Lawl

I find it amusing that PC Gamer has to rely on WoW's name to attract attention. Eve Online isn't even mentioned on the cover. It's just "The MMO that whupped World of Warcraft."

You can't even compare WoW and Eve, they are completely different games.
I played WoW for 4 years and loved it, but now it's so favored towards casuals it's kind of sickening. I tried the Eve trial and it was just too much for me, but I did think it was really cool.

This really characterizes the way the two games are different.
Ignoring the nitty-gritty fundamentals, Eve's high-level content is driven by player interactions, while WoW's is driven by interaction with the world. Let's face it, the prime high-level content of WoW is raiding. PvP and arenas are fun, but those that really devote themselves to it have to be a decided minority, and even with that, they certainly take a backseat to the raiding crowd in Blizzard's attention. Eve's uniqueness comes from the fact that anything analogous to raiding takes a backseat in the player experience. The high-level content comes about entirely from the manipulations and power-plays made by corporations.
In one sense, this is really the ultimate end-goal of an MMO: to create a self-sustaining, player-driven virtual world. Ultimately though, Eve would never work on WoW's scale. It thrives because of it's devoted player base, and a player base the size of WoW's simply couldn't keep to the "role-playing" that's required to make Eve what it is.

Yeah, with a title like that, I was absolutely certain the article would be about Hello Kitty Online

huh
I thought Eve got more people to play than WoW. Disappointed.
PCGamer opinion -> Don't care

we get it people don't like WoW, and everyone wants to do better than it. Despite the claims of many other reviewers, players who quit or just angry nerds WoW is more successful. Who knows what would've happend if Eve had came first? What we do know is that this age-old discussion is just that, age-old.
