HYPE~!
I'm going to inform the stream prearranged time of KT_FlaSh Lee Young Ho. 17 Oct EDT 11:00 CEST 17:00 KST 24:00 http://www.twitch.tv/ktflash92 Please come here a lot!
I hope he streams for several hours or I won't be able to see it... :'( Anyway: FLASH HYPE ! I wish we'd see more of him, he looked really good in the last tourneys he took part in. I hope he trains hard and comes back even better next year ! 2015, year of FlaSh ! (sorry Harstem)
I cannot understand why people get so hyped about someone who has only provided medicore results (at best) in SC2 so far, is arrogant as hell (as seen in interviews or online tournaments) and does not even have any characteristics that make him special (like MC or Polt).
I understand that the szene needs someone to rally behind that is something like their figurehead and since Flash was so great in SC1 I understand the euphoria at first....
But can anyone seriously explain to me why people get excited when he is FORCED to stream for 2 hours and most likely won't even commentate in a way that they can understand? I really cannot understand this...
Thankful for non-fanboy, reasonable explanations. Won't read the other ones.

Perhaps people are interested in the (streaming) perspective of a legendary BW player, who happens to be pretty good at SC2 right now. Maybe they are hoping to see some unusual Flash-faces (I believe you can google Flash face starcraft if you don't know what I mean). Or maybe, they are interested in seeing just how good he is in a non-tournament environment, just playing games to play games. I always enjoy watching Innovation because I know he's incredibly good at ladder and is consistently top 10 on KR grandmaster. What if Flash is actually a ladder guru??

The non-tournament thing makes sense to me as well as the flash faces part ;-)
If people are interested in FP view, aren't there replays they could use then? Or is it simply a different feeling watching him live and more exciting?

Ficetool, there's people like me who prefer silent, high level play streams instead of gold-league tutorials (although I certainly could use some of these xD). For me it's far more entertaining to watch Rain's FPV and try to guess why he does what he does, instead of Winter explaining his gameplay

I can understand that =) Can you explain to me then why Flash is so special? When there is players like Polt who have a way more interesting personality (imo), better results in SC2? Why is there so much hype just cuz he was good in BW? That's the part I have trouble wrapping my head around.

First, not everyone find interesting the same things. In fact Idk what you find interesting about Polt, yeah he can speak English but I don't recall him saying anything interesting in his interviews... Although I don't follow him closely so I may be wrong. Speaking of Flash particularly, I didn't follow BW so his past godness is not what made me a fan of him, he rather got me with his humble and hard working attitude (you're very wrong about him being arrogant btw), and the fact he really cares about his team. Plus he's on KT which is my fav team too ^.^ Obviously he has a lot of fans because of BW and his kinda celebrity status.

He's had good results, just not great results. One recent tournament win and several high placings in really, really stacked tournaments represents an excellent showing, even if his results in one specific tournament series (WCS KR) are merely average.
While he has a large amount of the overhyped figurehead effect, he most certainly does have some special characteristics. He is a spectacularly crisp, precise macro player, who can consistently impress with the compositions and numbers he's able to pump out while under duress, or while executing well-planned, though perhaps not exquisitely microed, attacks. He's an exceptional defender, and it's very impressive to see how accurate his reads are. He seems to have a 6th sense for what his opponent is planning. He's very hard to surprise. Personally, I wasn't really able to appreciate his previous stream, as it seemed really par-for-the-course for a Korean Terran to me, but higher level players who are able to analyze the details of that level of gameplay were pretty enthusiastic, apparently. I can't really notice those things from first-person view, unless they're a Zerg player.

Why do you have to choose? I like it when QXC or Grubby streams and gives pointers on how they play at an extremely high level (for a foreigner). It satisfies my need for human explanation, while still not forcing me to watch Winter's gameplay.
EDIT: Sorry about the double post. I thought someone else would've posted in between by the time I clicked to post.

"It’s been a year since your last Ro16 appearance. Why did it take you so long to return?
I think you could see it as because I had no skill. But I came back since I worked hard so I really want to do well this time around."
"It looks like things have been flowing very well for you ever since the Proleague championship. What do you think?
It’s true that things have been going well for me these days but it’s not yet to a point where I can drop my guard. I won’t feel calm until I keep working hard and establish good results, and since it’s still only the Ro16, I plan to work hard."
"Q: How did you expect the game with Stork?
Flash: I want to play TvP. I want to meet a Protoss in the next match. I want to improve my weakness and accumulate more experience."
That sounds like the very definition of an arrogant player. You don't have to like flash, but don't make shit up.

This is true, but you get Flash's point of view don't forget :D Watching his every move is definitely appealing to Flash fans, it is the reason i will watch.

Maybe people watch because... uhm... you know... gameplay. I personally don't see the need for the stuff you listed - and yes I know, many people watch streams only because of stuff like that. But seeing Flashs first person is something really exciting for a lot people, including myself.

which makes me so sad...
me too, althou I have to say that it is very hard for me to apperciate the gameplay of a pro when I don't play the game on a high level my self

Well, Flash is basically the korean DemusliM with a few more weaknesses and a few less strengths.
Flash is a very strong player, but this is a stream, not a tournament. I'll take 2 examples so you guys understand what I meant earlier.
1. JD When JD announced he was going to stream, it was very hype. However, look at it now. He just plays some games, puts replays of the games, and that's all. WHICH IS FINE. However...
2. Let's look at Parting Parting AKA PartingBigBoy He knows enough english to communicate with chat, with other na players, to joke around and bm, etc. He's good enough to mess around against NA GMs and still win A few days ago he stream sniped avilo and it was glorious.
I dunno I just feel like korean players have so much potential but just playing games in silence is... not that exciting

Oh well I hate Parting's stream, he is too circlejerky, tries too hard to be cool, and so far the games I saw were boring (all in all day everyday!). For me those things I listed are great once in a while, it get's boring and annoying when he does it all the time.
So I guess some people enjoy some things and others others

I like seeing some trolling every now and then.
Also, I was watching his stream when he was diamond. YOu sure he wasn't all inning to get to GM fast?

Ah wow. Okay fair enough. Parting definitely alienates people with his antics
Hopefully we get both kind of people, who both do well. Just to note, I am personally enjoying flash play

I'm sure it's not his, I had this account tagged as "PRIME" somehow haha. Maybe Maru had streamed on it or something. There are like 2k games in Zerg/Protoss in the overall history of the account.
So, today was quite a shitty day. Just came home, slightly sad. Now I'm sitting here with a nice mug of coffee and some delicious german sausages to watch God stream. Life ain't that bad after all.

The fact that a players stream gets it's own thread, TL event, and is in the featured section normally reserved for tournaments/shows rather than an individual's stream. Honestly special treatment is lame

Bonjwa treatment, you can't force people to like someone and you can't stop them from being hyped as hell when a legendary player streams for the 2nd time, FlaSh does that to SC fans, although he is not my favorite player I don't see why it shuoldn't be done for him.

I'm done with you. Have fun spending your time here trying to prove your bullshit, I'm going to have fun watching Flash stream. Peace.

No rather I think I'm shitting on his over zealous fan base that has made this such a large event
And what is your problem exactly?
The fact that a players stream gets it's own thread, TL event, and is in the featured section normally reserved for tournaments/shows rather than an individual's stream. Honestly special treatment is lame

dude you're overthinking this, I would've missed 50% of Flash's streams if not for the Featured status. It's there just for that.

One can debate whether or not it's fair to give Flash special treatment, but by breaking 13k viewers in a time where anyone getting over 5k is exceedingly rare indicates a massive interest. Flash streaming is a very special event given how rare it is relative to the demand for it, and it's not likely that he'll be streaming again anytime soon or that he'd receive similar treatment if he did.
Pre weird to see Flash get beaten by someone online like that, kinda makes me nod my head a little as to why I stopped playing SC2 and probably never will again. Nice to see him stream though, everyone wants him to talk lol but I doubt he would be able to communicate that well to all the English fans which I'm sure are in the thousands of this current stream.

Wasn't that a few days later of that Razer add featuring HerO saying "unlike Protoss, Razer keyboards are not broken" or something like that?? hahah

you mean the fact that he can be beaten? Pretty sure his BW record was not quite 100% wins.

Back to your original question I've had a razer keyboard for over a year and it still works great. Plus I'm pretty heavy handed with my keyboards so it gets used heavily. Would recommend

Get over yourself, Flash wouldn't have had a 100% winrate if streaming was a thing in Brood War

That's true, but he would not have looked that bad vs anybody either, I think it's more the way he lost, than the winrate, that concerns BongChambers.

And he looked "that bad"? Why do certain people feel the need to find fault with everything these days is beyond my understanding. Naysayers everywhere, not just in SC2.

afaik he's (almost?) the only Korean Code S-level Terran to play that style vZ. Maybe that's part of why he lost that way?

I don't think he means that- it's just that it's true watching the game is kind of hard to swallow. Flash did basically non-stop harass, perfect macro, and the toss was just sitting on 2 base spamming photon overcharge, then moved out with a death ball of zealots, colossi and storm and nearly A moved into victory despite flash's insanely good micro. Seeing T vs P is such a very hard uphill battle. I think his comment was more towards the fact the he has lost faith over the balance of the game and hence doesn't like to watch it anymore.
Anyway it went over 14k I think a record has been broken :D

I can somewhat sympathise with both views here. It seems somewhat excessive to have a huge thread and a featured event and all of that. On the other hand Flash is a massively popular player and never, ever streams. So its something that people could easily miss and be upset at having missed out. So drawing attention to the fact he's streaming to this extent does seem somewhat warranted.
On balance though I think its probably for the best to publicise it like this. If only because of how many people would be disappointed to miss such a rare appearance.

Seems so. Each time i saw a pro play it's so fast that you can't really watch it (like JD) but it's really watchable here. The precision of the click... i'm sure a lot of other pros do it but i'm just so hyped :p

That would be around 20k with Stephano and Idra, but neither of those two could pull 15k now. If Flash had streamed back then he might've pulled 30k or more.

Bomber is strange that way. Bomber says he an older player with slower hands. Then he's 200/200 at 12:50.

he skips the multitask and safe play part to do that :D
Korean streams are generally boring because most can not speak English, which is only a problem because everyone you match is IIIIIIIIII. Flash is obviously a great player, but the only reason to watch is to see is how he prioritizes splitting dropping and macroing at the sametime. Also, maybe what information or lack of information he sees when reacting to the opponents build.
I pretty much stop playing sc2 because every gm or master i face on kr is a barcode but for like leenock... NA server streamers are more interesting because you know who they match, and every single barcode on NA can be distinguished within 6-8 minutes of a single game by their playstyle and micro/macro.
ban barcodes/make unique names = less hacking going unnoticed, more incentive to ladder, more exciting to watch games IMO.

I suppose if it was something that happened more often more pros would feel less inclined to stream
This is my humble attempt, got most of the stream, however the quality isn't what I'd hoped it to be. Apologies and I hope it is useful to some people!
Currently have a 2 hour direct capture of his stream in Source (H.264 1280x720 @ 60FPS) that's 1.57GB uploading to Mega that I'll post a link to in about 8 hours time when the upload finishes and I wake up if people are interested.
