Eight elite Koreans gathered in the octagon for Day 1 of the GSL Super Tournament.
Stats and GuMiho faced off in the first match. GuMiho’s ceaseless aggression gave him a lead in the series and he never turned back. Cloaked banshees killing 23 workers in game four allowed him to wrap things up, 3-1.
After that, herO beat TY in another quick affair. His 3-0 win was topped off by his stalker heavy army blinking on top of tanks and liberators before TY could reach a critical number of battlecruisers.
The third match was a masterclass in ling/bane style from ByuL. Apart from a hiccup on whirlwind, ByuL always had more than enough units to brute force Ryung and take the series 3-1.
Finishing the day off was Dark and ByuN. All ins, of varying success, and Dark’s distinctive infestor/hive tech armies determined the outcome. It took a full five games, but Dark won 3-2 to become the fourth quarterfinalist.

Good to see Dark performing well against Byun and solid performance from Byul as well! I'm still kind of disappointed of Stats' play, but I guess the success takes its toll?

Well even if Inno loses (not guaranteed by any means) soO still has to get past Maru, whose TvZ is not exactly a pushover. Also why would you hope for a mirror finals? Non-mirrors are way more entertaining. And ZvZ too. Worst mirror to watch imo, even slightly worse than TvT.
If aLive manages to beat Inno again I think he has a pretty doable route to the finals. Also kinda funny we get herO vs Gumiho in the quarters over Stats and TY

I don't hope for zvz finals, sorry for the confusion. I just saw it as a route for soO to win more easily. I just want him to win! I would prefer him to beat someone not zerg though.

Oh I see what you mean. Yeah a ZvZ would probably be the easiest for soO, and the odds of the top half of the bracket producing a Zerg finalist is pretty high. Unfortunately, the odds of soO making it through the bottom half are pretty long.
I expected Gumiho to beat Stats as he is the superior player. herO beating TY was also unsurprising. They are just better players. Don't know how Byul beat Ryung... maybe he Byul had a good day and Ryung had a bad day.
The biggest shock to me was Dark somehow beating Byun. I would have thought a repeat of the 2016 Blizzcon would happen.

ByuN laughed with Dark afterwards so don't be too sad! The mappool doesn't suit his playstyle at all, he still played well tho. Dark playing well again is nice, and it's refreshing because he uses mostly LotV compositions whereas ByuL is stuck on LBM.
Stats was really disappointing :/ I don't know if his play got figured out a bit or he doesn't try that much, but Zest started to go the same path after his GSL win and it ended up ugly...
Dark and Byun look pretty closed. They laugh together after the match ! It's cool to see some players like that after one of the skillest match of the day They face each other so many times for 2 years that they know each other very well !
