Evolution is the largest and most important fighting game tournament of the year and it's coming up in only a week and a half! With over 5000 total entrants across 6 games, two streams, interesting discussion panels, special indie games showcase, and the most exciting atmosphere in competitive video games, it's gonna be one of the best tournaments ever.
Tonight at 8pm Pacific time, my co-commentator James Chen and I will be talking all about it on http://twitch.tv/ultrachentv. We have two shows on Monday nights, First Attack and Level 3 Focus, and both will focus on Evo.
On First Attack, which we try to keep to beginner and intermediate stuff, we'll be talking about attending and watching Evo for the first time, including playing tournament matches, playing casual matches, meeting people, what to do in Vegas when you don't have to play, what's gonna be on stream, how to watch certain things on stream or in person on finals day, etc.
On Lv3 Focus, which tends to cater to intermediate to advanced level players, we'll be talking about the gameplay side of things, including what and who to watch for in the 6 Evo games, which are Super Street Fighter 4: Arcade Edition v 2012, Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3, King of Fighters 13, Mortal Kombat 9, Soul Calibur 5, and Street Fighter x Tekken. We'll go over players and trends to watch, rivalries, expected and potential matchups, and so on.
If you have any questions you'd like us to answer, please don't hesitate to tweet me @UltraDavid or James Chen @jchensor or to send us both an email at ultrachentv@gmail.com
As always, we'll start at 8pm Pacific time and go until we feel we're done. You can watch it on our Twitch channel, which is http://twitch.tv/ultrachentv. We'll also upload the replays later to our YouTube channel at http://youtube.com/ultrachentv.

FGC doesn't associate itself with ESPORTS for many reasons.

They may not run there business side or tournaments like the other games but it doesnt mean the game itself isn't an esports. I swear people forget what the term esports ACTUALLY means.

Hey guys, former BW player and follower of the FGC here. If you're a fan of competitive gaming, regardless of what you call it, please check out EVO2012. EVO had 90k+ viewers last year, we're out to break that record this year. Five thousand competitors from over 30 countries are in it to compete their hardest to win over $100k in prize money.
Give all branches of competitive gaming a chance, maybe you'll understand the "hype" that we're known for.

+ Show Spoiler [my view on the FGC vs eSports thing] +The whole FGC vs esports shit is retarded. IMO esports = competitive gaming, period. Saying the FGC isn't esports to me is kinda like claiming that the CFL isn't football.
I'll try to watch a lot of Evo, though, because it's always interesting.

eSports doesn't mean anything tangible and it's not the same thing as competitive gaming. Competitive gaming has a very straightforward definition.

The EVO stream broke 200K last year IIRC, maybe 250k, not 90k. It does look like its gonna be awesome this year though

I do agree it isn't as straight forward.
I also think esports is a STUPID term made up by a man most people ended up not liking. I hate that the term is still used today. I wish it was forgotten like "cyber athlete" was.

Wow! Is that counting re-streams from Japan and viewers from PSN Home? If so, that's amazing! ustream's viewercount last year only had ~90k counted afaik.

It was always a convoluted term because it was originally invented in an attempt to project an idealized form of competitive gaming that had the same public legitimacy as ordinary sports. It just got worse once things like "YOURE KILLING ESPORTS" started to gain momentum.
