At his peak, one of the more pleasing protoss players to watch in my opinion. Genuine style and flair, to go with skill.

Maybe he isn't the one of the all time best players but his impact on the game and the scene in general is up at the top.

Sad, but expected - he stopped streaming and when he did you could see his frustration about his current skill level. He tried to get back and I respect him for that even more.

During his prime he was just amazing player to watch, with his signature Warp Prism. Good luck HerO in your future endeavors.

yeah it's true, because he lacked consistency

but he really was the type of player that could beat anyone at any time and wouldn't even be that surprising

Sad to see another oldie go. He may be gone, but imo he played possibly the best TvP series of all-time to close out one of the greatest tournaments we've ever had in sc2.

(Keep in mind Polt had already defeated Classic and Rain to reach HerO)

I remember when he first broke into GSL by eliminating DRG in the qualifiers when DRG was the hottest up and coming secret ladder hero. but on the consistency point then HerO got pulled out to snipe DRG in GSTL soon after and failed miserably.

If you ever watched HerO stream, you knew he was one of the most talented guys playing the game. There was like a fluidity and speed to his movement that was hard to follow. Good luck HerO!

I remember this guy from Squirtle's royal road run (that failed) in GSL. Surprised that he did so well overseas - more earning than herO as of today. But it's a shame (not for him) that he left Korean scene.
Neither party will be missed.

HerO was the one who really invented the full macro PvZ back in the early WoL days while protosses back then were frightened to expand early on 3 bases. If you don't believe me, watch some Day9 analyses. Most of the creative protosses always pointed him as an inspiration.
Very often I was so pissed of how emotional he is and he was not able to finish with an Code S trophy mainly because of that. But I guess this is part of his unique personality which determines who he is. As soon he ended his partnership with TL team I suspected that he will retire soon. After all HerO got plenty of time for some glory and I don't feel bad for him. For the statistics only Taeja is more successful as a player from this calliber.

Why the ban?

Also no he left liquid but didn't retire, just was teamless in Korea. :/ He deserved better, really enjoyed his play even though I was a zerg player. Gonna miss watching this nerd.

Yeah, I don't really get the reasoning for the ban.. I doubt there was any malicious intent, I thought the same thing when I saw the title.. Guess it's cause he hasn't played in anything for a long time.

Anyways, best of luck in the future.

Met him a couple of times at Events in germany and was even allowed to share a cigarette with him haha

Was sad back than when he stoped playing so the announcement right now does not hit me that hard, but i am still very sad.

Will miss those times!
Hope he reads some stuff here in the forum.

You will be missed! Best or luck for your future and keep it up!

Hmm sadly it was to be expected, as I have only seen him streaming pubg lately (I might have been looking at wrong times though).

Sad to see him go. I came to the scene after his highest point but you could always see some good games of him.

I knew he left Liquid a while ago and then tried to qualify for the GSL, but after that I thought he had sort of unofficially retired.

Same. He has been marked as inactive on aligulac too, so I don't think it is unusual to think that.

Anyway, thanks HerO for all the great games and all the best in whatever follows next!

i remember back when he was at the end of his competitive peak it was still really fun to watch him use warp prisms and multitask. the kind of player that makes watching fun, like a maru or life

it's players who make the game fun to watch, not balance or races

I had the honor to play Hero at Dreamhack Summer 2011. I actually thought I had him beaten in game 2. Then a wild mothership appeared and I lost the game in embarassing fashion... :<

Sad to see HerO go, but I guess it doesn't come as a big surprise. He was a player who showed such brilliance at times, I always remember feeling like his nerves got in his way. He also always seemed like he had a fresh and different approach to what everyone else was doing. Glad he's getting some love and good memories in this thread.

This makes me incredibly sad, as I met HerO at a lan almost 5 years ago and he was super nice and humble. Even smoke a cig with him between some of his matches. I will never forget his reaction winning Dreamhack, pure euphoria. One of the most likable players in the whole scene for a long time. Good luck to him in everything he does.
I used to play random, but for you I play very specifically.

This was the event when I met him in person. I found out that he smoked, and back then, I smoked, too. Golden times, I was part of that "crowd" and I remember JD actually crying prior and after his Sick Nerd Baller award. Those were good times.

Thank you, HerO.

Congrats on a long and successful career. As others mentioned before, I'll remember you for being an anchor on Teamliquid/EG and bringing gaming chairs to Korea. I'll also remember the wild hairdos, the amazing Dreamhack runs, warp prism micro, and the incredible series vs Polt. I know you always got really nervous in games, but it was great to see a pro battle with the same emotions us viewers have when playing the game.

Congrats and enjoy your retirement. GLHF in the future, keep us updated!

This! I'll always remember his face when he won Dreamhack.

I remember when he + Show Spoiler +
faked out sOs of all people
in Proleague in 2015.

Stopped watching ESL content in 2022 when the company was acquired by Savvy Gaming Group. Also object to sponsorships by the U.S. Air Force. Thanks for the lively discussions about sportswashing. StarCraft II is not for me anymore.

My all time favorite player. Thank you for everything HerO, you made Protoss truly exciting.
I always wished I could have met him someday, I wonder if it's still possible...

Anyway, good luck with everything in the future and please be happy, you deserve it ♥
