2020-21 ESL Pro Tour: Open Cups

Week two of the ESL Open Cups saw us welcome our first back-to-back winners. (Wiki)Solar was triumphant for the second straight week on the Korean server, narrowly edging out surprise finalist Astrea 3-2 in the deciding match. In the European server cup, (Wiki)HeroMarine was also victorious for the second straight week, defeating Harstem 3-1 in the finals.

A scheduling conflict with AfreecaTV's BJ Destruction Match prevented online powerhouse (Wiki)Cure from participating on the Korean server, but he made up for it soon after by winning his first ESL Open Cup on the American server (3-1 vs Bly).

ESL Open Cup winners earn $100 in prize money and 10 ESL Pro Tour points. Players who finish second earn 5 ESL Pro Tour points. Week #3 of ESL Open Cups is set to take place on January 26th.

Cure's schedule was really packed between this, carrying his team in the BJ Destruction Match and winning OSC. Scheduling conflicts are the only thing holding him back.

Astrea almost taking the KR Cup over Solar is pretty awesome to see - also been loving seeing more lesser-known KR players in the cups such as Spear, Percival, Chance and ya boy Zoun.
I used to play random, but for you I play very specifically.

I'm disappointed Polt hasn't made it into top 16 for Open Week #2.

Can't wait to see Cure in some serious offline tournament
Also Astrea almost winning KR server - nice!
And what's going on with ShowTime recently?

Though always a good online player, he's taken his non-major tournament to another level this off season. To find out whether he's "real" or not, I think we can only wait until IEM Katowice...

He made it to finals of first cup so he’s doing fine. A PvP loss to a good player ain’t that worrisome imo

He always has been very strong in online tournament but since last year he became so strong. Just check out his aligulac. He is almost as strong as Serral in term of point with his online result winning a lot of Olimoleague and others online cup.

Well, you can't have Maru carrying Terran forever. Passing of the baton.

Cure is so sick right now.

Hopefully he's not the cure to that sickness, er nevermind there was a joke there somewhere but I totally botched it.

Baton ain't getting passed in EPL Weekly. Cure was outdone by Maru and TY in WESG and IEM qualifiers. The first real test will be IEM (unless GSL starts up first).

Nice to see Big Gabe dominating EU the last few weeks.

I wonder what is happening to Serral. Seems like he is not playing ladder at all and so far only participated in the IEM qualifiers this year where he seemed to struggle a bit. Just hope he is not burning out.

Serral seems to take his offseason vacation time seriously. Last year he didn't play a tournament game for a month and a half.

He was never really the type to go out of his way to play in tournament either, especially online one.

Cure's recent uprising is really impressive. Not only for some of his opponents defeated, but also by sheer volume of games in such short time span.

54 matches already this year with 83.33% win rate in games 105-31, and during last 10 days:

Cure is 68–16 (80.95%) in games and 31–5 (86.11%) in matches.

That's incredibly great no matter how we look at it, as half of his competition within the time frame has been against the world's top players.

I gues it s the other way around. He struggled, because the lack of recent Training. He s allways been a Person, Who knew how to look After himselve and how to not burn out. He s mighty fine and will hit hard at kato in full Power. He probably expected to get tough EU qualifier quote uncontested especially without Reynor, so didn t put on his 100% practise Regime just then.
