Yeah Cure definitely needs an easy group. Hopefully he doesn't meet the titan that is Prince.

Oh I get it. There's a 2nd day so Terrans have a chance to qualify

Really though I wonder what the reason for 2 qualifying days could be.

If a player needs an easy group in QUALIFIERS, they aren't going to accomplish much in the actual tournament.

Hopefully two qualifying days will make these qualifiers less volatile.

I wonder to what end it's 2 days though. In one day qualifiers like 90% of the favorites made it every time anyway. Having only 16 people qualify per day seems really inefficient and coming back the next day is just annoying for the players who barely don't make it on day 1 (especially if they're not from Seoul). And it's not like this is getting Afreeca an extra day of stream revenue since they're probably still not showing anything.

Must be at least 12... wow it would be pretty amazing to see a 12-year-old play gsl these days considering how old the players have gotten.

Even back in the early days of WoL the youngest players in GSL were still like 15 or so I think (?)

Oh yh I forgot how young Maru was. He was definitely an exception though. Creator was really young as well I think.

But still, the youngest players typically seen in GSL were like 15-16. sc, Life, Dream, Leenock, Taeja, jjakji being the more obvious ones

Are you in Seattle or something? I was just there and it looked like something out of 1984. Grey and wet and crowded and miserable as the heavens pissed on the city. Also, traffic was godawful, I almost crashed like seventeen times.

The Bay was so much better, sunny and beautiful, practically summer.

EDIT: Oh wait I'm a dumbass you meant the Canadian West Coast, didn't you? So like Vancouver?

Even back in the early days of WoL the youngest players in GSL were still like 15 or so I think (?)

No, Maru played his first GSL game when he was 13.

Oh yh I forgot how young Maru was. He was definitely an exception though. Creator was really young as well I think.

But still, the youngest players typically seen in GSL were like 15-16. sc, Life, Dream, Leenock, Taeja, jjakji being the more obvious ones

Maru is 20 now. Feel old yet?

Yes, but more so unaccomplished.

Are you saying Maru is unaccomplished (not wrong, I guess, given his skill) or that you are?

Talking about me

Cheer up man, it's the holiday season. Canada must be beautiful this time of year.

It rained on twenty-seven of the last thirty days over here on the West Coast so could be better.

Yeah. But Seattle is basically the same thing.

Creator is also 20 now, same as Maru.

It's been 5 years since Creator was in that Blizzcon finals vs PartinG... He participated at his first blizzcon finals at 15... god dammit.

The level has gone up so much that a BlizzCon finalist is barely a S code player now

I am excited. The GSL is still my favorite tourney to watch. Keep 'em coming!

GSL Qualifiers have always many byes.
Is it because many are too shy to compete?

It's useless to try at this point, players are just too good for amateurs now ...

There are so few actual pros left in Korea it's worth a shot, even if you're barely GM in Korea. If Noregret can qualify for Code S, any GM player can.

you give Noregret to little credit, he qualified by beating Impact twice.
I doubt every GM player can do that.

While that might be true, amateurs are not going for it (and the few that have like Prince haven't met much success). You do have to actually go to the studio for a day (in this case two) which disincentives people.

NoRegreT deserves some credit, but I doubt he can surprise people again which is I assume what happened when he qualified last time.

The top top guys are several leagues above everyone else. With no latency effects, players at the GM level don't stand a chance unless they're ranked top 12ish, and even then their game plan is likely to get studied and countered super hard.

Currently Scarlett, SpeCial, Zanster, SortOf, puCK, DnS and NoRegreT are in the foreign house. There could be some Chinese players staying elsewhere that will also give it a shot.

Hopefully the lower tier of Korean Starcraft can rise up and drive out the dirty foreigners. If Korean SC2 is going to survive into 2019 after some major retirements we are going to see in 2018, it will need players like Creator, NightMare, Impact, Pet, etc. to step it up.

Impact has been doing well recently, so he should get in. As for the rest...I mean their gap already closed a long time ago.
