How time flies! It's almost time for WCS Valencia, and with it coming up I am here with a (mostly) full player list. With Neeb terrorizing the circuit it will be up to you, faithful viewer, to empower someone to stop his reign and give someone else the slot to the WCS Global Finals before he takes a third one–lest we are forced to enter in his offraces as competitors. Personally I have faith in Has, who is coming back via WCS Challenger.

If you still want to compete you can! As people drop out from being unable to attend last minute we're in a perpetual state of having a few slots open, all you have to do to play is fill in the form in our signup page and get to playing against the best on site in Valencia. You could walk away with the story of the time you cheesed Stephano in the first group stage to impress your friends, forever.

I'm sure there are wrong tags and names and stuff so let me know please so I can fix them!!

except for the ones where it has a clan tag where normally a team would go I know about those and I've decided to leave them.

Curious to not see (T)Kelazhur among the player list. Is he that certain he'll qualify via Copa América, or is ROOT low on funds to send another player to Valencia?

Still cheering for my fellow LATAM players who are on this list: (T)MajOr, (Z)Cham, and (Z)Ryu.

Hello, although Has and Nice are still part of BearMe, they've requested that the tag be removed to not confuse potential organisations who wants to pick them up! Very appreciated if you could remove the tag for them.

Same for iAsonu as he decided to skip Valencia due to health concerns.

...I sincerely don't know which "parameters" are used for a sign up to a wcs tournament to be taken into consideration and then accepted (apart from the rules in the handbook ofc) but if it just a matter of time souL kinda makes me laugh with his "4 days ago" since the sign-ups opened more than a month ago now and with all the local players signing in I doubt that 15 days before the tournament there would ever be slots still available...

Congrats and gl hf!

I think CynicalDeath's point above still stands though. There are only 4 tournaments to keep track of this year for our ambitious foreigners, and the qualifier was played a long time ago...

This list is clearly not final by any mean. Cope America is still on-going so it is very likely that Major, Kelazhur or Cham will get the 2 slots on Ro32 so they won't be at open bracket at all. That should free up 2 more slots.

Also, I understand there is first-come first-serve rule here but this is just straight-up bad and frankly amateur. Let make an cut-off date for sign-up. Then, from the pool of signed-up players, select them based on recent performances and perhaps some home-country players. For those who sign up after cut-off date, first-come first-server if there are still slots open.

This is professional event and somehow the registration process is confusing and unorganized. At least keep it together to show some courtesy to players and fans worldwide.

I think it's a very reasonable system.

It shouldn't be that hard to sign up long in advance. Also first served means blizzard can send acceptance letters right when you apply, which makes it much easier to book flight tickets and hotels in long advance.

Honestly if you are a professional player who makes a living off tournaments like this and you didn't sign up until 2 weeks before the event, I feel like it's your own fault.

What if, like myself, one's a student, who's been hoping to become pro at this game for almost 7 years now, and can only afford to go to Valencia after reaching top32 @ DH Jonkoping? In my humble view the best solution would be to split the signups into two stages: the first one being held on a first come first served basis, where lesser known players could secure a spot by simply grabbing one as soon as the event is announced, and then the second stage where the remaining pool of players is somehow evaluated based on past performance.

Though I agree players should sign up as soon as they can if they intend to attend to the event for real, there are a lot of factors that may delay their decisions. People have a life outside of esports you know. You need to work out the schedule, travelling and money.

Frankly, I dislike players who sign up way in advance and then drop off just couple days before the event like some of them did at Jonkoping. They need to find a way to force players to be more certain with their participation so others can sign up instead in time for event and prepare for their trips.

why are we debating whether the players signed up early enough when it's written right in the OP that there are always a couple of spots open and people can still sign up?

why does it seem like there are people who only follow esports so they can complain that the players, who are a bunch of 18-25 year old gamers, aren't "professional enough"?

While DH Austin and DH Jonkoping could have many vacant spots as these places are difficult to get to, it would not be surprising that there will be too many players wanting to participate in Valencia, especially its a tourist attraction during summer holidays. I am surprised that the open bracket has only 59 signups (out of 64). Clearly there must be more players who want to participate - like Mana, Bly, Soul, ZIggy, Sort of, Heromarine, Beastyqt, Ptitdrogo etc. I don't think they did not sign up (at least not all of them), so most probably there is an issue on the organizers side here.
By the way, I don't think its first come first serve. WCS p[layers have priority in receiving spots.

First come first served is good for players exactly like you. You are really fucking good, ranking highly on EU right now, but you haven't had any major results so far. If they were to filter out players for better ones, wouldn't you find it extremely unfair to be kicked from a tournament for someone with better results? I think this system allows exactly for up and coming top players like you, to shine.

Looking into the weirdness with the sign ups, a handful of registrations weren't recorded properly and I'm not sure if the problem happened between our internal signups and making this list or what, but as this was not a fully packed list before there shouldn't be any problems accommodating everyone (typically on site we get a handful of dropouts and go through ~5 spots in the waitlist that morning too, after groups are made, so no one should worry about their inclusion). For now I've pasted in a handful of people that contacted us and added in the WCS Challenger players from Copa (which is just moving Cham and Special up to the top).

These lists are always evolving basically until we start the tournament, one of the reasons for posting this is that it reminds people to tell us they decided not to go but haven't given an email regarding dropping out. This particular event is a bit strange because it was close to WCS Jönköping which means

While this is an open tournament and in that way we treat sign ups as a first come, first serve item, the final way we handle registrations is a lot closer to the system you suggested AshC. When we send out the first series of confirmation emails that let people know they are either on the list or current on our wait list, there are a few slots at this stage kept "free" for people with high finishes in previous events to bypass the waitlist if they forgot to sign up or changed their plans regarding registration etc, we also reach out to teams and players at this stage if we see notable players who normally attend missing to make sure there was no mistake and that sort of thing.

So far I'd say it's been a pretty successful system and outside of this one case of weirdness has been able to do what we need it to do with relative ease.

...thanks for clarifying how the sign-ups procedure works!

Wait so they just award the spots to someone else instead of having them play for it?

The tournament is to close so they gave the 2 highest ranking players in wcs standings the spots.
Also TooDming was already a replacement for iAsonu got to remember that

Neeb came in fifth at NA Challenger and Kelazhur came in third at Latin Challenger so I guess it makes sense they gave the slots to those two. However, I wish they would give it to Bails instead of Neeb given they both came fifth at NA. I would like to see Bails to compete at Valencia.

My first reaction was: no way kelazhur is that high up. But as he is, you're probably right.

Anyways are there 2 more players in the first group stage then?
