Gerrard singlehandedly won the group for England ... as the only player for England playing at a worldclass level he should get one of the spots also only Silva making it from the Spanish squad ... i hate them as much as you but u gotta give Xavi and Iniesta spots ... surprised no one called you out on that | ||

Ribery, Ibrahimovic, Zhirkov(?), Arshavin, Snejder, Persie... agree with your pick of hummels. buffon probably too, although i'm not sure he was really tested in the group stage. Silva after what i've seen in the last spain game. Didn't really notice him before though. Khedira? maybe. I find he's always very hard to tell without looking at statistics. He's usually very efficient, makes few/small mistakes and doesn't catch anybodies eye. Unless he gets a chance to score - then he's probably even more harmless than Boateng, lol. Can't help but wonder how Iniesta didn't make your list. If anything, he's even better than at the world cup. His passing is akin to watching professional dart players throw, and his dribbling is getting very close to that of Messi in style and quality. | ||

Gebre Selassie--Terry--Ramos--Lahm/A.Cole ----------DeRossi-------Pirlo--------Silva ---------Iniesta------Gomez-----Ronaldo The Czech Republic RB - Gebre Selassie, is a fantastic new player i have come to enjoy to watch, he hasnt put a foot wrong in this tournament to my knowledge and has ran up and down the right hand side with ease. Defo a guy to watch out for. Goalkeeper's was hard to choose one between Neuer and Buffon, both have conceded 2 goals and both have looked comfertable when they were needed. LBs could be toss up between A.Cole and Lahm, think it hard to keep either one out of the side. 3 midfielder players pick themselves, Silva looks great everytime he gets the ball as of late, Pirlo is the reason the Italians score imo, and DeRossi is having a blinder in his defensive role so far this tournament Front 3 picks itself as well, Ronaldo looking great again is easily the best player in the tournament (on his day), Iniesta makes spain tick, so its hard not to even mention his name. Gomez, just for his ability to score goals from anywhere, whether its a hard shot from 20-30 yards or a header from out muscling a CB, super pick for the ST role. | ||

I don't recall Spain needing to do much at the back and whenever it came down to the defense, things looked very shaky. I'd rather pick Hummels over him. I guess so, i just remember him sweeping up really well in game vs croatia, and vs Italy he did some good tackles. Hummels all i can remember is him vs Netherlands where he watched VanPersie get the ball from a 40yard over the top simple pass. Just stared at it in the air and i just thought well, that was bad defending. Plus Netherlands did score comfertably in that game and well so did Denmark from 2 headers inside the box, pretty poor marking was to blame as well. But yeah that RB is insanely good. | ||

Plus Netherlands did score comfertably in that game and well so did Denmark from 2 headers inside the box, pretty poor marking was to blame as well. But yeah that RB is insanely good. Hummels is statistically the best defender so far - data from Opta: 88% challenges won (only Pepe ahead), 13 passes intercepted (head to head with Terry, only Agger ahead), 16 won aerial challenges (only Ignashewitsch and Mexes ahead), no foul in 270 minutes of playing. Had that risky moment against Portugal when his pass led to Neuer being fouled pretty brutally and didn't look to good against that pass to van Persie, but then, neither did the rest of the defense. Furthermore, one of the few central defenders to show offensive activity, sometimes trying to supply ideas to otherwise static german attempts. I'd take him into my top XI over Ramos any day, at least he didn't commit a should-have-been-penalty foul. I agree with most of the rest of your team - keepers are hard to call, as this tournament had lots of shots, but few of them on goal. Might consider Sifakis, even if he didn't play too much. Left defender is another position, Lahm performed far beneath his possibilities, and Cole didn't impress either, especially against Ukraine. Would probably pick Jordi Alba, even though the spanish defense hasn't been really tested yet. Last position I'd change would be Iniesta - sure, he's an outstanding player, but at a tournament where only results count, he's not delivered enough to warrant this position. I'd take Gerrard over him - without Gerrard, England would already by flying home. ----------------------------------Sifakis-------------------------------- Gebre-Selassie ---- Hummels ---- Agger ---- Jordi Alba ----------------------------------De Rossi----------------------------- ----------Gerrard---------------Pirlo--------------Silva------------- -------------------Gomez---------------Ronaldo-------------------- Bench: Hart, Terry, Dzagoev, Mandzukic, Ibrahimovic, Khedira | ||

First, in net: Casillas. Buffon is always solid and one of the best but I dont think he has made a difference for Italy so far. Although Spain dominates, often they relax too much and let themselves open for counters and Casillas has made more than a few key saves. Pletikosa and Hart are close but Casillas takes the spot. RB: Ukrain RB was the one who impressed me the most so far. Does not compromise defensively and tries to advance often. CB: Humels was a rock against Portugal and was also solid in the other two games, easy pick I think. CB: Pepe not only for his goal but for his intensity has been a key part of the Portuguese defense. LB: Clichy because I feel that changing Evra for him helped France get a little bit better. Thoughest position for me to judge...Zhirkov had a nice showing, Alba had some part in Spain attacking moves but didn't seem in synch some times, maybe with time he will be the pick. Others had some good showings but I dont find a clear winner for LB. CM: Pirlo, no doubt, key man for Italy and playing well so far. CM: Modric had a good showing and although this was a tough call I think he deserves a spot in the midfield. Gerrard, Xavi, the Italian MF that the name escapes me right now lol and a few other also had good performances and deserved a spot in the midfield but only two can play ^^. RW: Dzagoev good showings for Russia and a decent supply of goals. LW: Iniesta no comments needed I believe, one of the best if not the best of the tournament so far. ST: Mandzukic hard working but not lacking in class, another bright spot for a good team. ST: Ibrahimovic although Sweden is out, he tried his best and produced even when the rest of his team seem everywhere else but there. (it would have been gomez due to his decisve goals if the last sweden game didn't ended like it did) | ||

Gerrard isn't world class anymore. | ||

----------------------------------Neuer-------------------------------- Lahm ---- Hummels ---- De Rossi ---- Chiellini -----Dzagoev------Ozil-----------Xavi--------------Iniesta------------- -------------------Ibrahimović---------------Ronaldo-------------------- Iniesta and Xavi first two you put in the team since there is no Messi. Then Ibrahimovic and Ronaldo. This is beyond question for me. Gomez, Mandzukic, sure nice players. But not on the level of these two. Ozil is the best player from the German squad by far. Dzagoev big surprise talent of thie Euro. So that's it for midfield. Defense is a lot harder. I really like Pique. Tall guy that can play well, which you see rarely in modern football. I can't field a guy like Pepe ever. But Pique has a really bad season so far. I don't watch much German and Italian games, but these guys seem the next best thing to an in form Pique. Maybe I am wrong about Hummels. But De Rossi is certainly up there. Then another defender from Italy as I rate their defense highly so Chielline left back. He also was part of the very succesful Juventus squad. Gebre-Selassie shouldn't really be in this team so I remembered Lahm is actually a right back originally. This Selassie hasn't performed anywhere near enough to be in such a team. But he really made a name for himself so far. I believe Neuer is the best GK. I'd pick him over Buffon partly because of age. I feel bad leaving out Gerrard as he is such a big player. He carried Liverpool alone for so many years and how he finally is carrying England. But no space for him, sadly. This is obv not a balanced team but this is a team of names. Zlatan and Rolando are going to clash hugely anyway. | ||
