Dude, The only way to play Left 4 Dead 2 is through steam. If anything, having a retail copy is better. because not only can you download/install through steam, you could do it off your disk. I have no idea what you're talking about. If you didn't want to install through your drive you could just pop in the key and start the download immediately of steam. Honestly, I'm confused.
