I just heard that I got a job. I will be working for Interac, a company that sends assistant language teachers to Japan to teach English. My contract will be from August to April, with the ability to renew it if I don't do horribly. I have been really trying to get an ESL teaching job abroad since I graduated last May and I finally did it.

I have heard some bad things and some good things about the company, but after quite a bit of research (thanks Mani!), I have concluded that it is a great opportunity and I should definitely go with it. I have never visited Japan or lived for a period over one month in a single foreign country, so this is very exciting.

I will most likely be in rural Japan (I won't know exactly where until very close to the date that I leave), which initially didn't sound as great. I'm warming up to the idea though, because 1) rural Japan is still rather close to urban Japan, and 2) it should be more laid back, which will mitigate the stress that I'm sure will afflict me when dealing with a foreign culture and a language barrier.

Well, I'm really excited about this and felt like shouting from the mountaintops. Seeing as TL is kinda like a mountaintop, you got to hear all about it.

Congrats man, sounds great. I study abroad myself, but moving to Prague from Norway is in my opinion less exciting than going to Japan, so I'm a bit envious of you. Good luck with everything, though. Hopefully the Japanese population in general are better in English than the Czech, because it really makes it harder.

Nice, congrats!

Congrats,
One advice for you though: Try to learn Japanese at the same time you are teaching English. You will never know when your extra language skill will come in handy later in your life.
Tips: Find a Japanese girlfriend asap once you've settle in Japan.
Good luck

Thanks for all of the encouragement and nice responses.

I already have learned quite a bit of Japanese in academic settings throughout the past several years, but due to the way my college worked (block plan: one class for 18 days, repeat 9 times), it was very hard to retain much. I am sure that my vocabulary will come back to me much more quickly than if I were trying to learn it from scratch.

I certainly will still spend time on TL next year, and I expect to post about my experiences.
