Blizzard announced that the Chinese StarCraft II servers are set to re-open on October 28th, with various tournaments and events to be held in the following weeks.
The Chinese SC2 servers had closed in January of 2023, following a breakdown in relations between Blizzard and long-time Chinese publishing partner Netease. Blizzard and Netease resumed their partnership in April of 2024, but StarCraft II service had not been promptly restored (in contrast to other Blizzard titles).
An all-star style StarCraft II event has been announced for November 29-30, to be held at Hangzhou Esports Center. During the announcement event, Chinese scene organizers SCBOY named players such as Serral, Reynor, Clem, herO, Maru, Classic, Cure, and Solar among the potential invitees, as well as 'legend' players such as iA, sOs, MMA, Scarlett, Oliveira, and INnoVation.
Furthermore, the Kung Fu Cup and other community events were announced to return.
A memorabilia/merchandise collaboration with China Post, the national postal service of China, was also announced.

I would assume same city, different venue, since the 2018 Hangzhou event was in a smaller auditorium setup, and the Hangzhou Esports Center is a pretty big, dedicated arena.

Only fitting if Time/Oliveira coming out of retirement.

Alive game! Very exciting to see.

The offline all star event is announced to invite Serral, Clem, Reynor, Maru, Classic, hero, Cure and Solar. There also invite another group of retired legendary players, including innovation, sOs, MMA, Scarlett, Oliveira, and former Chinese champion IA. The full invited list and exact format are not announced yet.

https://www.bilibili.com/video/BV14FW8zMEDC Only vocal announcement so far. Through most foreigners may not understand Chinese, you may recognize the invited player's names from 17:20 to 18:30 of the video.

Rex (a Taiwanese zerg/caster) mentioned something like Olivera has been "secretly practicing" on ladder recently.

I think the more recently active players like scarlett and oliveira are probably the favorite for that group, and sOs didn't he come out of retirement? so he should be in good shape too but personally I would not count out innovation who is incredibly naturally gifted imo.

TIL sOs is retired again
Otherwise, great news!

This is great news! China seems to be allowing a bit of a rise in esports activity once again

He only recently joined StreamerZone team and has played a tournament match as recent as 13 days ago. I think he just doesn't grind many open cups. I know the tournament says retired players group but I think it would be like saying that for parting, and he very well might be invited to this tournament as well. He is technically out of retirement too but skill might be lacking compared to top pros today so they just put him there idk.

Yeah i checked for this information too and it seems to be inaccurate. He should still be listed as 'active'. Many Korean pros don't officially announce their retirements though, so I get why some organizers might just assume, but like you said - sOs has been competing far too recently for that to be true.

Oh, sorry my bad. The Chinese organizers used the word "legendary", not "retired".
|
That's great news, particularly for the Chinese scene. Could Microsoft be cooking something?

Very unlikely this is true. sOs is announced to be playing at SC4ALL: StarCraft II in Philadelphia in less than 10 days.
Also there is no announcement from his team either, which I would expect considering sOs's legendary status.

He should be. All he has to do is practice enough to be the best to represent Asia for EWC. He will be guaranteed easy 10k+

Neat! Who knows how long this gig will last so I'm glad that the old pros get to square of for a (hopefully) big audience.
While we are talking about sOs, according to the wiki he's 32 now and took quite a long break. Did he do his military service in that time?
