Will videogames become better than life?

http://www.ted.com/index.php/talks/david_perry_on_videogames.html

A ted conference were David Perry goes first a little into the history of gaming.. it's funny, I played literally every one early game showed, I pretty much saw the e-game industry grow up, as a gamer, in a way I was at ground zero in this reality.. anyway then there is a presentation of a student who claims he is a video game addict and encourages the great debate about gaming and our current reality well worth watching (although I can't say i agree with most of it lol). The conference also has some gaming statistics (warning some outdated, but trends still true).

Of note when I watched this ted talk, I rated this talk "ok" and I don't think the speaker actually ever made a decent game (I never played or saw earthworm though); but his message is worth listening to. Anyway for those old enuf, as one of the better comments left in that ted page said, enjoy the trip down memory lane ~

- other TED gamign related videos - all worth watching : )
(each will give you a glimpse into the future of gaming too)
http://www.ted.com/index.php/talks/johnny_lee_demos_wii_remote_hacks.html
http://www.ted.com/index.php/talks/torsten_reil_studies_biology_to_make_animation.html
(I rated both jaw-dropping)

Starcraft is already more mentally stimulating than a considerable portion of every day life so

Depends on the kind of life you're living. Noob.

Social Justice is a fools errand. May all the adherents at its church be thwarted. Of all the religions I have come across, it is by far the most detestable.

In today's standards, his games could not be called decent but in those days, Earthworm Jim and MDK were solid fun games. But it looks like he's gone more to the business side of things.

AI? There isn't any afaik

PS - Physician, Are you a member of TED, like do you go to the meet ups and stuff? You are the person who introduced me to TEDtalks if i'm not mistaken a long while back via TL and I thank you for that. The only thing I hate about TED is the god damned intro, I always forget how loud it is and it scares the shit out of me sometimes.

BoT, He said Wow had 5.5 million subscribers banking Blizz 80million a month and the game only cost that much to make in the first place. HOLY SHIT, and guess what that figure is wrong, because wow is up to 12/13 million subscribers now.

Just finished watching now. That last half of the video about the addicted guy is trash.
..and then I would, ya know, check em'. (Aka SpoR)

- now if you want to be there in person all you have to do is pay up and enjoy; there is also an associate status, but unless you can run it off as a tax deduction it's not worth the money http://www.ted.com/pages/view/id/221

The most recent statistics revealed that the video game industry is worth more than the music industry and it is also worth more than the home video industry. It is comprised of 53% of the total entertainment market.

The video game industry just keeps on growing. Its been outselling the hollywood box office sales for several years now.

Here's what blows my mind...I get the feeling that the way people in 2100 will think about turn of the 2000 century vid games is the way WE think about cup and ball in 1900, looking at how much vid games have already progressed in 20 years and judging that it will probably be greatly increased with new technology, potentially exponentially.
"Oh no, we've drawn Judge Schneider" "Is that bad?" "Well, he's had it in for me ever since I kinda ran over his dog" "You did?" "Yeah...if you replace the word *kinda* with *repeatedly*...and the word *dog* with son"

Starcraft takes more focus than anything I can think of in real life.

Actually I guess its the fact that it takes focus and then more than you could possibly have amounts of multitask.
