For months, we’ve been receiving tweets and messages from players asking when this announcement was coming. Well here it is! O’Gaming is proud to partner with Blizzard once again to bring you the 6th edition of Nation Wars™: Nation Wars 2019!
Nation Wars is the competition that gives players the opportunity to fight for something greater than themselves. It’s a truly unique format that we are excited to renew this year thanks to Blizzard! Mark your calendars:
Registration Phase: July 14th -> July 28th Voting Phase: August 4th -> August 18th Qualifying Matches: September 30th & October 1st RO24: October 3rd -> October 6th & October 10th -> October 13th RO16: November 12th -> November 17th RO8: November 30th & December 1st Playoffs: December 8th
Players ranked Grand Master during the years 2018 and 2019 on European, North American and Asian StarCraft II servers can register for the opportunity to represent their nation. Any nation with at least three players successfully registered is automatically guaranteed to participate.
Then you, the community, vote for your players. The three players that end the voting phase with the most votes are eligible to play for their nation. If more that three players are registered for a nation, the fourth-ranked player is considered the substitute player.
A first round of qualifying matches is played to produce 24 nations to compete in the tournament. The top 16 nations will share a $40,000 prize pool, with 40% going to the winning nation.
Playoffs will be held offline with the top four nations to face-off in the brand-new O’Gaming studio, located near Paris, on December 08th.
Just like previous editions, O’Gaming will welcome and host an English casting crew yet to be announced, as the official stream of Nation Wars 2019 on https://twitch.tv/ogaminginter.
It’s a tradition for Nation Wars to be cast in many different languages by community streams. This year won’t be any different - community casters are welcome to contact Aeromi to get authorization to broadcast the competition on their channel: : aeromi@ogaming.tv / Aeromi#6228 on Discord.
Previous editions of Nation Wars have been won by Norway (twice), France and South Korea (twice). O’Gaming and Blizzard Entertainment are very excited to see which Nation will emerge victorious in Nation Wars 2019. See you on July 14th for the Registration Phase!
Yay, I'm hyped. Still not keen on you guys using the same format though (same complaints as for previous editions - too much focus on star players instead of team effort with this 3 player all kill thing, kind of destroys the buzz for me... and yeah, still salty about us losing to Serral).

Not much of a Nation War if half the teams are 1 player and 3 bench warmers

-Change the player selection, popular vote doesn't always produce the most competitive matches, incorporate qualifiers in some form.
-Format, all kill just emphasizes star players, have 2v2s/archon, give the teams more strategic power (proleague) format.
Agreed for the format but asking for qualifier seems nothing more than entilted spectators who don't realize how it is hard to organize qualifiers per country.

I know. I mean if they want to make it a crowdfunding goal, I'll put my money in.

Except that this is not what is happening. Nations like Italy and Finland make it super deep in the tournament despite having only a single top tier player. Italy made it to the playoffs with their only wins coming from Raynor, none of their other players won a single map. Finland made it to the semifinals with only 1 map win coming from a player other than Serral. And the same can be said for dozens of other instances where a nation advanced to the playoffs on the back of a single player. Let's be real here: It's going to be Team Serral instead of Team Finland, it's going to be Team Raynor instead of Team Italy, and so forth. Not much of a Nation Wars if you ask me. All-Kill format will be a hard nope for me, which is unfortunate. It's not a good format to determine which is the better team. All it does is determine which team has the better star player.
Public voting has always been a source of much fun and drama in the past, whether it was the joke-voting* for Avilo in NW5 or Kelazhur leveraging non-SC2 influencers in Brazil for GSL vs. The World. I'm curious to see how it plays out this time around...

PartinG is playing at a very decent level again this year, so it wouldn't really be a bad choiche.
I would say Inno(Nation Wars is his homefield as any teamleague competition), soO/Solar/Impact and Zest/herO would be the fittest for this competition.
Hopefully us in America will vote for the strongest team, not the "strongest meme". I'd like to see us compete & put on a good show & not just be a side show. Easier said than done i guess.
Still NW's is always a fun & can't miss event. Gonna be sick!

Hopefully US isn't a complete memefest again this year and a strong lineup is put in place. The US can field fairly good players, but voters like to troll, so when you vote for players, PLEASE vote for players who actually will compete, such as Neeb, Astrea, Future, Jonsnow, mcanning, puCK, starkiller, Vindicta, and Rob.

Maybe this is just a trick to make SC2 mainstream in Europe, given the recent surge of nationalism? I'll try to join the next rally of our newly parliamentary "no-we-aren't-actual-nazis-trust-us" party with an O'gaming banner and see what I can get done?

Registration for NW2019 is now officially open for 2 weeks! If you ranked GM on EU, NA or KR servers in 2018 and/or 2019, sign up now for a chance to represent your Nation:
Players need to be manually validated before they can be accepted as eligible. This count will be updated each time a new player will be manually validated

Having balance whining during a tournament as a reason to disqualify a player would be utterly stupid. This idea that everyone needs to stay silent, politically correct and as faceless as possible needs to finally die.

I feel like there's a step or 2 between staying "silent. politically correct and as faceless as possible" and typing "protoss is op" in all-chat in the middle of a game.

I feel like TL's moderation has conditioned everyone here to think that balance whining is the worst sin possible.
Racist slurs? Homophobia? Threats? Bullying? Yeah, let's ban people for that. The odd "protoss op" chant should be perfectly acceptable.

It would be acceptable if Protoss were op, actually. Balance whining isn't necessarily bad, there are times when things go horribly wrong; constantly, mindlessly whining is extremely annoying.
Banning players from tournaments because they balance whined would be a questionable decision.

Says the guy with 45k posts on said board
Is my activity a sign of being continously socially engineered? Ok.
Look, of course it's not about balance whine. Hell it doesn't even have to be about respect. And it's certainly not about everyone having to be a nice little clone sitting down and shutting up. It's about having a basic requirement that the participants take the tournament seriously. Obviously not needed for 99% of the players, but then you have that one guy who just has to be a special snowflake at any cost and pulls a whole bunch of people down with him.
Freedom of speech freedom of expressing yourself u wot m8 can't even take a teeny little insult lulw bla bla bla. Ok fine, but is it really all that cool when you have one guy put there 100% by trolls, totally ruining the chances of an entire country?
Of course with Avilo it begins with balance whine and ends literally in the court house for serious irl harassment so I guess nobody seriously doubts whether he's unfit for tournament participation. But then its hard to ban someone for outside factors. So, just make basic respect in in-game chat a requirement as in any big tournament, and problem solved. Not 1 other participant will have any problem with that. And it's hardly going to turn humanity into a race of faceless puppets. People can still have at each other in the post-game interviews, on Twitter, forums etc., to their heart's extent.
And if there's a better solution then I'm all for it. As long as they prevent a whole team getting dragged down by one person's narcissistic personality disorder, I'm fine with whatever.
Yeah, so you proposed an oddly specific rule in order to get rid of a specific player, that is so mature and fair! You have it completely backwards - banning a guy for IRL harrasing people makes complete sense and banning for "outside factors" is no harder than banning for ingame chat. This is not a court of law, the organisers can set the rules in whatever way they want, hell if they want, they can just say "no avilo" and the guy has absolutely no recourse against that.
I hope Poseidon plays and does the team interviews again. That guy is hilarious. I laughed so hard each time when that open pipe protruding from the wall in his room became visible again.

There's the issue that while soO can beat almost anyone in ZvZ he's bad in everything else while Dark can beat any foreigner except Serral(and maybe even him now), so for me soO is optional, Dark is mandatory.
Hmm the color rule might be weird for example for Italy because in sports we usually use our traditional light blue ("gli azzurri"), that's not on the flag :D
Serral changing rules of tournaments just by existing XD
He hasn't even signed up yet
Well it's not just Serral. Italy is also just the Reynor show. When France won NationWars it was a MarineLorD solo carry. People have been complaining about pure all-kill with revive for years simply because a country with more depth could lose to a country that just fields their best player first.
Always interested to see organizers experiment with uncommon/not-immediately-intuitive formats that make for better competition. At least in SC2's case, it seems like having complicated formats doesn't really matter as long as it can exciting games or games between high-profile players on a regular basis.
Probably going to go with Serral, and then Zhugeliang and Fuzer based on the more recent results. Would certainly be a team with enough unique entertainers.

I feel like there's this kind of brotherhood of cannon rush specialists and they have a small fanbase that helps them win in polls like this where (mostly) unknown players are up against unknown players.
Man, South Korea's team looks weak. Two players who couldn't make it out of the ro32 and one player who is known for a major difference in online and offline form.

Innovation is simply too good in team competitions and I am surprised soO got in(he's out of shape but evidently too popular); Stats is on fire and I'm sure Korea won't have problems getting to the offline stage.
I mean, I don't cannon but I think it's a really interesting way to approach the game. You can look at people like printf and see that it's a legitimate way to play if it's not blind countered, which has been expanded on by people like PartinG actually getting good at cannoning and doing it as a mixup.
At the very least it's entertaining, and if you're standing by a vote system in the first place, I don't see anything wrong with cannoners getting to shine a bit.
Do you mean the crazy soO fandom? I was more impressed by Fantasy at GSL at the World, especially how he owned Reynor. If he keeps improving I'm fairly sure he'd be stronger (and more fun, since soO doesn't like to play late game) at Nation Wars.

Inno, Stats and soO is anything but weak.
Yeah, we just saw how good they are. soO lost to TIME and didn't get to RO16 of Code S. oh, sorry, he did. He was casting the group seleciton
Innovation is so good he ended up LAST in his Code S RO32 group.
Stats is good as long as it's not a PvP I guess?

Double world champion Rogue or tripple sOs would have been better with this logic(especially the IEM logic because soO went downhill from there). While they're not in the best form either, are they?

Well there will be patches so I wouldn’t worry too much about their form, especially considering how close to BlizzCon the matches will be.
GSL groups are volatile, who would have thought?
I stay still, these 3 are probably the best lineup from the players available

Truth to be told there wasn't much interest to be on the line up so if you put it this way...
Dear OGamingTV, you should introduce some kind of player's qualifications. LOW GML's "play" - is not what I want to see here. Select 6-7 players by voting and take 3-4 after they play with each other. Please.

The WESG and Katowice champions couldn't even make it out of the ro32 in the most recent GSL and the Katowice champion followed that up by losing to a non-Korean Terran (LOL).
The Asus ROG champion is known for questionable form in online tournaments.
Is Buster an alt name for someone? Cause I have never heard that name in my life and I feel I have a pretty good grasp on the pro scene
Also, Scarlett should pull out so we get NoRegret-TheRiddler and Printf
Not an alt. He's just your regular NA GM who played for Waterloo in the CSL. His playstyle is pretty standard iirc.
Uh, weird, is it all hacks or he is popular in some community? 5th place still put him in front of Jason, Disk, Bioice, Semper, Drunkenboy, Jig.... who I fell are all a lot more well known

Neither! Someone else linked this reddit thread, but in a nutshell: someone made a post on /r/overwatch with 2 link baits to the voting page for riddler and buster... Whoever did this is slimy as fuck.
It's not clear if this is just the result of removing votes that used Tor for voting (or some other technique) or if it's related to the manipulation above.

Also was Masa still not allowed to be Canadian?
MaSa has yet to get his Canadian citizenship.
For god's sake just add a MaSa rule to the hand book.

Clavie is a Chinese man in his all career. Only ESL thinks he is a Swiss man because he used Swiss flag for register ...

And how exactly is that related to MaSa who's an NA player who's spent almost all of his life in Canada?

Seriously just write "MaSa can play for Canada in the rulebook" If you want you can add "he's a dumbdumb for not having a citizenship after 15 years"

Just realised, the qualifiers start today allready Edit: the first 2 series today look pretty underwhelming, but I m realy curious how the mixed format is going to affect it.
