Sometimes when I frequent a massive thread like Random Pics or Small Vods something that bugs me is that the page always displays every single page when 90% of the time all you're interested in is the last page or so.

It might reduce the clutter and streamline the layout of TL if there was an abbreviation of the pages... Something like displaying pages 1-9,...,lastpage-2,lastpage-1,lastpage. Then the "..." can be clicked to display all the pages if necessary.

I know you coders have tons to do, just an idea.

There are only a very few threads this applies to. I doubt it'll get changed given the small audience.

Most LR threads have 100 pages or so, but its understandable that this type of thing isn't very high up on the things of concern. I think sometimes people(myself included) underestimate the time and energy it takes to actually change something on the website... and I'm sure it comes from my ignorance of coding.

I don't think 100 pages or so is an issue. It's only when threads get like this that it's an issue: http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=64016

Is that thread officially the longest threat on TL? Cause it looks like it to me...

But even though something like meeple suggests probably won't be changed, it would be a nice feature to implement. Plus, it's not like it would take ages to code.

Eh, I like the current layout, personally. If there's one thing that always bugged me about most forums, it's navigating to a specific page. Most of the time I can only skip 10 pages at a time or whatever, whereas on TL, I can instantly go to any page.

Anyway, if any thread gets too big, you could always just lock it and make a new one.

I'm not suggesting using the ten page at a time function, but more like spoilering the majority of the pages since you don't use them frequently. Most of the large threads will never be locked/remade since the information they contain wants to be all in one place, so thats not really a solution.

the dota thread cycle goes like this
loop()
{
-a real question related to hon/dota
-spam
-trolling each other mostly about calling people crappy and shit
-image macro spam
-ze
-a question if we are spamming the thread
-jeejee asking for a name change to shinbi
}
repeat

if you take how many ze's there are in that thread and * by the number of pages/number of users who post there you probably get a number greater then all the threads in teamliquid, the goal is now 1000 and to break the form layout

One feature that I've noticed on another forum I frequent that I think would be great here is a 'go to first unread post' button. On the other forum (forums.penny-arcade.com) there's a little page icon next to the thread. Clicking on it brings you to the first post in the thread you haven't read yet.

Maybe that feature exists here and I just haven't figured it out yet, but it would be nice to see here. I like to read new posts in threads, but somtimes its hard to remember where I was or what I haven't read yet... anyway it would be cool if someone added it.

@Cauld
that's a weird feature; i don't think it holds any value at all actually. usually in a large thread i can find where i was pretty quickly, just by clicking a random page and seeing whether I read it or not. if i haven't, i just go back some pages, and if i have, i know roughly how many pages ahead i was.

@semantics
there's usually also a random topic that goes on for a couple of pages like a real thread we had some bd discussion, some headset/mics discussion, some gunz discussion, etc. That megathread is really a lot of threads combined with spam sprinkled in between

or maybe a lot of spam sprinkled with actual discussion in between
take your pick.

Oh hmm I like this change but now I can't randomly go to page 328.

You can actually get there without typing it in... you just need to click on 300, then 310 when it appears, then 328

It takes a couple extra clicks but I think its rare enough that you only want to get to 328 and nothing else that the clutter it saves on the layout is way better.
