The second day of RO16 matches in the GSL Super Tournament saw sOs, Zest, Patience, and Classic advance to the quarterfinals, completing a lopsided 1-Terran, 7-Protoss bracket.
Should Stats defeat GuMiho in their upcoming semifinal match, Stats will seal a 100% match win-rate for Protoss in the tournament and guarantee a Protoss champion. The latest results continue a trend of Protoss domination in the revitalized Super Tournament, with Protoss players winning three out of four championships since the competition was revived in 2017.
The quarterfinals will be played on Saturday, Apr 20 8:00am GMT (GMT+00:00), while the semifinals and grand final will be played on Sunday, Apr 21 8:00am GMT (GMT+00:00).
This is the first time in GSL history that any Ro8 has 7 players of a single race. Not even GomTvT or BL/Infestor or the Blink era managed to get past 6.
So the only non-protoss to advance was the only match that didn't involve protoss, lul. This should be fun; watching reddit's reaction might be more entertaining than the rest of the tournament.

I won't bother watching the entire tournaments except the final match, let say if Guminho lost today. Hopefully he may win and Stats can try next time though I knew toss armies under Stats works well against mech.
The pvp is boring for me unless the performers are someone like Stats against the one he can go neck and neck with.

The new meta definitely benefits toss so much. Even the lower tier toss players can advance.
Protoss finally does super well in a premier tournament and everyone loses their marbles. Last WCS/CodeS/IEM/BlizzCon winner that was a Protoss? If there’s imbalance right now I’d be pointing at Zerg. 🙄

do not compare top1 being or not protoss with top8 being 7/8 protoss

Protoss has been getting nothing. They're starving for a tournament win. No surprise now that the dust has cleared after terran and zerg won IEM/WESG/GSL Code S suddenly the protosses are having their day.

Protoss was well represented in the Ro8 of all of those tournaments. Super disingenuous to compare 1 Protoss losing in the finals to almost all the Terrans and Zergs losing well before they can get anywhere close to the finals.

There's nothing untrue about what I said, I'm not sure why you're trying to make an argument.
Finally got a chance to watch the games after work. Two points to note.
Point one: GuMiho doesn’t play Terran, GuMiho plays mech.
All the Terrans failed to qualify. The one Terran who was seeded in without needing to qualify tried to play mech like GuMiho but despite better mechanics didn’t have anywhere near the experience.

Just like there's nothing untrue about 7 Protoss/1 Terran being the most uneven race distribution GSL has ever seen.
The Protoss players know they done goofed. To make up for it they should throw games to gumiho to avoid nerfs and keep the right to keep complaining about racial imbalance and not winning tournaments.
Luckily PvP is in a much better place compared to last patch and arguably the best mirror match to watch right now.

Imaging saying that non-sarcastically

News flash: I’ve added up all the premier tournament matches played in HomeStory Cup WCS GSL IEM and WESG as well as Spring Challengers to date - guess which race wins non mirror matchups the most? Not Protoss. Zerg. Zerg has a winning record against both Protoss and Terran. Therefore by Protoss haters logic, Zerg is imbalanced. 😜

I never said there was.
Originally before this post you quoted I said it's no surprise at all that we're having a protoss dominated tournament after zerg and terran have won all the major tournaments so far. That's exactly what's happening.
By the way it's not even a foregone conclusion that protoss wins this tournament. How funny would it be if Gumiho pulls off a win here as the only non-protoss left in the quarterfinals? It's not THAT unthinkable haha.

It doesn't even matter
Protoss has been getting nerfed even when they won almost nothing in 2018

Here's the thing though: If Maru and Serral would play Protoss, P would've won everything in 2018

In my opinion terran and zerg actually have more skill potential so it doesn't work that way.

Thanks for the research.
I think the game is reasonably balanced at the top level. Of course, if I believed in the para-normal maybe I might believe the ghost of Avilo is rising up and haunting the GSL Super Tournament.
as far as Protoss dominance in this tourney.... sometimes when you flip a coin 8 times ... it comes up tails 7 times.

I agree the "if maru/serral play protoss" is not a good argument. However would say the protoss has more skill potential than in hots and it still has been very dominant in the past. All in all, Stats, Zest, Classic reached finals, they're facing the same problem the zergs do in gsl (no winner since 2015)

lol come on bro -
Assuming you watched the games - Stats clearly played waaaaaay below his normal level -
Game 1 Lost 7 stalkers for free right before Gumi pulled the boys
Game 2 Took a horrrrendous fight into 6 tanks with 1 non matrixed colossus and a few stalkers banshees killed last 2 colo.
Game 3 Let Gumi literally walk up in between and siege his bases - didn't kill the rocks and took another horrendous fight.
The best protoss in the world did not play remotely like the best protoss in the world in this series - that is clear.
i watch more than i play sc2 now a days, and when i do play it's usually random, so i don't care much about balance tbh. but, as a viewer, having 7 protoss in the ro8 makes for a poor watching experience, at least to me. today, i've watched gumiho vs stats, took a break and came back to watch patience vs classic. and let me tell you, it wasn't due to lack of time,

It's pretty easy to balance whine if you just dismiss any terran victory as the opponent playing badly. Might as well argue that the brackets should have been balanced but Rogue, RagnaroK and Solar played badly.

I wasn't talking about skill limits, well, maybe a little. But look at who Maru and Serral defeated in the finals - basically everytime it was a Toss, Maru and Serral seemed to be the only players all year to consistently being able to beat Protoss

The thing with all live competitive contests is they can end up being very boring sometimes. Its the price you pay for the live experience. My grandfather went to some Golf tourney that had Tiger Woods in it years ago. He had a 20 stroke lead going into the final day. It was very boring.

I mean it’s boring as a contest sure, there is something to be said for being present when a guy eviscerates a field of amazingly talented players to that degree though
I mean a titanic series is usually preferable, just every so often it’s nice to be around for something crazy dominance wise though
There’s something rather inspiring that a person can destroy the field, a field who themselves have dedicated their lives to something

Nice! Does it say anything notable for tonight?
Gumiho is a clear favorite over Parting, Classic is a minor favorite over sOs, Gumiho is about even against sOs and a decent favorite against Classic. So Gumiho would be my #1 pick as the winner!

If you were arguing with concrete examples of them playing bad then that would make sense. My post has nothing to do with balance whining. It has to do with someones disingenuous use of best protoss in the world losing to a Terran in 1 series in 1 tournament when he very obviously played poorly. This is another way of writing: "Look everyone! Another Terran(not just Maru) has beaten the best that balance will allow for Protoss! " When anybody who watched it knows thats not remotely the case. He had an off day..it happens.. not every match of every tournament has "balance implications".. sometimes people get bopped cause they play bad. I didnt watch the qualifiers so I dont know if thats what happened in all of the Terran matches or not..but if I did and they didnt show up I wouldnt be on here crying about it lmao.
If you are reading this, WAKE UP. You are in a AlphaStar simulation for multi-agent reinforcement learning process.. Don't you see it? The same matchups repeating in tournament? Its because the computer only has a set number of lines. Wake up before its too late!

Couldn't agree more. Reading these discussion threads it's always so sad people always whinge about Protoss being imba when nearly every race as had their glory moments of pure domination (zerg: broodlord/infestor days. Terrn: Warhound/Early WoL days)
Those who actually watched the games know how close sOs nearly got knocked out. And how PartinG got really lucky with Ragnarok. Also, that Marus vs Stats series could've EASILY ended with Maru winning.
