Personally its sad to see going go4sc2 away however i feel like there are a lot of weekly and monthly stuff already so its not that big of a hit?
What do you guys think?

The question is, why ? I was expecting HSC to end sooner than you...
|
That's a huge blow. Sad stuff but they will have their reasons.

I didn't watch anymore but it's make me sad, I have such good memories of this tournament between 2010-11, the Happy's wins, the rise of Stephano, it was such good times for the scene.

I don't think go4sc2 is strictly needed at the moment but it's very sad to see it go.

I think it was very good for up&comers, there is not so many tournaments where you can show yourself anymore and practicing for the sole purpose to take part in WCS Qualifiers every 2-3 months is not very viable

Ouch never expected to see the day A lot of love to all the admin, ref and caster who bring us more Starcraft that anyone in the world over the years, it won't be the same without you.

RIP, sad to see it go for the reasons Nerchio mentioned above.

This is a huge loss. This was the last public tournament series where the brackets never got fixed/seeded to favor certain players. Brackets were always generated at random. It was ran properly. This is where talent developed. What a shame.
Only thing left is the "sports entertainment" style tournaments where brackets are set up in advance and in a way to favor a specific set of players(usually the incrowd). Honestly, this is what killed starcraft. You guys tried to operate as if you were above everyone and you alienated the community. Aside from Rifkin's tournies that is....
And this is why you rarely saw "new blood". The SC2 scene was not ran like a fair-for-all scene. The people in power/influence always tried to make it about popularity and views. That's not what starcraft is about. It's not about who can attract more viewers, the game is about dominating your opponent. For the last 8 years it's been a circlejerk of the same group of people(who also had friends in positions of power/influence in the scene to ensure those people could constantly "have a job"). Ya'll ruined competitive starcraft with your bs politics. It doesn't take a genius to figure out that the scene was "rigged" to favor a certain set of individuals. If only you knew what the word "community" meant.
Anywho, angry rant aside, It's a shame. GO4SC2 was the original sc2 tournament series, or one of them(zotac was another).

Arent there alternatives in form of ProxyTempest and OSC?
Just asking

all things come to an end... I think Go4 hasn't been too big of a tournament lately. Alas, it was mostly fun to watch and a good start for upcoming new pros.

No, it's not a joke. Read my words literally, as "it's not like Blizzard is dropping sc2".

I guess they will, maybe we'll have another year after this one(although I wouldn't be suprised if they did a "HOTS" on this one as well right after Blizzcon 19).

I don't like Nerchio especially but his insight on this issue - I agree with him.

So with Go4 gone, what does ESL actually do for SC2 anymore, just IEM Katowice once a year? Not necessarily a good sign.

Come on, let explode your joy of seeing an unholy tournament gone. It's a good news for Korean Starcraft.

why ? sc2 is bigger then ever

Very unfortunate to see them go. Tuned in to see quite a few over the years. Thanks for everyone who made them happen.

This is sad. It was a sunday afternoon classic in Europe. I'll try to play that last Cup...

What Nerchio says is true and wise, what you are instead doing is not reading my whole statement. You missed "I'm sad to see it go", it's not like this is binary and I should be destroyed like someone died(or be stupidly happy for unknown reasons); if it was up to me, Go4Sc2 would have run until the end of Sc2.

Damn, Zedd's gonna be really sad..everyone knows go4 > any WCS event.
|
I don't watch it but it is still sad to see a long-standing event going under.
|
I cant say i watched alot of it. But still sad to see it go, but as others have said...theres a ton of weekly and monthly cups, tournaments,boX etc etc.
|
Sad to see that go4sc2 is being discontinued, this really sucks.

I feel so bad after that news. Sad, very sad

For all the years spent watching sc2 go4sc2 was always there, like some noise in the background You wont notice becuase its always there. But suddenly when its gone You notice everything is different now.
|
Why? What's the point of taking down a great tournament?
|
End of an era, thank you for running the tournaments for so long.

If a player is consistently competitive on ladder, they can then be competitive in tournies like that, then they have WCS to have a shot at if they're competitive in online tournaments.
I'm not a progamer myself and I can't really comment with any insight, Europe has had more depth in its scene than NA for most if not all of SC2, and don't think that's entirely coincidental with how many online tournaments with good players there have been ever since the early days of SC2.

RIP esl (for me). I won't support anything connected to them anymore. But who cares, something better will come along made by people who actually care about the game. Not by people who ONLY care about sponsors and money.

Come on they ran like 4 tournament a week for 9 years, that's way more than any other org. How about we don't shit of them?

This is really unfortunate D: There aren't that many "low profile" tournaments on the scene and they are necessary for health of any sport

Strictly needed=essential, I am quite sure even western up and comers will find another way(not to mention Sc2 as a whole). Thus sais, of course, it would have been much better if Go4Sc2 wasn't discontinued.
