So if you guys read my last blog, I ranted about how I just quit sc. Here's just a small update on things.
First thing I noticed after I quit was that my social life took a HUGE pummeling. I really didn't realize it when I was playing starcraft but the majority of the people I associated with became fellow sc nerds...for the past year plus. It's kind of funny now realizing how many few irl friends I talk to/see regularly. Social networking time gogo.
Anyway, I went to a club last week finally after being of legal age for about 6 months (I am 19). Interesting experience. I realized first that I had like no new clothes (why dress up when spending every friday night playing sc right?). When my friends and I got there...something really important hit me...I COMPLETELY...like utterly and completely...forgot how to talk/associate with females. I considered myself pretty ok with girls before the past year of starcraft, not amazing but not bad either. I completely forgot about the eye contact thing, starting conversations, all that bs.
Turns out the club itself blew according to my friends (who had been clubbing several times), and I had to agree with them. The dance floor was tiny and hardly anybody was grinding which made things pretty boring. That plus since I had completely forgotten how to deal with the ladies, I pretty well did nothing at all, which I felt really weird about because normally I am not like that. Kind of funny how over a year of active sc will do that kind of thing.
School-wise, I gotta say, even though I am not as on-schedule as I want to be, I am doing wayyy better than last year. No more build orders and psi counts running through my brain 24/7...it's quite nice actually. My sleeping schedule is still a bit fucked up but it's better than before (lol I think many of you would agree with me that sc completely anals your sleeping schedule).
Also I started working out again! It's been about a month and a half and I feel way better.
Oh and to fufill my gaming need, I have gotten into Smash Bros Melee . Really dope community and I recommend it to anybody trying to get into the game because it's really fun and WAY less-demanding than starcraft.
Back to normal life haha.

Congrats - its good to hear that you aren't suffering from withdrawal symptoms.
You WILL get the ladies eventually. Don't fear.
|
Nice to see that your life is back on track.
I, myself, don't really play Starcraft as much. I'm going to say I play like 2-3 games in a three day period. However, I have finally broken the addiction to this game. My life is back on track as well, minus the socializing part. I really fucked up on school last year and all I did was smoke weed, hang out with friends, and play Starcraft. Now I am studying hard in college, hoping to get good grades, transfer out, and maybe get a girlfriend.
I'm not saying that Starcraft is a bad game for you but it will harm you if you don't know how to self-control. I came to realize that at the C level, I've worked this hard but what do I gain from it personally? Really, nothing.
|
i would also blame starcraft for your knuckles being white from inner tension and pants crusted with semen from constantly jacking off when you cant find a rape victim

rofl wtf?
Also I find it absolutely hilarious the line that the nightclub was shit cause no one was grinding, so people (women) have to be acting like complete and utter whores for it to be any decent to you? lol :s

Mhmm true that I was C- aiming for C and I agree.
Of course though, if somebody is really passionate about sc then by all means go for it.

Lol I don't see how grinding makes them whores...it's just fun. Girls like it too you know. (Edit: I love the bandwagon of people who assume that any time a girl is involved in anything sexual it makes them a whore. Come off it already, girls obviously want to be sexual as well as guys in certain situations, it doesn't make them a whore). The club was bad in general besides that as well. And the reason why no girls were "decent for me" was not them but me b/c I didn't make any moves :S
Thanks for the nice low rating though I noticed the drop.

hey resonance, nice to see you've moved on to something better and you don't regret leaving SC. maybe 1 day when you get back we can play a couple of games.
|
i rofl'd after EVERY paragraph
i didnt know people like you existed, being THAT into sc and not a top foreigner, i mean, WOW. :D
|
I play about 10 games or more per day and I still go out on fridays and during the weekend. Isn't that possible for you too? And I still have time for my studies aswell. Looks like your problem was about time management.
Anyways, congratulations if you are happier this way
|
I'd put SC over clubbing any day. It's not to say that playing SC 24/7 is a good thing though. I'm just not a clubbing type.

amen brother.
Thanks OP for coming back from "real life" to tell us all what it is like. I'll be sure to send you a PM with updates from SC fantasy land as soon as the damn baby stops crying and I don't have to work an evening shift on top of the day shift.

Heh I can kinda relate to this, there was a period of time where I played a ridiculous amount of BW, though I still had time to go to school and do things with friends etc. it was mainly my sleep that suffered in retrospect, often staying up to 4 or 4:30 AM when having to get up around 7:30 to go to school lol, good times.
But Mani tells the truth lol, it's perfectly possible to play BW and maintain an ordinary life.

"you wont be able to see his eyes because if T-shades.."
fear and loathing^^

lol first thing that came into my mind was something like this:
This was me before starcraft
This is how I am today
=(
loool gl man this is another reason why i quit sc almost half a year ago...
|
Never really had that problem, since I get a bit tired after 2-3 games, since most games are over so quickly, its the whole build order part over and over again, which kinda bores me..allthough I fear sc2 will fuck me up :D
Anyway, grats to you for improving, gl further.
|
roflroflrofl...
i think its just a time managment problem... i mean, i have wasted 5 hrs a day playing pokemon rofl.
especially if your in college, the freetime you have is ridiculous. i have 15 credits of class, 10+hrs of work a week, and i'm an assistant at 2 different labs, i have a gf, and i still find time to play SC.

i love how people think its all or nothing on stuff. it is possible to balance work/leisure without being completely irresponsible of it. if it wasn't SC, you'd have wasted your time / gotten addicted to something else.
|
But still TL >> SC
I've came back in playing FPS games which I can say I'm really good at but my heart will now be forever TL..
|
I still play, but I wouldn't consider myself a nerd. I ladder with some clanmates every couple days or so, so it's not a lifestyle thing for me. It was last year that was a little worse for me I think. I think I've got a pretty decent balance now. It's your choice though, good luck with the ladies reso!
|
Fighting games are fun. Games of SC take long time to play and you can't just play one. Getting old is sad in a way I guess~
|
*Cry* Just balance your free time and continue to play. I only find time to play certain days of the week.

Yeah it is, i work full-time and go to class after and still manage to keep good grades, go to sleep normaly (about 12 am which is normal for me even before SC) and do waht i need to at work, GJ and GL Res.

I played a bunch during the summer, but as soon as i got to school i hardly play any more because there's so much shit to do ~~ now i just play a couple games and ums. still manage to waste hours a day on tl though

It gets exponentially harder once you have a child. Something's got to give unfortunately.

I think all the stories of progamers playing 18 hours a day gives people some ideal that even to play it casually you need to sacrifice you life for the game

yeah.. STARCRAFT is the reason for all your problems... Give me a break. If you let SC get in the way of your life, you'll need to be careful about clubbing getting in the way of your life too. Booze and dancing all night is not exactly the key to success in school or work. You're also not going to get a long-term relationship out of some girl who likes grinding up against strangers lol.
In the end, the only thing that's changed is the game you're playing. You haven't improved at all.
|
wow dude, i guess we have some things in common. I'm totally playing SSBM right now, and hardly any SC (although I never really played that much to begin with). I'm not so off with the whole socializing thing I guess, I just went to this amazing hypnotist show on campus with a couple girls that I just met the same day ^^ My sleep schedule was effed up because I was watching proleague, but now that it's the offseason i can go to bed at a reasonable hour. I'm also going to start working out more, i feel so weak D= Anyway, have fun irl! Don't forget to micro yourself properly XD
edit: lol at you calling stuff like eye contact, conversations and whatnot "bs." That's so true >_<

yeah, i agree with chef´s post. You can play SC in your FREE time, but still be successful at school or job, go to the gym and ocassionally go out at night, etc. And i don´t see why getting drunk and dancing in a night club is better than playing a game... it´s all about preferences (and u can always do both, or alternate). And, i think that 90% of the times other environments are better for socializing, like u can get to know people better at school or at work if u wanna get serious friendships/relationships..
|
Sorry, but what exactly is 'free time'?

That was really rude. You made a lot of assumptions. Firstly I don't drink. Never have and don't intend to, so "booze and dancing all night" doesn't describe me at all. I went clubbing once; I don't see what is wrong with that. I am not looking for a long-term relationship at a club obviously...it's just for fun -.- I will be even more honest, the main reason why I enjoy grinding/dancing w/e is because it's a safe way to have fun with a girl. I don't go to house parties and do stupid things so I see dancing with girls as a fun alternative.
Again, really unnecessary when I am being positive and telling you guys about my life.
And to all the people who can play sc competitively and have a social life and go to school/work etc. congrats seriously b/c I cannot do it. I get wayyy too into the game (I explained in my last blog).
