IEM have announced their prize money distribution for IEM Katowice. The prize pool is subsidized by Blizzard with money gained through Warchest purchases. Aside from $150,000 in winnings, the winner of IEM Katowice will be awarded a direct seed into the WCS Global Finals 2018.

At $400,000, the prize pool is the highest in IEM's StarCraft II history. Last year's tournament had $250,000 up for grabs, 2016 was set at $150,000.

Base prize money now covers all players finishing in at least 60th place. Prize distribution in 2017 reached the top 44 players of the tournament.

While the format remains the same — Round Robin group stage format followed by a single elimination bracket stage, a format that was well received among spectators and players — prize money awarded for each map victory has also increased from $100 to $200.

I think we never have same player win IEM Katowice twice so I expect a new winner this year. sOs won it already so I hope he is out!

Last year's Katowice was amazing, hoping it will be on a similar level again. This prize money is good news and seems promising for the rest of the tournament.

I hope this encourages more koreans to fly over and play in the offline qualifier. It was really easy for Stats to get through last year

Because Stats is what people should measure themselves by? It was really easy for him to get to the finals of the whole thing, cause that's how good he was. I'm sure there'll be quite a few noteworthy sign-ups though.

Yeah I'm sure sOs, soO, or Maru would have had a much harder time against those no-name polish zergs

This. While you europeans might be better in almost every way (metric system, health care, university tuition, paid maternal leave, paid vacation days, internet/cellular prices, net neutrality), using a dot to separate three digits is just obscenely wrong.

This is awesome. I bought the war chest only because I can support the scene. Seeing this makes me wanna continue supporting . I love it and I think as long as people put money into the scene, and we can see where the support goes ,
those are the numbers that will really make or break the SC2 scene.

For such a long time the only contribution I could make was to open the stream on all the computers I had at home.

Now I can afford to have a small monthly budget that goes to my favorite streamers.
Because after a long day of work I can't play and I love watching SC2.

Thank you teamliquid for your existence and to all who made this possible !
I love Starcraft .

So this gives us a free pass to call for a "fix" every time the absurd american date format is used, right?

It is still a dead game honey boo boo. If it is still popular, Blizzard will not have to subsidize the prize pool to save the game.

Just an hour ago decided to check the tickets for IEM Katowice - was surprised to find out tickets for the weekend show (SC2 and CS:GO) are are actually SOLD OUT. Damn, it's a stage on the stadium and no tickets left 2 months prior to the event. I wonder where they should hold the events to allow larger live audience...

Actually the tickets get sold by batch. There were already 2 batches, and I'm not sure if there will be more batches afterwards. (There were last year iirc) I got my tickets the day the 2nd batch went live (which is before Christmas) so it wouldn't surprise me that it's sold out by now. You can also attend the event without ticket, however you may have to wait for like the longest time.

If you want to buy tickets I suggest you look out for it closely and wait for the potential 3rd batch.

Only if you're promoting the best date format which is year-month-day (YMD), used in China, Korea, Japan and Taiwan. Coincidentally it sorts perfectly in computer directories.
