ESL also provided on an update on the transition back to offline events for Season Finals events. ESL is evaluating having players on-site starting with the Fall Season finals in September, pending changes in travel regulations for players. Furthermore, ESL reiterated their interest in resuming live events with fans at a future DreamHack festival or IEM Katowice.

DreamHack SC2 Masters: Summer was the first season in that roadmap by being able to bring our commentators safely back to join us in our studios in Stockholm. Having them together helps bring an energy that we can only get when people are face to face. We aim for this to be our new baseline standard as we head further into the remaining Fall & Winter seasons.

The next step will be bringing players back, which we’ve been continuously evaluating for months and are now specifically reviewing DreamHack SC2 Masters: Fall with our Season Finals planned for September.

This will depend on the global travel situation and would only happen if we are able to provide a safe and secure experience for all through by abiding to all local and global government regulations for all six of our regions, including South Korea. This would be the first time since IEM Katowice 2020 where we would have a global in-person competition and we’re excited to get to this point, but we need to do this in the right way, and we don’t want to leave any regions out.

Beyond that, and deeper within our planning, we are evaluating our return to a live event experience through making a return at IEM Katowice or a DreamHack Festival. We’re hopeful that we are on the road back to normality where we want to meet up together as a StarCraft community once again.

Not much info in that OP

The big news is probably that ESL are looking into having the DHM Fall Season Finals played offline (without audience):

Can't say I care about any Crypto Exchanges but I certainly care about more money for SC2.

I'm unsure exactly what a cripto company advertises, but I'll take it.

On the other hand, offline competition is getting me hype!

Nice. I have coinbase installed and didn't use it. But I've been thinking about crypto lately. Not because I believe in it as a concept, but I believe in it as a concept to get money you shouldn't have. I do think the crypto market will be on the rise the next few years.

It's good sc2 is getting more sponsors!

That would be great, for once at least I could stop being salty due to "unfair" loses due different match conditions, being 100% sure the best won.

This is awesome!
It's sad, though I guess mostly irrelevant for the scene as a whole, but the Australians likely won't be able to attend even if they win the regional. Our border has been locked down very hard and probably will be until well into next year.
There's no sense crying over every mistake. You just keep trying till you run out of cake.

Starcraft getting a crypto sponsorship leaves a foul taste in my mouth, but more money is more money I guess. Looking forwards to offline tournaments again.

Coinbase is a Crypto Broker , not a Crypto Currency.

They are a bit more expensive and you cant trade as much different Crypto Currencys than a smaler
Competitor called Voyager Digital but they are much bigger and well known.

Congrats ESL
Congrats Coinbase

The main reason people hold crypto currently, is because they're hoping someone else will want to hold it later on. It's not my cup of tea.

Imagine the amount of money invested in crypto (coinmarketcap says it's currently 1,200,000,000,000 dollar) being invested in 3rd world growth markets instead, and alternative energy sources? Investors would still make profit (although, granted, less profit). But in return a whole continent would be boosted forward, and our eco footprint be reduced significantly. Yet we collectively decide to go for the extra profit instead :x

/rant

I do believe in ledgers and blockchain btw, for real world solutions like escrow and transport and such.

All good but when they will allow audience to come? I have tickets for Katowice from 2019 stil not used and they are 'working on taking players in fall'? Its completely nonsense. Audience should be available (for vaccinated people).

Though I would like to see more sponsors and more money for sc2, I strongly opposite any crypto currency, for it does not create any value at all but a huge waste of resource and money. The only benefit is that it allow criminals to launder money that can evade supervision of regulatory authorities.

Not sure about how different this is but Australian tennis players were able to travel to Wimbledon, so it seems to be posible to cross the border with a good enough reason.

Care to enlighten us then?

The other plus side of going offline is it'll force a schedule that doesn't conflict with GSL (unless Dreamhack wants to be missing half the players).
