Show Them What You're Made Of
Today we're happy to announce the next step in our efforts to showcase the great work that our editors are doing. The combined effort of everyone involved has lead to a wiki many times larger than what any of us imagined even five years ago. Since its inception in 2007 —just over 10 years ago— Liquipedia has had 53,300 editors who have done 2,800,000 edits (3,400,000 if we count bot edits) for over 220,000 articles.
In 2011, we launched the Liquipedia Coins. This was our way of measuring how awesome a Liquipedia contributor was. Then in 2016, we updated the system, adding the coveted diamond tier. However, the downside to the coins is that they’re rather abstract and not very easy to set as a goal. As a result, we are now introducing the achievement system. The intent is to provide contributors with a sense of pride and accomplishment for unlocking different achievements. We created nine different achievement categories with four tiers for each, spanning from newb to fanatical.
The achievement categories are as follows:
- Editing anything on the wiki.
- Editing team pages.
- Editing player pages.
- Editing tournament pages.
- Editing template pages.
- Editing the transfer page.
- Creating new pages.
- Creating new templates.
- Reviving an old page
Once you have achievements you will be notified but you can also see them on your user page. And if you have a really long list of them you can showcase a handful of them at the top of the list.
Achievements are tied to a specific wiki. So achievements gained on one do not transfer over to a different one, nor does the system look at all your edits across wikis to determine when you have gained a new achievement.
We would really like to thank PoP and his co-workers at Pleesher who were the initiators of this effort and who with a lot of time and effort made it possible. They tailor-made this achievement system for us. We would also like to extend a special thanks to shiroiusagi for designing the achievement images. And finally, we’d like to thank all the staff and contributors who tested the system very thoroughly and gave their time, feedback and comments on it.
Speaking of which, please do not hesitate to let us know, through the feedback forum, if you find any bug. This is all pretty fresh, hence some things might be a little imperfect for a while; we'll make sure to fix them as promptly as possible.
