The UC Davis eSports Club is excited to continue the year with our Winter 2013 Welcome LAN!

After our previous success with the Fall LAN, we are ready to do it all again, and once again we will be hosting and StarCraft II and League of Legends tournament. Continuing from the previous tournament, we are increasing the prizes for everyone, both the competitors and the spectators.

For players and spectators alike raffles, contests, and social activities will be ongoing throughout our tournament, so everyone attending can enjoy their time in-game and out!

None of this would have been possible though if it weren’t for the help from TteSPORTS (https://twitter.com/ttesports), Twitch.tv (https://twitter.com/TwitchTV), Riot Gaming (https://twitter.com/LeagueOfLegends), Patriot Memory (https://twitter.com/patriotmemory) and Blizzard (https://twitter.com/StarCraft).

We will also be selling membership cards for our future events. Normally the membership card would cost $15, but if you purchase this with your entry ticket, it will be a combined total of $20! So don’t hesitate, and begin enjoying the benefits of being a UC Davis eSport Member.

If you are interested in participating in any of the tournaments, reserve your player pass ahead of time to be automatically entered into the tournament bracket with priority seeding based on your ladder/team ranking.

Format

StarCraft II Main Tournament

The main tournament will consist of a double elimination 64-player 1v1 bracket. Each round will be a Bo3 until the semi-finals, where rounds will continue as Bo5. Competitors of any rank will be welcome to give the tournament a try, and players advancing to the Ro8 will win tiered money and prizes depending on their final placement.

Consolation Tournament

Because it sucks to be knocked out of a LAN early, we will be hosting an additional 1v1 tournament with a smaller prize pool later in the day. This will be a second chance for many of the competitors who hit an unlucky string of matches and still have more to show. Prizes will include coaching sessions from our schools aces such as ruxin, Tbeezy and Spanishiwa, as well as gaming gear, gift cards and swag.

League of Legends Tournament

The main tournament will consist of a double elimination 8 teams 1v1 bracket. Each round will be a Bo1 until the finals, where rounds will continue as Bo3. Competitors of any rating will be welcome to give the tournament a try, and teams advancing to the Ro4 will win tiered money and prizes.

A New Challenger Approaches

This time, we’re going to be adding another title to our lineup. However, before we make a final decision, we want to know what you would want to see! So if you’re interested in competing in something else, shoot us a message and we’ll see what happens!

Logistics

There will be plenty of room for spectating and relaxing with professional casting from UC Davis' very own Nebulous.

This is a Bring Your Own Computer (B.Y.O.C.) event! If you plan on participating in any of the tournaments please arrange to transport yourself plus one StarCraft II/League of Legends capable computer, laptop or desktop, to the Arc Ballroom before the tournament begins.

Computer setup and practice games will start at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday. Arrive on time to secure a good spot. The tournaments will run until their conclusion, estimated for early evening. Free play will resume after that.

Campus parking is free on the weekends in the South Entry parking structure and lots 1 and 2. [Parking Map]

Here are some other LAN tournament basics you shouldn't forget:
  • Ethernet cable, the longer the better.
  • Power strip with enough outlets for your computer plus one.
  • Headphones. Speakers are not allowed.
  • Extension cord is a plus, circuit breaker outages are a pain.
  • Routers and switches, if you have, are a plus to ensure you get connected.
  • Do not bring alcohol, of any variety.

Unfortunately no, the two tournaments will be running at the same time and as such there would be too much overlap between your matches to let people participate in both tournaments.

No it shouldn't be a problem, just when you come to register at the tournament tell us what your old I.D. was and everything will be ready to go .

Edit: about the map pool, why not just copy GSL or IPL? IPL especially would be easy since all the IPL 6 maps are already published online ^_^

Thanks for the suggestion, we're in the process of finalizing the map pool, and we're leaning towards the IPL 6 maps due to ease of access and general familiarity. We might throw in a single GSL map to spice things up though!

The payout will be around $150 + 2 items of your choice (we'll have another keyboard )

Currently it looks like HotS is winning! We'll see how we can integrate that into our tournament.

If you have signed up in the google docs but have not gotten an email response, is there a way to confirm your spot? Just wondering since I haven't heard anything back.
