As you guys all know MLG Dallas is just around the corner and there is a lot of potential for interesting stories. I’m just wondering what are your guy’s top 3 predictions for MLG Dallas?

Mine are

1. Huk wins MLG
2. Idra Team kills EG
3. Someone in the tournament goes on and plays 10 rounds in the loser’s bracket and makes it to the Finals.

I’d like to hear yours.

I doubt Huk wins the whole thing.
He's certainly capable of it but don't forget he has to fight his way through the marathon better known as the open bracket first.
my predictions:
1. Tyler
2. Idra
3. Kiwikaki

I think Huk is absolutely not going to win it. It's awesome that he's going to attend, but stuff like jetlag + no time to prepare and a the enormous open bracket makes his chances slim.

My money is on Socke. If Socke doesn't win, then someone else from his group will (Idra or Kiwikaki).

InControl will teamkill Machine.

Also: Lesser-known player will make a name for themselves with an epic run through the open bracket.

Finally: Someone will have a sexy new XvP build that the forums will be all abuzz about, and dominate the ladder for like a week.

Huk will MURDER people in the open brackets and go on to do really really far in the ternoment giveing hope to all that you really can climb the mountain and make it to the pro status in america in one weekend of glory

Idra will be shut out and he will become so angry at everything he will brood by himself for the next month until he will come back with a crazy new style and win everything :D and then get cheesed in the finals :D

Expecting end results to show good performance out of Tyler and Team EG with Euro Toss players suppressing a lot of people that have something to prove. Cool guys like Destiny will ultimately fail, but be given exponentially more credit than necessary for winning 2-3 games.

I predict Naniwa and Tyler going deep. HuK seems to be slumping recently, and so has Idra. If they play at their best they should be the favorites.

Tyler is who I'd like to see win to, I think he'd be a great face for the NA scene. Also could def snipe Koreans in international tourneys...one of the most talented guys around.

I say Huk gets roflstomped in the open bracket for +5 to huge anticlimax. Idra and Socke get 1st and 2nd in their groups.

Hopefully tyler just starts winning everything.

Also would love to see another epic run through the tournament as those are amazing stories at how someone played 85 bajillion games and all went to 3rd games.

Socke Grand Champion!

Socke vs Select Grand Finals

Select coming from Loser's Finals after beating Tyler

I've been following Socke for awhile and the guy just knows what he has to do to win when it's crunch time. I believe he'll beat Kiwi in PvP, Idra in PvZ, and Gretorp in PvT. Come out 1st in his group and just cruise from there. The only trouble I see him facing is if he runs into Tyler in the Winner's Semi-Finals. Which is entirely possible if Tyler comes out 1st in his group. I really only see these two losing to each other in PvP and no one else. Should be interesting.

I predict no terrans in the top 3, the "heavy weights" (tyler, ret, idra) will not impress and incontrol will not reach top 8.

I don't think it's fair to start making predictions about MLG. The reason I say this is because there are only a small number of seated players and a huge number of unseated players who are also good, so it's impossible to predict. Look at the previous MLGs and how so much can happen over the course of a weekend. It isn't like the GSL where the pool is closed to only a few select people and predictions can be made due to meta.

This isn't like previous MLG's, they've changed the format and you really need to read up on it. The way that MLG made this format makes it a very, very, very, very small possibility of someone winning this who isn't in the top 16. If you don't have the top 4 spots in the Open Tournament to make it into pool play, you can pretty much kiss any hopes of winning goodbye. The gauntlet you would have to run makes it a certainty that you will drop a series just on fatigue alone in the "Championship Bracket".

1. Naniwa
2. Idra
3. Tyler
4. Ret

Axslav, sockeh, cruncher, and lzgamer will have top 8 finishes.
InControl will barely make top 16.
Sjow will make top 16.
Kiwikaki and Huk will also make top 16, the rest of the top 16 may be players like painuser, drewbie, Haypro, machine or strifecro, and probably several lesser known players like those from sixjax or vvv.
Fenix will lose 2-0 to the first competent Protoss he plays.
QXC will lose 2-0 to either ret or Idra.
Athene will not make an appearance.
Avilo will accomplish nothing.
Torch will have an early exit.
Destiny will crash and burn.

Only 4 seeded players have a "for sure" chance of making it to the Championship bracket, the other 12 have the potential to be killed off by the Open bracket players who made it into the top 16, which can include a lot of really good people.

I'm not saying that the seeded players aren't going to go and win Dallas, but I just wanted to highlight that there are a lot of good players in the open bracket. To disregard them is stupid and foolish.

I'm predicting a jolly good time.

I'm hoping Tyler owns it up, and I hope Cruncher gets knocked out of the open bracket within the first couple rounds.

Other than that, any epic games would be great. ^^

It's fascinating how many people are calling Tyler to win. He's a gentleman and a scholar but so far has shown next to no results in SC2. And I doubt its because he hasnt been trying his best.

I wonder how people would see Tyler as a player if he wasn't on SOTG.

PvP finals, id say:
1. Socke
2. Kiwikaki
Than some skilled zerg:
3. Idra/Ret (whoever gets lucky to dodge PvZ)

And i cant get why some of you rank Naniwa so high, hes onebasejoe still isnt he?
the game changes as you get higher

- Idra loses to a protoss.
- Ret/Tyler/Naniwa place top 5.
- Big name protosses fall to PvP (as standard in every tourny)

I will be cheering Grubby and Huk. and tyler ofc.

Top 4: Tyler, Socke, Naniwa, Kiwikaki

Semis and finals have an average game length of 12 minutes. Each player says in interviews that PvP is their weakest matchup.

HuK hasn't shown anything impressive as of late.
I think the 5 best players there in terms of skill are IdrA, Ret, Naniwa, Tyler (he's been really stepping it up) and then maybe Select? Idk, he doesn't appear in a lot of tournaments as of late, but he always does good whe he does

Then again, with the current metagame, and the huge solid protoss player count, I could easily see a repeat of MLG Raleigh (with like protoss in the top x positions or whatever)

Idra will not win. He is sometimes too confident to practice enough to allow him to actually take a win. I personnally am a huge Idra fan however I am unsure if he will be prepared for this, His current mindset on ZvP will be his downfall because he will lose to a terran which he has not practiced enough against.

I believe if Skew is going to be there, he is going to win if not him I believe some, either that or Fenix, those Fnatic boys know how to win.

Edit: I mis spelled a word

If history is any guide, Socke will produce an amazingly epic PvT at some point in the event, and the map will be eventually dropped from the pool. Recall:
Socke vs. Drewbie on Lost Temple at MLG Raleigh
Socke vs. Jinro on Desert Oasis at MLG Dallas

Tyler will get further than Huk.

Huk seems to have performance anxiety.

1. Nony Tyler has transformed due to TSL he wants to PWN all that is Starcraft 2
2. Idra I think Idra has been on a string of loses and he will spring board back with his "new Style"
3. Grubby - I think he has the potential and has been training really hard to make it far through the open bracket and land on 3rd.

I don't think Grubby has much of a chance finishing anywhere near the top.

Destiny failing HD-style
IdrA winning it all then crying
TLO coming very far but losing very clearly as soon as he plays too gimmicky
Incontrol showing his true power (top 5)
Artosis losing to some random
MrBitters loses humbly as soon as he plays someone he met during "12 weeks with the pros"
qxc dropping the shit out of everything
Huk winning at least once with his suicide atack timings
disconnects during the finals
crowd shouting in the wrong moment
Day9 laughingtrack during 3 bo3s minimum

Artosis isn't competing. If he were he'd win the entire event though. Artosis Imba.

I honestly think that MLG is one of those tournaments impossible to call, just look at all the amazing players that showed up.

my predictions are that select wins
athene gets destroyed
sheth shows up and does well
huk loses to some annoying PvP
ret top 8
tyler in the top 4
machine plays incontrol at some point
naniwa top 8

but then i'm often wrong about these things

Noooo, too many people picking Tyler makes me a sad panda T_T;; Hyped players too often bomb bigtime, and I don't want Tyler to bomb <3 I'm hoping Tyler, but there's an awful lot of good players... I got a funny feeling about Socke for this event though, dunno why.

Minigun will make it into the champion's bracket but no further.
EG.Axlav will be really impressive and will be seeded well for Columbus.
Ret and TLO will under-perform and Tyler will have to carry the liquid torch to the top 4 or finals after Huk makes it through the open but doesn't get too deep after that.
Painuser will lose to Protoss most likely Tyler.
Kiwikaki will show he's more solid then people give him credit for.
Drewbie will continue to place well but won't win.

Edit: According to JoshSuth minigun isn't going to be there. This is disappointing to me

Tyler's been looking extremely strong lately and I know he's gonna have some crazy new builds for Dallas. Obviously don't count any of the top players out but I def wouldn't be surprised if he takes it. Gonna be great to go see the pros play again in Dallas

CrunCher is going to win.

Kiwikaki, Ret, Naniwa, and Socke are the others in top 5.

HuK isn't very good so I predict an early exit.

Tyler will be top 8.

Predictions:
1. Idra gets 2nd/3rd in group then gets eliminated by a ROOT player.
2. Only pool players in Top8, maybe even Top12/16. (players from open loosers bracket need 6-7 straight wins to get there)
3. People will realise how bad the format is and it gets changed after the event.
4. Socke takes the whole thing.

IdrA has already beat CrunCher in a tournament. Justin.tv Invitational #2, 2-1 Idra.

Anyways, my predictions:

1. iNcontroL will make top 8.

2. Destiny will get knocked out after a few rounds, but impress.

3. Tyler and IdrA top 4.

4. HuK won't perform to expectations. I think these players that go to Korea really strong are in a slump now because they are being influenced by Koreans and are playing in a way that is counterintuitive to the way they think. Such as Jinro and HuK.

I think everyone is hoping for a Tyler/IdrA finals. Of course, it will be played down by IdrA. During the IEM Championships, he kept saying that he did not expect to really beat Protosses in a best of 3. Be more irrational, IdrA! Have fun and hype it up!!

Top 8 to be P.
Tyler/Kiwikaki/HuK to be in that top 8.
All good zergs to fall very early to Ps. And an even worse percentage than last GSL in PvZ.
Yet another player (most likely P) protagonizes a drama with IdrA and makes a name for himself, gets a Fanclub in TL with a bunch of in promptu fan art and generates at least 10 pages of "is IdrA good or just overrated" debate.

Who ever gets the top spot in the Idra, Socke & Kiwi group will go on to win the whole thing. Expecting a very good tournament for EG. Axlav has a good chance making it out of the open and the 3 seeded players all have a shot to be 1st or 2nd in their respective groups.

Heres my prediction.... And its got alot to do with SOTG...

1) The winner will not be a fan favourite
2) Sheth will slap JP and Day9 in the face with a fish larger than 12 inches long because they doubted him
3) someone from coL or sixjax will be top 3

Good luck everyone at MLG!

Supremely bold #3.

Fighting through the open bracket and then fighting through championship groups to get into the finals...and then going through double elim format and beating EVERYONE up until top 3.

I think there are an individual member from each team that can make it out of groups but top 3 from open bracket, I just can't really see it happening. Top 3 will all be from the top 16 seeds just due to the sheer number of games played, in my opinion. Let alone one of the top 3 from those two specific teams.

I'd venture to say 2 of the top 3 will be protoss, if not all 3 as well. They're doing just fine.

If Idra hasn't diversified his game, I expect him out in the first round of bracket play. Group play will really tell the tale here. Huge fan so I really hope he has (inc hinted at it).

Sheth won't make champhionship bracket. Great player but I wonder how he'll handle the environment and mass games needed. I feel it end bad but props if he can get through. Cheering for all zergs though.

Huk and Naniwa will get through. Huk may have a hiccup round, Naniwa will breeze thorugh.

Ret first in his group. Super excited to see if he has incorporated infestors into his game. Only ZvT group equals disaster for his opponents

At least 2 Protoss in top 4 of mlg. Tyler, nani, huk, kiwi, socke are all amazing. I could see any pair of them in top 4. As for who I think has the best chance.. kiwi, tyler, nani, socke, huk in that order. Low number of games is where tyler excels and he is undoubtedly champion material. Kiwi is sick good and always has been. Would probably put nani equal to kiwi but he has the bracket to go through. Socke has sick PvP which will be a huge asset in bracket play. Huk at the bottom of the 5 because bracket + PvP = possible problems. If he shows some improved PvP, I'd put Huk at the top.
Going to guess Kiwi/ Socke if bracket is PvP heavy.
Guessing Tyler/ Kiwi if bracket is PvT heavy. Possibly socke here as well.
Guessing Kiwi/ Nani if PvZ heavy

Top 4 will have either Idra or no zergs. 2 protoss and 2 terran more likely then 3 protoss 1 terran.

Machine will play incontrol first round out in bracket play.

1) Tyler will activate Total Boss Mode and roflstomp through the tournament

2) The grand final will be an anti-climactic series that is over after only 2 games

3) Seeded players will dominate the tournament, since their opponents from the open bracket will be too tired/exhausted. TL will see this and a shitstorm of epic proportions will ensue

BC rush on a large map?
1. Stalkers arent great against them and with the new mobility they can even attempt to run away (before blink),
2. most aggressive Protoss start with a few Sentries and these are even worse against BC than Stalkers and
3. the BC can now arrive quickly enough to fight even on a larger map without the Starport being next door to the Protoss.

Two small addendums:
- For the "surprise value" the Starport and Fusion Core should be proxied, because otherwise an Observer could spoil it all.
- The "repair crew" shouldnt follow the BC into battle but rather wait in a safe spot.

1. Idra showcases new aggressive style, makes it to the finals.
2. Tyler goes undefeated, wins the whole thing.
3. Huk doesn't make it out of the open bracket.
Remember not only to say the right thing in the right place, but far more difficult still, to leave unsaid the wrong thing at the tempting moment.

1. Tyler wins
2. HuK battles through the open bracket and make it to the finals, but lose straight to Boss mode Tyler.

With this Tyler takes the crown as the current #1 Protoss from North America. :D

I'd like to see a Terran win because I'm struggling atm vs non-mirror. SeLeCT is weak vs zerg though T_T. I don't think a Terran will win. I like the Tyler/some European pick.

Naama is there too, or no? Love to see him on a run if so.

Idra 0-4 in his group (yes, 0-4 not 0-3)
Kiwikaki > Socke because he has more creative cheese.

1. qxc
2. ret

1. TLO
2. hmm hard to say without much knowledge in american scene. I'd say InControl

1. Tyler
2. drewbie?

How many from open bracket? I say 4 who will get on top
Naniwa
Cruncher
Fenix
Haypro

€: Honestly i hope Idra to win some games with a new style, just to show how Zergs are supposed to play now. But honestly ... i don't expect it.

After watching some of idra's play during incontrol's stream, I feel like his ZvP has taken a hit. Geoff spoke about it quite well during SOTG just how he needs to mentally change gears. If he is able to really take this advice to heart, and in time for his first group, I think he will do well.

My inner fanboy wants to see big things out of iNcontroL and IdrA and Tyler. I feel like we'll have a relatively unknown guy hit the scene hard.

While possible i would like to know why (facts!) you think this is the case?

Tyler and Naniwa will probably get far (which means he survives the open bracket, soo many games, so much shit can happen).
Idra will lose to some random "Protoss" because skill does not matter.
Incontrol will dissapoint again (just for a little more drama on sotg :D).
Huk will dissapoint again... Being in Korea and stuff everything but Top 3 is dissapointing (I just have not seen anything of him that puts him ahead of any of the other top players).

1) The winner will be a protoss.

2) Liquid will break out of their collective slump.

3) KawaiiRice will put in a great performance.

4) We realise how much worse the bottom 1/3 of the seeds are in comparison to so many players in the open bracket.

5) The open bracket itself will be absolute hell to get through, even for the best players.

2. Nobody from the open bracket will be in the top 3.
3. Socke will impress once again and takes top 3.
4. None of the 4 zergs will be in the top 2 of their groups

I think Idra takes it tho

Number 1: EG.Grack
Number 2: Tyler Wasieleski
Number 3: FXO.qxc

En FXO.Sheth who doesnt show up ofc! :p

Edit: Painuser will drop down as soon as he can to the loosers bracket and go to the semi's.

I would expect Idra to be crushed atleast.

Top spots, in no particular order: SelecT, Naniwa, Sjow/Ret.

if naniwa keeps his current play the only people I can see stopping him are Tyler, Socke because its PvP, Select because his terran is gosu+2 or Idra if he decides to play his best.

That's abit strong maybe he'll get knocked out but die....Lets hope not

The only reason i didn't mention huk is because of the open bracket. i do agree he's got 200x better unless he's going to do a Select, Huks going to be knackered

My prediction is that someone will have a new strategy and use it to win a lot of games and then everyone on the forums will be like XXXX OP!
Just like everytime ^^...

Just kidding, i don't think idrA will win this seeing some of his matches lately.
I hope TLO gets in top 3, and i wish to see a game like the Socke - Drewbie again

I think Naniwa will win it, if he plays as good as at home (he didn't perform really well at offline-events).

I'm rooting for Socke, but his last PvZs (against Zenio, Delphi, Nerchio) weren't impressive and PvP is really random, so he could also be 3rd in his group .

I thought posts weren't supposed encourage people randomly throwing in their own lists without any discussion or collaborative thought :/ oh well. Here is my prediction for group B which is Select, Qxc, Sjow, and Ret: http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=207273

Wow, so many people thinking either Tyler or IdrA will win. I'm predicting at least one of them will disappoint (most likely IdrA) and hoping Grubby will do big things.

Also predicting Final Boss will win the first Halo: Reach event since they won the first Halo 2 and 3 events as well. And Pistola is unstoppable.

1) Cruncher will face IdrA again and beat him in a macro-game. In the second match he will cheese and ": )" just because he can.
2) Someone from TL wins the whole thing. Not sure about who exactly.
3) The BNet servers will crash at least once.

1) IdrA will play a very aggressive style
2) ZvP will change a lot (Because of the Mondragon- or new Bane/Ling-Style)
3) TvP will change a little bit (More and stronger Drops as T / More Counter-Aggression) [Believe it: T is waaaay more mobile than P]
4) PvP might evolve into FE Builds vs. 4-Gate [Saw a lot of them on the european server.. very strange to deal with]
5) TvZ will show more Mech Play
6) A lot of known Protoss Player will be eliminated very early
7) A aggressive Zerg will dominate the tournament

8) QQ on TL about Z being imba.
You heard it here first

An Important game to be ruined because MLG was too lazy to invest in sound proof booths.

I predict that Protoss will own in general.

1. Naniwa.
2. Tyler.
3. Select or Sjow or Socke.

Idra will do poorly and wont make it out his group. I think he will be destroyed by Socke and KiwiKaki.

Ret might make it out since he is matched against Terrans, but I don't think he should play Zerg, to passive playstyle. Protoss would be better.

TLO will do some entertaining play but fail to win.

QXC will do some entertaining play but fail to win.

HuK will advance but loose early in the playoff.

Haypro will not make it through the open bracket.

Edit: filled in some more fun stuff.

I predict EU to be strong, but there are only 4 EU players in pools right now and open bracket is too hard, so it won't be the entire top3.

you cannot NOT get out of groupstage, you just get a better seed in the championship bracket based on your groupresult
