Big things are happening at MLG Columbus. A stacked field of talent from all over the world will be in attendance, going toe-to-toe in three days of the most intense StarCraft 2 action imaginable. Thanks to our groundbreaking League Exchange Program with the GSL, four top Korean competitors will be joining Pool Play to meet up with former MLG Champions, top players, and the rising stars of the North American and European scenes. How will we ever be able to bring it all to you? It’s easy. We’re doubling the streams. Two StarCraft 2 Streams at MLG Columbus
At an MLG Pro Circuit Competition, there’s a lot going on at once. At MLG Columbus, a total of 24 players will compete in Pool Play throughout Friday and Saturday, and the Open Bracket will have well over 200 players. It’s a lot to show, and we’re going to bring you as much of it as possible.
Stream 1 The first StarCraft 2 stream will air nothing but Main Stage matches. A selection of the tournament’s top matches will be chosen to air on the Main Stage. Main Stage matches for the first StarCraft 2 stream will be chosen in advance, and we will be publishing a detailed schedule shortly.
Stream 2 The second StarCraft 2 stream will air matches from the MLG Feature Stations. Everything from Pool Play to epic Open Bracket showdowns takes place on the Feature Stations, and we will be streaming the action throughout the weekend.
The Saturday and Sunday schedules for the Feature Station stream depend on what happens in the brackets. On Friday, the Feature Station stream will be airing Pool Play—and you will have the chance to vote on which matches are streamed. Polls will open soon; keep an eye on the site for the announcement.
We will also be bringing you interviews and featured coverage of the Event, but no matter what, there will always be a StarCraft 2 match playing on at least one of the streams. And every single streamed match, on both streams, will have full commentary. How many casters does it take to cover two constant streams full of three days of action? Five. Five of the best in the world.
Tasteless and Artosis Join the Lineup
We are incredibly excited to announce that, thanks to the League Exchange Program with the GSL, we are able to add two of the most legendary casters in the business to the MLG Pro Circuit lineup. In cooperation with GOMTV and the GSL, we have arranged for Tasteless and Artosis to take a break from their GSL casting duties in order to join the MLG broadcasts live in Columbus, and we couldn’t be more excited to have them. With their unique style and their years of dedication to the world of StarCraft 2, they are an incredible addition to the proceedings, and we can’t wait to see them in action in Columbus.
The duo will be joined by MLG’s veteran casting team: Day[9], DJ Wheat, and JP McDaniel. These three casters have been providing us with their expertise since StarCraft 2 made its debut on the Pro Circuit, and we are honored to have them back with us. The two teams will provide commentary all weekend long, taking turns on the Main Stage and Featured Station streams.
We have made an extensive array of changes and improvements to the streams themselves, and to the experience you'll have as both a spectator and a stream viewer; we'll be bringing you those details in a separate announcement.
The best players from all over the world. The best casters in the business. More action and more streams than ever before. MLG Columbus is almost here; are you ready? Come out and see all the action in person, or test yourself against the best; spectator passes and are on sale now.

HELLZ YEAH I AM. This is fantastic news. It seems like you guys have fixed the streaming problems of the last event too! Really looking forward to this, good luck with the rest of the tourney!!!
Hopefully with Tasteless and Artosis going to America for a few days Jason Lee will take over the Super Tournament and hold the GSL fort down while they are gone.
That's some awesome news ! I hope the streams hold up though now that there's twice the amount to stream out (with presumably the same kind of shitty internet at the venue?).

this is an absolutely awesome addition
there were so many times where there were non-main stage matches that were more interesting than the main stage matchup imo.

whooooooo HYPED! this is really cool but it would have been cooler if this was kept under tighter wraps. i am stoked for this though, it's really cool.
It seems that MLG is listening to the community and looking at other leagues for examples. It felt like all of the past MLG events have been focused for the players and the local audience instead of the for the stream viewers. This news says that they are now aiming at the stream viewers. MLG Columbus should be their best event yet!

I hope we can change that this time around and for Columbus you can publicly go bonkers.
Very awesome news. It is interesting to see how the Halo players react to all of the StarCraft love MLG is giving us. Once the prize pool is a bit bigger for the non championship event it will become a very complete league. One step at a time MLG you are almost there!
Epic news for sure. Super happy to see MLG taking the community into consideration so heavily. Great choice on casters also, literally all of my favourite casters in one spot... my internets might explode. Thanks again, MLG.

gsl takes a short break due to mlg
The break is only 2 days. friday and saturday. As such atleast thursday and monday, people will be traveling. But as GSL has 2 caster teams, the natural choice would be moletrap and doa taking some the days tasteless and artosis is not there... No idea to bring in new temp casters..
With all these amazing updates from MLG, I'm going to have to buy more pairs of pants. Does this mean we might have a chance to see the brothers Plott casting together?
Wow, insane news. More SC2 coverage and Tastosis? That's pretty awesome. I hope it works out well. I'm pretty sure I know what I'm doing that weekend. At least one stream with a match on means I'll be stuck in my seat.
This is fantastic. Will all five casters be swapping around (Wheat & Artosis, JP & Tasteless, etc.) or will it just be the duo on one stream and the usual lineups on the other?
Already doing a great job making up for Dallas though.
Holy crap. It's like Sundance sat down and asked, what can I do to make this tournament the most credible legit SC2 tournament possible... and then did all those things.
MLG really did everything they could to learn and improve from the mistakes of the last MLG. 2 constant sc2 streams and additonal to that we get to see tastosis as well.. cant get any better after this

They better be hoping for at least 200k viewers, we can't have a repeat of what happened at Dallas.

Woooow this is gonna be so awesome, Weekend=BLOWN. One can only hope the stream holds up this time. If it does, I will spend my life savings on MLG passes and merchandise for this reason alone.
Dude, these guys are really trying hard to do things right, so pumped about MLG now.
Getting Artosis and Tasteless to commentate is the best thing MLG and any other tournament could possibly do. Thanks to that they have my money this time.
W O W!!! You guys at MLG are basically having everything that makes up a SC2 tournament ever. Except maybe Boxer, but I am sure that will be fixed in the next one ;D.
Im still sceptical, i was super pumped for the last MLG and i ended up watching an eagle instead. So im trying not to get my hopes up to much this time around. Awesome news tho! :>

actually the Halo players/crowd love StarCraft, its just that the SC ppl hate on em lol.
Omg this is going to be the best MLG ever brought a tear to my eye, I really cannot wait for the opening show and having both streams open at the same time . Shame I need to revise for exams though, but no way in hell am I missing the Opening with all these guys :') <3.
Man I love MLG so much right now followed them for years, so glad to see them becoming so big.
If MLG keeps improving like this, I may actually begin to take it seriously again. With all the other leagues these days I haven't really been paying attention to MLG at all, especially given the fiasco with Dallas last time. If they can get the streams to be stable, I may actually buy a HD Pass again.
Ah this is making this MLG sound like its going to be the best one yet. Good to see they are fixing their lack of games at times so this is awesome news :D
This event has so much potential. I cannot describe how excited I am about this. Even if they have some technical issues again, as long as one stream is up and they rotate casters around, it should be tons of fun.
Anybody else sick of day 9? I liked him casting at first, but hes becoming increasingly pompous while he casts not really adding anything to his cocasters comments. Just goes off on a tangent.

Tastosis is a welcome addition.
game 7 yesterday, day 9 was awesome! he made it more epic too!
The SC2 community is sometimes like a woman in menopause. Up and down, from murder to love in a blink.
This is great news, but this time I will need to see something before I belive the hype. I have already learned that MLG knows how to promote, now I want them to also deliver.
So I will keep the tears until the opening match stream day, and hope this will be a great show.

On May 17 2011 05:23 UnholyRai wrote: JP is a great guy and i love him on state of the game but is he needed as a caster now?
he seems surplus to requirements when you look at the calibre of casters around him in that lineup.
JP does a lot more than cast for us at events and online. He will be doing interviews as always, he will be casting in relief for both streams as well as consulting both streams. He is an amazing caster, knows the game and players well. He is absolutely needed in more ways than you guys know. These 5 guys are my absolute dream lineup and I am honored to work with them all.
We'll be addressing the issues from Dallas and what we're doing to control those variables in an upcoming post. Not announcing an announcement here, but just letting everyone know that there will be a detailed response on that front. Still finalizing a few details, so that part will be out in the next few days.
Also want to give a shout out to @MLGBen for working his ass off to pull this particular piece of news together. There's a lot of folks at @MLG busting ass. Tasteosis was his baby.
RE: Caster mix/max. Look for the official schedule in the coming week. We WILL be mixing them up, but we also want to make sure that the casting teams everyone is so familiar with get to cast together.
Does anybody know if they are joining the MLG caster lineup for the whole 2011 circuit or just for Columbus? Sorry if it was posted and I misread or something.
Good news. I hope they don't do something awkward like the triple-caster thing at Blizzcon last year as it didn't work well at all. It would be really nice to get a proper pre/post-game studio for the finals with those that are not doing the actually commentary.

Holy... they're really fighting hard to make sure the competition remains the heart of the event, though I still think the relay race might be funnier to watch.
With Day9 and Artosis casting together, the game could be bronze level and still entertaining. All this adds up to an amazing MLG and that makes me so fucking sad that im busy that weekend=[

Nice cherry-picked quotes. Basically the only 2 negative comments in that thread thus far. Zaii is right, though - almost everyone I've seen comment about SC2 from the Halo community is supportive. You can always find a few folks who aren't, but that doesn't make it the majority opinion by any means.

Its pretty fun and fast paced not so much for Reach, but H2 and H3 were amazing spectator sports. Especially with clutch headshots and kills. The ability to make huge come backs made it very impressive too. Reach however is a bit meh and slow paced.
Soundproof booths and headphones, increased audience room, Tastosis, HD stream by an external company, Korean participants, two streams, and the ability to vote on which match to watch? Mind blown.
i'm pretty sure mlg cbus had a total of 1.2 million unique viewers from all 3 games (halo, sc, and cod) combined. i'm sure a majority of those viewers were for sc2. i guestimate halo peaked at 3k viewers at one time and cod peaked at 1k viewers at one time.

The only MLG fail right now is that there is no link to buy a HD pass /right now/ on their website. Because I got so hyped that I went over there to try to get a HD pass and couldn't.

A few quotes from Halo players on mlg forum "starcraft this.......starcraft that........what about halo? seriously, mlg you guys are selling out. how about you start getting things right for halo with settings and maps. get things right with cod by getting it on xbox. seriously selling out. "
"thats not fair at all. halo made mlg. without halo mlg wouldnt exist. sc2 is a new addition and its already getting so many upgrades. upgrades that halo should've gotten years ago. how can you expect growth for halo, without making any adjustments?"
I am not sure they feel exactly the way you think they do.
Well from those quotes I would say they are jealous. Obviously SC2 is growing fast and Halo is not.
Uniqe views should be around atleast 1-1,5 million for Colombus, with Dreamhack Stockholm inv. having +450 000 viewers. I wonder how many will be watching halo.
The right question is how can you watch halo? It has zero observation value. No observer mode just jumping from guy to guy showing hits from beyond visual range with targets automarked.
Its pretty fun and fast paced not so much for Reach, but H2 and H3 were amazing spectator sports. Especially with clutch headshots and kills. The ability to make huge come backs made it very impressive too. Reach however is a bit meh and slow paced.
Yeah, Reach sucks but Halo CE, H2 and to some extent H3 were quite entertaining. Starcraft 2 is still way more awesome though
CE was - and still is - awesome. People still lan it regularly almost 10 years on.
Well, I'm going to have to fucking drive 9 hours now. Thanks Dan and Nick. Obviously I'm excited, and now I have to go, there is no other way. See you guys there.
Yay, two streams. One of the biggest problems with last MLG (not counting stream problems) was that often times the commentators were waiting for a game to join, and so they had to fill the time with banter. With two streams this isn't too bad for the viewers, as it's way more likely for at least one team to be showing a game.
A bit off-topic I guess, but it'll be awkward to compare quality of casting with the two duo's: Day[9]/DJWheat & Tastosis.

Two streams and amazing casters lined up, sounds great. What would impress me more though is if it can be done without massive technical problems. I look forward to this future announcement.

sweet mother of god, there is more to come? i am so hyped!!
So the last mlg couldnt get 1 stream to work correctly for a majority of it. Now its trying to get 2 streams up simultaneously without having there system crash. Just be ready to hear all the sc2 fans cry out when the stream "inexplicably" crashes on day 1.
yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaah watsup MLG! I cant believe it, 2 f'ing streams. MLG is gonna be sick if they get everything to work. That is one weekend where I wont be doing much else :D

Thats why i didnt want my money back for MLG Dallas <3 !
TASTOSIS ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !! ! ! ! ! ! !! ! ! ! !! The best casting combo, casting the best NA event? yes please.
Definitely looking forward to MLG Colombus, after reading what the MLG staff said about technical & streaming issues, I'm confident that this is goin to be the best MLG event to date.
that`s Huge. The second stream is really cool, since the mainstage-stream will always have pauses when players set up to play. *press thumbs for everything to work as planed*
Wow. I'm going to have to support MLG by buying their HQ stream ticket. I trust them to do well with that this time around, as I see how incredibly dedicated they are towards E sports... simply AMAZING.
Also, props to GOMTV for the awesome team work they're doing. I'm so hyped for E sports right now!!!!!!
i almost feel like MLG is doing a double or nothing approach to the last failed event. it's awesome because im confident they will pull off the double.
My brain is going to blow up because of all the awesomeness, dual stream ? FUCK YEAH. Tasteless and artosis and day9 and wheat ? Most likely the high point of that month :D
What has kept MLG from being as awesome as for example the GSL has for me been the caster department(, no hate just personal preference). With Tastosis I am REALLY looking forward to MLG Columbus.
This is super exciting news I can't wait to see the production quality. I know that Halo isn't what it used to be as their flagship and I'm glad they are rearing Starcraft into an awesome monster.
The dual stream is pretty awesome - it is almost as exciting as the Casting Archon making their way to MLG! If MLG can overcome the broadcasting issues - they will have a world class tournament
I've had my issues with MLG in the past...but I gotta say, they've won me over easy with this move. Heh, Tasteless and Artosis are the main reason I watch GSL (okay not the main reason but they're at least 50% of the reason). With them at MLG and possibility of a Tasteless/Artosis with Day[9] or DJ Wheat...I'm dying in anticipation.
Wow That's awesome! MLG really wants redeem themselves this time.
On May 17 2011 04:59 MLG Deimos wrote: ...thanks to the League Exchange Program with the GSL, we are able to add two of the most legendary casters in the business to the MLG Pro Circuit lineup.

Looking forward to seeing everyone at Columbus!
Since Tastosis are coming to MLG do intend to borrow any of MLG casters (wink* Day9*) to GSL? :O
On May 17 2011 07:24 elsrickle wrote: As many have mentioned, if MLG can provide a solid stream this will be an amazing tourny.
It'll be more than that. It will be insanely important since EU and KR has already shown its quality offline tournaments. This could possibly put NA and MLG in a very good spot and also increase the overall experience of global esports.

If it does work then I count on my computer overheating at the sound of Tastosis TT
That's okay. If it goes down it'll just give me more time to refill my nachos, grab another drink, do the laundry, do some nerd exercises, and all the other myriad of things that tastosis recommends we do in between breaks!
this is awesome news. MLG is uppin their game! i pray they do at least one Plott brothers cast, it has been my SC-life-long dream to watch day9 and tasteless cast together!
I don't think it's possible to make amends any more completely than MLG has. Just non-stop homeruns from that team ever since Dallas. I mean, if they improve this much between one stop on the tour, where will they be in a couple years? I mean, it's phenomenal. Congrats and thank you to all of the fine MLG staff for your tireless work.

JP said on SC Center one of the combinations will be Day9 and Tasteless together.
Glad to see MLG getting their shit together. I will definitely need to tune in and watch. Now I just need to devise some type of awesome drinking game as this is right after my last final of college...
DJWheat has good character and he stumbles just as much as Artosis and Tasteless (in fact, both of them stumble a lot still). Same could be said about Day and Chill (watch the last TSL3 finals and you'll know what I'm talking about). I still remember Wheat casting WCG and Tasteless saw the opportunity to help him out. The rest is history.
Sure, DJWheat might not be the most knowledgeable guy, but he's a big fan of gaming period and he's always looking for ways to improve. The guy's been around commentating since the beginning of western e-sports, so cut the man some slack. The guy paid his dues more than anyone else. I've had my fair share to say to him as the next guy. You earn your stripes. DJWheat has earned his.
soo sad i backed out on this mlg. :[ I'll be buying the stream fosho though. Great improvements from MLG. I can't wait to see what else is in store for us this season!

it already has. sc2 national champ gets 50 k. halo gotta split 100k between 4 players. 2 streams for sc2, thats twice the presentation of halo. hell, they'll probably get two main stages for sc2 next year. lol
Sounds good and all but every pre-mlg we get all kinds of hype promises. Let's just see if we can watch 1 of the 2 streams. Hoping for things to go smoothy this time around. Great to have Tastosis.

Well you should definitely have alcohol ready for MLG weekend, too.
I really think that MLG needs a guy in front of a huge friggin Tournament bracket showin' us the latest matchups--in previous MLG's none of the caster's had any friggin idea the current state of the tournemnt, they only knew what the CURRENT match-up was...
5 Awesome casters?! SWEET! that means they can probably have some on-the-field-interviews and such, much like other pro-sports....
I can't wait.
But I guess I'll have to, I mean, it's not 'til June, right?
Man, this is going to be really awesome now, they just keep fixing the problems to make it better and better each time. This is really getting cool for the whole eSports thing
Columbus is shaping up to be possibly the best tournament of the year, 4 sick korean players, 5 sick commentators, plus the normal excellent play at mlg? WHY CAN'T THIS BE NOW, I WANT IT.
On a side note, I wonder if tastosis will only cast together, or if they'll get people mixed and matched.

It's such a HUGE EFFING TIME SINK to sit and try to watch their live stream. Very few games per hour even when they are NOT suffering technical problems. I mean really, instead of talking about how great the games are for 2 hours and then showing one. SHOW! MORE! GAMES!

Two streams this time, you should be able to have quite a bit less time with no games on either stream. Although the amount of games show at Dallas was way way low, I think you might be being a little to pessimistic.
On May 17 2011 10:28 SgtPepper wrote: Wow, after the complete disaster that was MLG Dallas it seems like they are working really hard to make up for it in Columbus.
Right on MLG!
A little tastosis will make any internet issues a lot more tolerable
All very exciting. I've bought the HD pass before and been disappointed, but I'll give them one last chance since this is a huge step in the right direction. The best MLG experience I've had so far (sadly) was watching Halo on G4 in 2007. I'd love to see it on TV again, especially now that they've got a game that, in my opinion, better lends itself to casting/spectating.
Even though you guys gave me a free copy of the HD pass for this event you could still charge me infinity dollars and I would pay it to see these 5 cast an event. Hope Idra will take it home!

I hope Tastosis don't just cast with eachother. Dan and Wheat would be a good combo.
And i don't want any 3 man casting teams. The Blizzcon one was kinda painful, as each guy seemed to just be taking turns getting their shit in, and as far as actual game commentary went it was pretty difficult to enjoy once you got past the "OMG PLOTT BROTHER AND ARTOSIS TOGETHER AWESOME" thing.

Anyone know what times it will be on?
I remember watching prior MLGs from NZ during the day time so provided you don't work 9-5 you should be fine. It was during the day and they usually ran late. Actually it might start fairly early. like 6am kinda thing for you. Don't take my word for it though =/

JP already confirmed that Day9 and Tasteless would cast together some, so i assume they are going to be switching them around.
Why does my sister have to be getting married June 4th? I live in Columbus and was super hyped about MLG before I ever even heard about the GSL/MLG program... I am going to miss everything now (
Considering that Tastosis are going to MLG as part of the GSL/MLG deal, does this mean that at some point Day[9] and the other MLG casters may be casting GSL at some point? (After all, Day[9] IS in Korea atm)

MLG, if you can guarantee this time a stable coverage without any problems (hicks at MLG Dallas...) I am happy to buy a ticket for your premium stream!
I am more excited to have 2 starcraft2 streams and finally being able to see more games during MLG then who is casting it, but it will be fun to have quality casters on both streams as well.

awesome!, I had a feeling this was coming considering the timing of the announcement of the mlg/gsl cooperation, regardless i'm starting to get pumped for mlg now
Well, this is great news and I'm hoping the SC2 scene will develop further in that direction so that in the future we might have big tournaments with medium length (1-2 weeks max) all around the world and the whole pro circuit following it. Kinda like they do it in tennis or golf.
they obviously know they fucked up badly last time so they're trying to make up for it. Still reckon they'll have 2 streams showing 2 different angles of the crowd -_-
also day9 >>> tastosis but i think day9 and tasteless will be awesome together
Will both stream 1 and stream 2 be free or will it require HD pass? If it's free it could be a good idea for MLG to bring in more money if HD pass was required for the second stream. (poor sentence)
Since I can't personally attend, I will be buying HD pass, and hopefully have someone there to snag autographs of as many SC2 people as they can....
*EDIT*
This guy hurts my head..
As a console gamer I truly feel like this is the beginning of MLG forgetting its roots. Two streams for SC2? I know its a big game worldwide, but IDK if if deserves two streams...
I am really glad MLG is investing to improve their starcraft product. Hopefully with the addition of Tastosis and a second stream, we will have more games to watch.
I must say this news saddens me a bit. I just moved out of Ohio last month and am living a few thousand miles away now. Why couldn't MLG Columbus have happened sooner? Otherwise, should be a blast to watch if I can catch any of the streams in my new time zone.

Hopefully tasteless and artosis get a lot of air time together, I really don't wanna see JP+whatever, JP is great with his interviews and inbetween the games snippits but as far as casting goes, meh. And I would like to maybe see DJ Wheat thrown in between tastosis but for some reason I didn't like day9 mixed in there. Watched blizzcon and it wasn't that appealing. I'm surprised they haven't announced any solution to the streaming difficulties in the past. I'm perpetually surprised by the usage of JP. His speech impediment is mildly distracting, and I'm curious what the reasons for his selection are.
On the other hand, I find the other casters to be exceptional. I'm really looking forward to this, if the stream works out. I fear they may be unprepared due to people waiting until the last minute to purchase HD passes.

Other then the MLG I competed at I've never been anticipating an event more then I am Columbus after the announcement of the dual stream and TASTOSIS! Hoping to be home watching the event in it's entirety. DAY9 and TASTOSIS what more could you ask from a commentator standpoint?
After the relative fail issues from Dallas, this is a great way to get the hype up, stacked pool play and casters with dual streams. Epic tourney inc. There had better be a day9 tasteless duo at some point.
