One of the big problems that a lot of progamers face is a lack of educational opportunity. These are teenagers who have spent their lives, basically, learning a computer game rather than going to school. I think that one of the ways the foreign community can repay these progamers for their years of making us laugh, cry, and FFFFFUUUU with rage is to help them attend college.
I don't mean a Korean school here. I think that they're probably too far removed from the normal Korean highschooler that they would probably not like being in a normal Korean college. I think that we should help them come to the US or Europe for college.
One test case we can do right now is to take Flash. I think that Flash has a high chance of dropping SC after taking both leagues or being a bonjwa. And I'm sure his parents have thought about his future outside of progaming too.
TL, is this a good idea? Do you think this is even possible? And if it is, how can we go about doing this?
EDIT:
This isn't about helping him go to college, this is about helping him get admitted into a good college--this would also serve to calm a lot of rattled nerves, I feel, within Korean progamers and give the foreign starcraft community a degree of networking and camaderie with the Korean proscene.

Why would someone give up making hundreds of thousands of dollars to study?
|
To participate in the CSL!
|
yah imagine, instead of a team with nony, a team with Flash. it would be ridiculous, flash playing C+ players, hahahahaha
|
|
|
I'm sure flash has plenty of money to go to whatever college he wants to (or whatever college is suitable for him). You do know they make 6 figures right?
|
i think flash should come to uchicago
|
lol flash isn't going to drop SC after just winning double titles or becoming bonjwa and its very possible for flash to lose a game in CSL sure he's statistically the best player ever, but look what happened to nony nony lost to a player with a good strategy, decent management, and whatnot and any pro can lose to some cheese~
|
He will not drop from SC after reaching his peak.
Unless the SC1 scene runs out and Flash is no good at SC2 (which I highly doubt) I believe he will be in the progaming scene for a while to come.
Flash stated in interviews he wanted to be a progamer for a long time, like boxer... and all of the bonjwas continued progaming even after their fall from bonjwa-ness. ('cept oov, what with marrying and coaching and all that).
Another way to look at it is money. SC-> money. money money money. They may be making money right now that could last them for the rest of their lives.
But I'm totally for education for them as well, as its unrealistic that they could stay gaming for the rest of their lives. The question is, would Flash or any progamer want to return to regular life after progaming? It may be stressful and grind-hard, but it is a lifestyle, and I'm sure some gamers prefer it over doing something they may only be mildly interested in.

Right but this isn't about Flash being able to afford going to college, this is about helping him get admitted
|
us help flash go to college. how presumptuous can you get.
this is ridiculous

why would you want to go to college when you have a steady job? an athlete wouldn't quit at their peak to go study either

psh, nony's not totally in shape. and this is flash, his micro is 10x better than nony's.

You want to help get Flash, a guy who makes a 6 digit salary, get into college (and assume his korean parents have absolutely no idea how to get him a college education), while ret doesn't even have a part-time manager or translator?
|
This is possibly the dumbest thread I've ever read XD
I don't think he'll fit in at a Korean school because he plays lots of Starcraft, he'll fit in way better somewhere he doesn't even speak the fucking language right?
|
This is absurd anyway, but Flash is making a ton of money. He doesn't need help.
|
Why assume he'd want to go to college, what prevents him to follow any educational patch after his retirement or military service?
He's a successful progamer, one of the few making the big money. I doubt there is anything better he could do at those stages of his live.
Or he could go to college and get a some 8-5 job and earn the same amount over the next 10 years that he makes in a year now.
Flash is not an endangered animal that needs help, let's help zergbong!
|
Dude...just...what? I can't tell if I'm being trolled or not.
Flash will probably have the equivalent of over $1 million US dollars banked by the time he retires. He can do whatever the fuck he wants, go wherever the fuck he wants. He's a genius and I'm sure he could learn English on a fluent-speaking level extremely quickly if he put his mind to it, too.
Beyond that, he's got a bright future as a progaming coach when he decides to retire.
College is a good idea for most people, but Flash is making more than all but the very top-tier of normal society's workers make right now, and he's only 17 years old. I'm sure he would have no problem attending a college in the U.S. or Europe if he wanted to.

Ehhh, Flash is still way too young to be considering something like this.
