The Code S Season 2 qualifiers were held on June 22nd, turning over four spots from season one.
Astrea and SpeCial were the notable non-Korean players to qualify, while TY earned his first Code S appearance after concluding his military service (having failed to make the qualifier cutoff in season one).
Code S Season 2 will be held from July 4th to July 27th. The starting groups for the RO16 will be announced at a later date. While Season 1 was played largely online, the entirety of Season 2 will be played live from the FreecUP studio.

DRG out? Wow. Otherwise, going by the out/in list. no big surprises to me.

Fun to see TY, but I will be missing soO, DRG, and Stats

Wow surprised by Stats, Innovation, DRG not making it, dang... but at least TY made it! Also grats to Astrea and Special, that'll be good for viewership, as well as having another Protoss!
Grats to Nightmare making it again... surprised considering his performance the last couple years of barely ever getting into GSL.

Really feels that 16 is a little too thin
Maybe in a year’s time that cutoff may be required but it feels that there’s still enough quality players of comparative competitive quality who we’ll miss seeing with the format changes
24 would give space for the usual suspects, the few foreigners who are still giving the Korea thing a shot, and a couple remaining for some new blood to get established

I agree that with the current field (the established scene + returnees + foreigners) 16 feels a bit low.

Yeah 20 would be much better than 16 even, if we're going to not do the Ro10 RR thing and thus have less days in the studio, then maybe we can go back up to Ro20 at least, and just have 1 more group or something?

Seriously impressive stuff from Special and Astrea to qualify for this round, the qualifiers are extremely competitive now.
Sad to see DRG out. but he's been having a bit of a mixed run lately. He basically got replaced by Ragnarok who's in a very similar spot.
Hard to see how the usual favorites aren't still favorites again this season though. Maru obviously followed by Dark, Gumiho, Solar, Bunny, Byun and Cure.
Maybe herO has some tricks up his sleeves for us this season? How is TY going to look coming back, and will Classic be able to show anything better than his most recent form against Serral in PvZ?
All questions that remain to be seen.

Looking at the bracket, I really missed Rogue and Trap. When do they come back?

creator will win
Remember when FXO spear randomly requalified for gsl after like 8 years? and then immediately disappeared again? I hope we get another moment like that sometime

Some players said they would not come back to SC2 after military, but I guess they have nothing else to do and might just try it. Inno was saying he retired for good before leaving for military, yet he was in S1 of GSL this year, but I guess how committed they are will depend on the result.

Ooh they were on a proteam before? Thought it was just a random GM player, i don't know if Tastosis mentioned anything about them having a progamer history before.
They seemed shaky but the way they played was surprisingly effective and "spear"y too, like doing constant counterattacks vs Special and winning out. Would be down to see them again!
Also yes i hope Creator will do better this season, but dang there is still so many Terrans, i feel he really needs to clean up his PvT.

Would love to see Astrea and/or Special proceed past round1 on this go )

Meant more in the sense of some random pro from 2012 suddenly reappearing in GSL this year but I'd happily watch a spear runback too!

Oh, yeah that would be epic!

It's awesome to see Astrea and SpeCial, the non-Korean players, securing their spots.

Can't wait to see these players bring their A-game. It's gonna be one hell of a showdown!

The scene is small enough now that +/- 8 players makes an enormous difference to the feel of the tournament compared to the past. It's the diff between me thinking "eh this RO24 group is pretty dull" and "WTF how did this player not make the RO16." That means the # of "Code S caliber" players is actually right in the 16-24 range. I think last year's RO20 hit a sweet spot given the expected # of players in Korea (obviously the in/out of foreigners complicated things).

Yeah that was cool!! He did pretty well, at the time i didn't know he was from FXO, i just assumed he was a random GM player who got a bit lucky and qualified
