Just saw this beautiful announcement in the Battle.net launcher.
Source: https://starcraft2.com/en-us/news/23181745?blzcmp=app
When Geoff “iNcontroL” Robinson passed away earlier this year, the StarCraft community lost someone incredibly special. Geoff was a competitor with unparalleled work ethic. He was ambitious and motivated, always looking for opportunities to learn and improve himself. But he was also the kind of one-in-a-million human being who genuinely cared about every single person he met—no matter who they were, or how unlikely it was that he would see them again.
Few people have had more of an impact on StarCraft than Geoff. As a player, he found success as early as 2007, when he won the national WCG Championship, catapulting him into a long and storied competitive career. He hosted podcasts like State of the Game and, more recently, The Pylon Show, which he co-founded. He shoutcasted major tournaments, demonstrating deep game knowledge, passion, and a preternatural ability to find the hilarity in any situation. In StarCraft, no matter where you looked, you found Geoff, and the community was better for it.
Here at Blizzard, there are a lot of Geoff “iNcontroL” Robinson fans. (Understatement.) The StarCraft team wanted to do something permanent to commemorate him in-game. Beginning on October 22, 2019, Geoff’s Announcer Pack, Portrait, and some additional items we’re creating in his honor—will be granted to every player on log-in, for free, forever.
It’s a small gesture, and it can’t come close to capturing how much he meant to us, but we hope it will show some fraction of how we feel.
We’d like to believe that StarCraft was important to Geoff. But what we know, beyond any doubt, is that Geoff was important to StarCraft.

sounds good, just before they announce that this is the last wcs.

Of course I already bought the announcer pack long time ago, but I am glad that Blizzard now gives it away.
It is still hard for me to watch any video stuff showing Incontrol. THAT man is gone now.

I'm not ready for this... hearing his voice in my games will make me sad.

Thanks, Blizzard. and eternally, thank you Geoff <3

Ok, but why not TotalBiscuit as well? I don't understand explanation.

Just a daily reminder it was the same company that refused to hire Geoff for blizzcon and gsl vs the world some years for his "personality".
Also another reminder, blizzard has been back bending to china since the zotac cup days, never releasing the vods for the tournament in which Geoff was a treasure to have.
Rip Geoff.

Really good move. Geoff was huge part of Starcraft and deserves it! Someone said hearing his voice will make him sad but personally will make me happy and always think he's still with us.

Beautiful. We miss you Geoff.

Great thing to do for the community by blizzard SC. Really happy they have some great people working there who felt the need to push for this.

Honestly I don't remember there's a portrait for INcontrol in game.Which portrait?

Rip Geoff. You realize a company can have respect and even admire what someone has done for the community while at the same time acknowledging that they may not be a good fit for their brand. Also, are you implying the reason zotac cup vods werent released is to appease to China? Are we full on conspiracy now?

Really?

This is absolutely great. I've watched and followed Geoff for so long, sometimes I really can't believe he died.
Thanks Blizz for this token of respect to an absolute pillar of the community. He is indeed sorely missed.

Great stuff Blizzard, this is amazing. Hats off to Geoff

Just seeing this makes me imagine what his thoughts what have been for Blizzard now.

they waited long... likely, everybody who wanted this pack already paid for it.

Really nice gesture Blizzard, I don't think I will ever exchange my TB voice pack but I very much appreciate this. It makes you realize Blizzard is 95% living breathing people that wants to make good games for their fans and 5% of shitbags at the top ruining it, both for their employees and their fans.

I don't think that's the reason.

Strange timing on this... but nevertheless appreciated! Geoff was such a joy to watch and listen to.

If you did pay for the bundle before it was free at least it went towards something he would have wanted.

Very very classy. Big fan of the move.

Rip Geoff. Only because Geoff appreciated a good forum clapback...
Just a fair warning that elluel is the same species as Adolf Hitler, the guy who killed and tortured millions of innocent people. Take anything he says with a huge grain of salt.
RIP Geoff <3
Thanks Blizz for this memorial.

First I’m hearing of a link to recent controversies and Zotac VoDs not being released though.

I think this is a great move to commemorate one of the most beloved, respected, and obsessed StarCraft players of all time

Still feels like a bad twitch joke as every time people spam RIP there for every streamer.
It took me a while to realise that it is true.
He always felt that type of character on a show that if it got removed the audience would riot, shame we can't protest like that on his case :/

TB had a family and a child; it needed (needs) to be monetized to support them. I'm not trying to be callous but Geoff did not have any children and was separated from his wife. I think the fraction of kickbacks supersedes what is meant by this gesture.
You also don't know if Blizzard/Activision made a payout via NDA to make this kind of move. I'm sure there was no money on their side to be made by it - if anything his "estate" received money.
I agree with their decision to immortalize him in the game. Also TB, while a great shoutcaster, did not devote as much time to this game as Geoff did. Geoff was a progamer since 07 and devoted much of his life to the game. I'm not going to get into pissing matches but you can look up the difference.

TB's family was in need of financial support.
