I found this article today and thought I'd pass the information along since this will be the first event that anyone outside Gomtv has broadcast a Starcraft 2 event in Korea. I'm really excited about this happening and glad to see there is definitely a potential for more cooperation for future events so it's not all on Gomtv's back to bring Star 2 to the fans in and outside of Korea. Also cool the finals will be held in Busan.
I included the Korea Association of Starcraft 2 top 10 list also to help the translation along since I don't know how to relink in post. SlayerS isn't a member so they had separate registration for WCG event. Anyway this should be a good event. Let the restream's begin.

WCG 2011 StarCraft 2 online qualifiers will start on August 6.

WCG: Moon and Lyn to give up focus on StarCraft 2 Warcraft 3
In addition, FOX's Moon, Lyn and other Starcraft 2 and Warcraft 3 players alike because they are unable to participate in the WCG provides a number of events to give up to participate in StarCraft 2 qualifiers, and the choice of Warcraft 3.
Could someone translate this part properly please? Will moon and lyn be playing sc2, wc3, or both?

wtb a non google-translated article.

They will not do both. Just WC3 which disqualifies them from participating in Star 2 event.

Yeah I agree, needs a proper translation so we know whats actually going on lol

Edit: nvm! Thanks for translating

As far as I m reading this, Moon and Lyn are going to be playing WC3 because they are unable to sign up for the SC2 prelims, because they arent in one of the top 10 teams...? I duno, seems like a retarded system but it wouldnt surprise me ^_^!
I actually think they could probably sign up anyway, most likely, but they probably have better chances of winning the KR wc3 qualifiers? Although I dont know what kind of WC3 shape they are in.
EDIT: Or is the top 10 list completely unrelated? If so I dont get what its doing there.

That's what I'm interpreting based on above post o_O they are committed to sc2, I dont think you recognize their skill in wc3, they are able to go back and compete in wc3 without much practice, compared to the practice they need for results in sc2.

Moon and Lyn probably have a better shot qualifying for WCG WC3 anyways.
Jinro, did you try to qualify for WCG Sweden or was that already decided? Also, sexy Frozen Arbiter icon!
|
i would be surprised if either moon or lyn decide to do wc3 instead of sc2. theyre too deep in to regress back to wc3.
|
That top 10 list is already outdated

I put in in there since I can't link within the spoiler for the 14 year old's. I guess I should've wrote the player names in the OP instead of confusing people. :/

From what I gather, moon and lyn are not participating by their own choice, as they probably have a higher chance of winning WC3.
I tried to translate the article, here goes:
WCG: Moon and Lyn give up SC2 to focus on WC3
WCG South Korea has received registrations from the 9 teams of the Korean SC2 association, as well as Slayers (Including three 14 year old players on the rosters of the 10 professional teams). This edition of WCG Korea will be split into an online and an offline preliminary, to decide who gets the right to participate in WCG international.
This edition of WCG Korea will have 8 players who are seeds and can bypass the online preliminary to directly participate in the offline competition. The choosing of the 8 seeds will be based on using their results from SC2 tournaments to calculate the most fair rankings. Amateur players can register from 15 July through the official WCG website (Only masters league and above).
Besides, FOX's Moon, Lyn, and other WC3/SC2 hybrid players will not be able to participate in multiple competitions due to the rules and have chosen to give up SC2 in favour of WC3.
At the same time, Korean television station OnGameNet will broadcast the WCG Korea SC2 qualifiers from September onwards, this is also in accordance with KeSPA and Blizzard's reconciliation. This is the first time SC2 has been broadcasted by a channel other than GOMTV.
|
I guess it just means you can't compete in more than one game.
Just will like to add, DAMN that OP translation made my eyes bleed.
|
Yep, there will be match scheduling clashes if players participate in multiple games.
|
I see Huk's name in the oGs-TL roster. Would he be representing Korea if he were to undergo qualifications for WCG?
|
WCG is based on citizenship, which means you can only participate in the WCG qualifier of the country you hold citizenship in. So Huk could play in Canada WCG if he chooses to, but will be banned from Korea WCG.
|
To be honest i think moon and lyn have no chances to go on wcg even if they were able to sign fo kor quals. Its sad but they are not on this level yet. Will be happy to see what they will do in wc3 again. I think they dont forget anything because the game is far easier than sc2.

Hmmm 8 seeds? If its based on tournament performance my speculation is as follows:
Nestea MC Polt MVP MKP (won 2 FXO and 3 time GSL finalist) Bomber (won code A, good chance to win this GSL) MMA (MLG win and Super tournament final, plus amazing team league performance)
Unsure of the the final player, there are quite a few candidates: Puzzle & TOP(code A winners), DRG (team league performance, LG tournament winner and potential to win this MLG), hongun & byun(if they go further this GSL), Nada(consistency), Puma(NASL winner), July, losira.

Fyi that's not a 'top 10 list' of any kind, it's just the monthly published player rosters of the Korean SC2 team+player association

Don't get why KeSPA is in the title, when none of the OP's info is about KeSPA and the Korea Association of Starcraft 2 is clearly not KeSPA. Interesting turn of events for Moon, Lyn and other WC3 pros though....
Edit: Nvm, one line included KeSPA, probably still doesn't warrant KeSPA being in the title though.

this is a totally retarded system for moon & lyn -_-

uh, no it's not? they got given the choice of either sc2 or wc3 for wcg, and with more chances of winning wc3 thanks to literally zero people playing it now full-time outside of korea, i think they made the right choice.
|
Why aren't they sending SocceR...? It's not like he's performing well in SC2 for the practice time to matter. Moon won't be too rusty, and there's no Grubby to beat him.
I've been away from the scene for a while, is ReMinD still active? He'd be the clear favourite.

I want to say that I'm surprised that they're still playing WC3.
But at the same time I'm not. I do feel sorry for them though, not being able to compete in both.

In a perfect world it should be possible to participate in WCG / Olympic games in multiple disciplines.

Anyway if there is a wc3 qualifier for korean places, i cant see moon/lyn getting top 3 (since ReMinD as you mentioned, is still very active.. along with focus and even soccer still posting results), 4th/5th sure, and i guess their chances of causing an upset once to qualify is better than their chances to cause many upsets/get sent playing sc2.. For me, i doubt they (lyn/moon) make the international finals for either game this year.

I was really hoping that i sleep could fit into my schedule, but it looks like imma have to tell it to piss off like seriously, between trying to pay attention to the US/ EU scene since my friends stay interested in the foreigner scene, and watching the priority matches (which is of course koreans) i spend a lot of time on sc streams.... and i haaave to watch this.
Really awesome for the players though. Glad to see they have some more opportunities without having to fly overseas. Also hope to see more foreigners coming up to korea, since it's a little less risky to be able to play in multiple tourneys.
overall, great news

When is this happening, by the way?
Will we have an official stream to watch?

WCG 2011 StarCraft 2 online qualifiers will start on August 6.
I'm gonna watch it on OGN and restream it if nobody else is.
|
they will do very well in this wcg i belive, hardly any competion left out there
|
Will there be a stream for Warcraft at WCG on teamliquid?
Moon,Lyn and Soccer are 'Warcraft III players' from WMF.. I am not surprised they chose warcraft over starcraft since they're paid to play that game and I'm pretty sure they love that game.
Just because Lyn and moon are badass in sc2 you guys think moon and lyn are not practicing wc3 anymore. According to an interview Moon still plays sc2 and wc3 parallel. ( dreamhack )
They will just choose to compete warcraft 3 at wcg rather than sc2. Everything is still the same. ( F.United won't be hurt that much since they're playing both games now and they're pretty good )
Although I'm pretty sad not seeing Moon playing Sc2 at WCG. I don't know how he is in Warcraft III but there must be a reason people call him 'The Fifth Race' and i guess I'll see why. I know Moon from Starcraft II and am a big fan of him because of his Starcraft II play.
Go Moon!

Wow. Three 14 year olds and even one 13 year old.

This was a tournament with a lot of the top players (Including Grubby, Lyn and Moon) who are now playing Starcraft 2.
It is casted by RotterdaM (Now casts SC2 on ESL.tv) and ToD (One of the best WC3 players in history).

Really looking forward to the SC2 and WC3 games!

We all knew Moon would be playing WC3 at WCG, nothing could stop him from attending the prelims. It's the one major title he's missing and he's said he's not satisfied until he had won it.
|
Can someone give me names of the favorites to win this Warcraft III [WCG]? Going to watch all their replays in the past 2 months.
Yeah, I watched Grubby Vs Moon finals ( wcg ) and Moon very sad.
|
Didn't know that Moon is still playing WC3 while he was participating in foreign tournaments. :/
|
Virtually every wc3 EU pro has switched over to SC2 already. I'm just guessing that wc3 would probably stick around in wcg for perhaps another 2 years. This is perhaps Moon's last chance to redeem his one lacking achievement.
|
If people are wondering about the shape of moon and lyn on wc3, don't worry. If anything SC2 has helped them.
WC3 is soooo slow paced compared to SC2.
|
since i still love war3 aloooot more than sc2. Moon and lyn decided to play wc3 over sc2 made me really feel goood.

Good move by Moon and Lyn imo.

I tried to translate the article, here goes:
WCG: Moon and Lyn to give up SC2 to focus on WC3
WCG South Korea has received registrations from the 9 teams of the Korean SC2 association, as well as Slayers (Including three 14 year old players on the rosters of the 10 professional teams). This edition of WCG Korea will have be split into an online and an offline preliminary, to decide who gets the right to participate in WCG international.
Hmmm 8 seeds? If its based on tournament performance my speculation is as follows: Nestea MC Polt MVP MKP (won 2 FXO and 3 time GSL finalist) Bomber (won code A, good chance to win this GSL) MMA (MLG win and Super tournament final, plus amazing team league performance) Unsure of the the final player, there are quite a few candidates: Puzzle & TOP(code A winners), DRG (team league performance, LG tournament winner and potential to win this MLG), hongun & byun(if they go further this GSL), Nada(consistency), Puma(NASL winner), July, losira. i'm 99.9% sure they will just take the top 8 of the gsl ranking. Who are they? 1. MVP 2. Nestea 3. MC 4. MKP 5. Polt 6.Nada 7. July 8. San
+ Show Spoiler +Losira and Byun can still make the top 8 with a good finish this season since they are both in the semifinals. Edit::: Originally I said Losira would make it with a top 2. This is incorrect. He and Byun would both have to win this season's GSL to make top 8, so yes, HoseoSan who isn't even in the GSL will probably be a seed Nestea will most likely move to #1 after this GSL, although he would have to win it in order to receive enough points. He is ~3000 behind MVP. 1st place awards 5000 points. second place awards 2499
The GSL ranking system seems pretty good, but its really skewed at the top. Since San made 2 final 4s hes still way up there. Anypro almost made it to number 8 but hes like 15 points behind. Jinro is still ranked 12.
some other names on the list 11. TOP 13. sC 14. MMA 16. Hongun (I guess he could technically make it in too) 18. Losira 22. Byun 42. Bomber 48. idrA (lol) Unranked. DRG

EDIT: I understand it now

So is there going to be a proper English stream? :S

WCG is supposed to be like the Olympics. You can only qualify by playing your own country's qualifier. So HuK should either be participating in the Canadian or US qualifier and Jinro in the Swedisch qualifier. That's how WCG always worked or have there been exceptions ><?

yeh i was always under that impression, if you cant make it to your own country then tough...
EDIT: Actually relaised this is just the teams top 10 lists and nothing to do with actually going to qualify??? So they probably do have to qualify at their own countries qualification!!!

Eww, Chinese source.
The stuff about KeSPA isn't on any Korean sources, just noting. The chinese people added that on just cause they felt like it, cause this is based off the TIG source as far as i can tell

Is it just me or is it shocking that WC3 will be in WCG this year? I could have sworn it was announced it was dropped officially by WCG. When did this change back? Good news, and last year's (Remind) was amazing.

You can add grubby to that list, high chance he will qualify out of the Netherlands.
|
Netherlands won't have WC3 qualifiers this year, only SC2 and FIFA so, no Grubby for WC3. I really doubt Moon and Lyn would manage to get top 3 in Korean qualifiers. It'll be more like: 1st-ReMinD, 2nd-FoCuS, 3rd-SocceR. Despite playing UD, even Lucifer and Believe have higher chances than Lyn and Moon, in my opinion.

I actually think they could probably sign up anyway, most likely, but they probably have better chances of winning the KR wc3 qualifiers? Although I dont know what kind of WC3 shape they are in.
EDIT: Or is the top 10 list completely unrelated? If so I dont get what its doing there.
I know it's not related to the topic but your arbiter icon is sweet.
It's a shame if Moon/Lyn won't be playing. I don't quite understand the top 10 teams system for two reasons:
1) Why limit people to having to be on a team? It made sense for NASL, so people can be 'held accountable' for attendance, but not for WCG.
2) What determines a top 10 team? There's no global ranking system that determines team standing or pits teams against each other (no, GSTL doesn't count, considering foreign teams can't regularly compete in that.)
|
makes sense to me. im sure we wont see moon in GSL for a while. they just arent that great in SC2 and WC3 is like guranteed money for them
|
People need to remember that Moon, Lyn, Soccer are contracted WC3 players, they are allowed to play sc2 because there isnt the tournaments for WC3. Maybe when moons contract is up next year he will officially give up WC3 but until then he HAS to play in large WC3 tournaments like WCG.
Moon said it best when he said "I’m not a SC2 player, however a WC3 player." in an interview last year. I honestly think that moon would do a lot better if he was allowed to devote all of his time to sc2 but he isnt.

(As a side note, I think the international Swedish team is gonna be INCREDABLY strong, maybe even as good as Korea after T-Zain, Sase, and Naniwa train up in Korea. I could see Sweden's best even beating Korea's best at WCG)
