HSC! HSC! HSC! Truly, words cannot describe how great this event is.

ESPORTS! Great job everyone. Great event!

Hype! There was mention of bringing additional casters on. Would be sick if they brought maynarde.

HSC is as unkillable as Zest's god phoenixes

Seriously, the Donation Hype Train was amazing to watch. I know they were trying to keep it cool and laugh and tell stories, but it really seemed that they were all quite in shock to see some of the cool donations coming in. Thanks for all the hard work and I hope this shows that some of it is paying off!

This was one of the best things this year. The train just kept on coming, such a great feeling.

Sitting downstairs watching this happen was truly amazing. HSC XVI is going to be great again and they'll also be able to announce it earlier as there's no hassle with dates as BlizzCon will have been played before then. I'm hyped and so excited to be part of a community this passionate and generous!

Well deserved for HSC and TakeTV; they do an amazing job. Was a great weekend to watch and follow HSC.

DARK FOR HSC XVI!!! pls dark, do it. i would explode of happiness!!

HSC is the perfect way to combine the spirit of the good old LANs that we did with friends at home with the actual eSport. Congratz guys. You are truely awsome!

Spend the whole budget on Artosis please!

so does that extra 5000 euros go to the next next homestory cup? or just make the next one extra special?

HSC will live on forever. Even after sc2, we will just continue with sc3 or wc4 HSC .

Lol, Innovation would be horrible for HSC.
If we're expressin' opinions on the "extra" money, I'd just like to see it go towards 17. Just keep it all going long-term instead of grabbing something unnecessary.
Hope we can get an AGDQ-style donation shout-out thing going for HSC. Feels like there's a chance it would fit well and we could keep HSC goin' forever.

Was so good to see the donation train going on, when donations were at 5000 I remember thinking I hoped they could reach 10k before the end of the day. Would never believe it would go to 25k :O

I think that having Solar and Artosis there would be good picks as well. Translators can be useful haha

Even though they're the best players, and the ones we rarely get to see outside of a professional studio?
Plus having the koreans and foreigners interact (and be able to play eachother) is unique to HSC as well

Both would be horrible for HSC in terms of personality, aloof and introspective when around foreigners, probably due to the language/culture barrier (according to Korean fans Inno is actually a pretty funny guy).
Bluntly put, Zest was/is not a great fit for HSC either. He has a similar personality to Inno/Maru in the sense that he avoided interviews like the plague, spoke little English, and generally kept fan interaction to a minimum. The only reason it wasn't a disaster was because he has a lot of fans who made memes about his personality quirks (double hat for example).
That being said, both INnoVation and Maru have a ton of fans as well (and memes are memes), so inviting them to HSC might not actually be such a terrible idea seeing as Zest turned out fine. Popularity with the fans goes a long way.
I believe somebody mentioned that Maru himself didn't want to attend, but I know that Inno said he would go if invited during an interview.

Inno is also a great trash-talker. "If you're lacking in skill you might as well be good at running your mouth" is such a good quote. I want more of that.

This is unbelievable! I donated early on when the total donations were only about $1600, and I thought, oh crap no way it makes it $20k at this rate. I'm really glad to see hsc continue!

This is awesome, SC2 doesn't need to be the biggest Esport - leave that for more simpleton games (I kid)....It requires too much mindfulness and is too challenging for that. But it is still a great RTS game and I'll be happy as long as there is a solid, thriving community with great casters, matches, and players to watch and learn from & enjoy.

lol, if we need to have another fundraiser to guarantee a translator (although you could argue we shouldnt need one), id be down

To be fair, I don't agree. The other koreans (Gumiho and Byun) were way more shy, especially during the last day. They didn't stick around to party whereas other koreans have. Maybe Zest wouldn't have done it either if he hadn't won, but he's certainly a little more outgoing than the other two koreans that were there. What people don't see on stream is what goes on in the bar the couple of hours after the event and Zest is one of the koreans that actually sticks around. He did last time as well when he didn't win. Gumiho, Byun and some foreigners left very early or immediately. Zest definitely has more ''personality'' than the other people you've mentioned, IMO.

While Zest having more of an off-camera personality is good to hear, it's also exactly that: good to hear. Because as somebody who wasn't there in person, I (and the ~20k others on stream) had no way of knowing and more importantly, no way of enjoying.
Reaching out to the fans is obviously important, but without doing so on-camera drastically reduces the scale of that interaction. I mean, the miraculous fundraising drive that successfully ensured HSC XVI was done via Twitch, from the wallets of Twitch fans.
So while Zest being a lively guy off-camera is good to hear, camera-shy is exactly the same as shy for most of the fans.

I think HSC is as much for the people attending live as for the twitch viewers. Of course it's ultimately up to TakeTV but I think it's fine to have some players that are shy there. It is also a tournament and he played beautifully. As someone who only got to watch the stream, that's more than enough for me. I think he was a great choice to invite.
P.S. Attending foreign events and interacting with foreign fans, even if it's just off camera, will probably also make him feel more comfortable. Possibly on camera at some point too.

My original post was in support of others who advocated inviting "shy" players (examples were Maru and Inno), which some other posters were against for various reasons. I used Zest as an example of a "shy" player who turned out quite well, and while he may not be so aloof in person, he definitely came across as such on camera.
I wholeheartedly agree that inviting shy players is perfectly fine and definitely something TakeTV ought to take under consideration for HSC XVI. I also support the idea of having a translator, perhaps Solar since he can pull double duty as a player.
Also, big congratulations for your job at Valencia, feardragon! Your rise to casting on the big stage is an inspiration for us all.
|
We definitely need Solar. If he could not attend because of some reason, please, get Smix or some other interpreter. But Solar would be the best. We definitely want to see interviews with every Korean after each won match! Keep the dream alive! Of course, I would like to see sOs there right after his successful BlizzCon 2017 run, but this depends on Take, whom he chooses. Just Solar is necessary for the interviews. Additionally, he is a great and funny person for this kind of action.
|
I think we already have enough Koreans to add to the excitement of the Korean vs foreigner thing. If you have too many, then it results in Korean vs Korean match ups all the way though the finals which means i often stop watching (I love GSL, go figure).
Having another caster would be good I think, there were some pretty big days for 2 people to handle. Plus there is a B stream (that I didn't even get the chance to see).
I also wonder if someone like Smix would work. She could be a presenter, translator for the Koreans (so we actually get interviews), and even do some casting in conjunction with pro's. I imagine she could do the host, fill in space when others are silent thing, while the pro's could do the actual analysis.

All we see of them are translated interviews and just from them we draw conclusions about their personality. It would be a great opportunity for getting to know them better

Solar would be best if you're looking for English speaking abilities. soO is probably second best. It's very easy to carry a conversation with him in English if you speak slowly and he's a very funny guy.

Jin Air sent some players to HSC 14 didn't they? Wonder if they will do so again

Best way to fund a tournament I think. You can really feel the passion of the community for something like this.
|
HSC is the best tournament in Starcraft and I look forward to every single one of them. It's all about the players, and I'm sure some of them have such a great time that many would pay to be there.
It has come up in this thread a bunch that Take should spend a lot of money to get Artosis to come, and while I'd like to see him there too, if a free flight isn't enough incentive to go have a great time at HSC, he shouldn't be there in the first place. HSC is a community driven, player focused, fun tournament. No one should need to be given an appearance fee. Take basically said on stream that 1k = another player invite. Think of all of the great players and personalities that could be added with the money instead of Artosis.
