There are certain players who are destined to reach stardom. Their evolution to reach this highest level of play is unbelievable: they reach a point in their careers where they dominate all other competition and are unbeatable. And though as much as this is due to their own devotion to the game, this invincibility is seldom enduring. As fast as they reach the pinnacle of glory, they fall into a continuous spiral of disappointment. Losing games, elimination from the top leagues, a struggle to qualify; once gods, they are nothing more but mortals trying to claw their way back to becoming who they used to be.
With four Starleague titles to his name, sAviOr is a monster. He showed the world the true face of Zerg: unstoppable and undefeatable. Using nothing more than his hands, he created hordes of the swarm trampling over opponents. He truly embodied macromanagment play, perfected mutalisk harass, and brought hive play further then anybody else before him. At the peak of his career, he simply dominated.
Can we say the same now? sAviOr is no longer in a slump. He is simply not the player he used to be. He is no longer an unstoppable, undefeatable monster. He continually struggles in Proleague, has failed to show consistent results in individual leagues, and cannot surpass the barrier that is stopping him from reaching his previous level of domination. He may never reach this level again, and we as fans must accept this sad fact.
However, results rarely show us the full picture. While they are disappointing to us as fans, we have to look at the bigger picture. sAviOr is not your regular player. Ignore his game play; ignore his titles. This is a player with style, with a persona, with a quality that draws fans towards him. As Nal_rA is the good, sAviOr is the evil. Always calm and always cool, he is the Maestro.
sAviOr is out of this season’s OSL. And while CJ will surly produce consistent results throughout the rest of the proleague season, it is questionable whether sAviOr will be part of all their successes. This is truly his last chance, his last opportunity. A year ago, this group would have guaranteed him automatic entry into the next round. Now, the future does not look so favourably upon him.
He is now but a mortal; he must face the same challenges and the same hardships as any other player. Only then can he become a god again.
I believe.
