Since no one post about that, i'll do.
Dan ‘Artosis’ Stemkoski, will be joining Sixjax Gaming as captain
Months ago I interviewed Artosis and asked whether he thought of himself as a player or a commentator first. He responded, “Right now I realize I am seen as a commentator who plays, and that’s fine. In my head, I’m a player who commentates.” Through conversations we’ve had since then it has become very apparent that he wholeheartedly believes in himself to compete at the absolute highest levels and that his talent is something he is eager to show off.
I’m very excited to announce that Seoul’s biggest bad boy, Dan ‘Artosis’ Stemkoski, will be joining Sixjax Gaming . His passion and his experience will undoubtedly be invaluable to us, and we’ve overjoyed to have him be a part of this organization.
Artosis will not only be playing under the Sixjax flag, but he’ll also be leading the team as team captain. Artosis will be responsible for scouting new players and recruiting new talent. He wants, much like we want, to create something for the history books. With our shared vision I’m positive that Sixjax can become one of the world’s best Starcraft teams.
That said, as of today Sixjax Gaming will be restructuring to accommodate our goals and simplify things as we move forward. In October of last year Sixjax sponsored the clan NrG to form sixjax.NrG . We’re going to continue to sponsor dde, ViBE, Mihai, Cocoa from the previous team, but they’ll now be playing under the simplified moniker ‘Sixjax Gaming.’ They’re four fantastic players and we are delighted that they’ll still be competing on our behalf.
In addition to captaining the team and playing, Artosis will also be creating exclusive content for Sixjax. He’ll be documenting his experiences from all around the globe and sharing them with you folks here at Sixjaxgaming.com.

Congrats to Artosis! Let's hope Sixjax becomes another powerhouse team too.

I did not see that move coming at all. Good luck Artosis+ Sixjax

kinda odd o_O
Artosis is in korea. These guys are very much so not in korea... but in any case Dan is a fantastic asset and will do great. Nice work sixjax!

Is there a place where the current roster of sixjax.NrG is located? I take it from We’re going to continue to sponsor dde, ViBE, Mihai, Cocoa from the previous team, but they’ll now be playing under the simplified moniker ‘Sixjax Gaming.’ They’re four fantastic players and we are delighted that they’ll still be competing on our behalf. That they were not the only players who were on sixjax.NrG but who are not on sixjax - I'm curious who the other players are
Good to see Artosis showing some moves towards validating his claim of being a player. Maybe he'll be the Mondragon of SC2, leading a team as well as owning it up
|
:O looking forward to this, "exclusive content!"
|
Artosis gonna be a beastly protoss.
|
wowowow.
Great pick up for sixjax. Artosis recruiting for a new team!? He's gonna be like the North American BoxeR <3
|
Artosis is the new BoxeR, he will start a dynasty of great zergs in his progaming team.
|
Am I the only one who sees the tragedy of the tastosis archon being seperated?
|
Wow Artosis back to being a team captain. Congrats to Artosis and Sixjax.
|
Is this Artosis' big announcement?
|
On March 31 2011 09:33 MattBarry wrote: Am I the only one who sees the tragedy of the tastosis archon being seperated? Yes? Because I doubt he will stop commentating GSL because of this or anything else in the near future, for his sake and theirs.

I think Geoff summed it up perfectly. This is very odd. I know he has a little more free-time and all with the introduction of the candidates for the Code A games, but seriously?
NrG/sixjax has a solid team, but I don't know how they expect Artosis to scout upcoming players let alone lead/manage a team when he's on a different timezone.
He should be trying to catch up to everyone else.
This is the first time, I can truly say. I didn't see this coming at all. The only thing I wonder is...
how long it will last? My answer would be, not very long unless he recruits a few old friends to come along for the ride.
|
awesome! wish you the best artosis, team captain, none the less

Lol this is pretty funny news after the little conversation that came on just before SotG last night.
Regardless Congrats Artosis, and Sixjax.

Website destroyed? At least for me

How will they be separated? In the first few seasons of the GSL, Artosis was in MYM and Tasteless was in EG... how is it different now?
Either way, that's quite a surprise. I didn't think a team like Sixjax would be reaching out to him, but it seems it will be beneficial for everyone. Best of luck.
|
prolly doing it for the money, yo
|
Best wishes to Artosis and Sixjax. I hope he is enormously successful!
|
Artosis half a world away is still a better captain than pretty much everyone, I'd think. gl dan~
Also, Artosis + evoli might make the best content team outside of TL... someone start an article/video clanleague.
|
Are we sure this isn't just some very early April Fool's joke? It seems like a rather bizarre move for Artosis, especially considering how established he is in Korea.

Well so much for the Media rumors

Congrats to Artosis but what does this mean for NrG? Are those players leaving NrG for sixjax?
|
On March 31 2011 09:33 MattBarry wrote: Am I the only one who sees the tragedy of the tastosis archon being seperated?
I also feel the same way.
|
If this is true, i just makes me strave that much more to be better so i can get into one of these teams
|
i don't get people who call april fools when it is not even april first ANYWHERE.
For the rest this seems like a weird move indeed as artosis is essentially on an island far, far away. Hope he does well in this new role despite this inconvience though, i am certain his excellent video coverage that apparently will now be posted on the sixjax site will continue to kick ass and rake in the hits to their teamsite.

Wut?

I don't understand what people are talking about. It doesn't say Artosis is moving anywhere at all. This does not seem to change the Tastosis archon in any way. There's currently no announcement of artosis not casting GSL or leaving Korea or anything like that. Artosis is joining a new team. He used to be on MYM.
|
Good pick up by sixjaxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Gl to both parties
|
Go Artosis, I support you all the way and can't wait to see you in action!
|
I actually included in the post that Artosis will be staying in Korea and continuing to cast the GSL. We wouldn't dare split up the casting Archon.
|
Random news, but a cool one nonetheless. Good luck to both!
|
Kind of ironic how Incontrol and the state of the game people made fun of sixjax on last night's sotg lol. It does seem like a pretty bizarre move to me but who knows.
|
Gratz to artosis. Glad to see him talking playing seriously again. Now just for day9 0.o

From his twitter:

Congrats Artosis. I wish you weren't doing this. I wish you were bringing Media back. But this is okay too.

how about the players on sixjax.nrg besides mihai dde vibe and cocoa? Or will they limit themselves to those 4 players plus artosis because of the NASL 5 players per team rule

-_-. You know that rule got changed a long time ago right? They changed that before they picked players.
Grats to artosis! Hope to see him play well in NASL :D

I will follow this team now just because of Artosis <3
|
Twitter: CallMeTasteless; Nick Plott I've decided to quit team EG. 7 hours ago
Maybe join Sixjax? or am I totally wrong here ^^ Tasteless-builds own everything right and btw, he later on said it definitely was not a 1st of april joke.
|
i didn't see that coming. tbh i didn't think nrg was that good a team to get artosis. i think if the story is true, it would come with a very large paycheck that he would need to contiune to sustain himself in korea. otherwise i think he could do better. i would expect a bigger team to pick him up instead of nrg
|
He really must of enjoyed coaching the world team and that's great, but it would suck if he missed casting with tasteless. Hope that he can juggle the jobs well.
|
Either Sixjax explodes because of this or I don't understand the world anymore.
|
Wow, excellent for Sixjax! Only a matter of time now until they start becoming one of the best.
|
so we should start calling Artosis - Sixjax_Artosis? or Artosis_jaxsix? :D

Am I reading this correctly that the new sixjax team will no longer be using the NrG tag that has been used for months, and that the team now only consists of dde, Mihai, ViBE, Cocao, and now Artosis?
Edit: As I thought...hmm...this was answered by NeverExpo above.

The Sixjax team does consist of those players but apparently the NrG clan entity still exists. Is it possible that the new Sixjax players are still NrG clan members, but can't participate in NrG clan wars, for instance, because they're competing under the Sixjax progaming team? I'm basically thinking of this as having the same clan vs team dynamic that exists in Korea rather than the much blurrier line that exists here in the States.
|
Cool, maybe Sixjax will send a few players to Korea eventually.
|
Is this going to affect his job as a caster for the GSL? o:

edit: quote removed by request
Woah. Not to beat a dead horse, but if qxc's team switch - which was totally amicable apparently, and done in good faith - but if qxc's teamswitch got people here up in arms, it seems like this is a much worse thing... It seems extremely unprofessional, to say the least, for a company to go from a deal with the team management to sponsor them, into stealing the players right out from under them and leaving the whole rest of the clan high and dry. I don't know about the personal financial situations of mihai, dde, vibe and cocoa, but this really reflects poorly on sixjax, shame on them.

I don't think it makes it any better if they told them beforehand ... "hey guys, we're not going to sponsor you anymore, and we're taking your best players and starting a new team. Kthxbye"

oh sick.. im happy =} sixjax one of the top in NA too, congrats !!

Oh wow. That's pretty cool, if they can overcome the geography. Hope it will work out for all involved!
|
Yeah, seems beneficial. Artosis can become the face of sixjax: beneficial for both parties.
|
basically paying artosis to mention sixjax on GSL every night and ditching the rest of the team
dont see how he can practice, compete in NASL, commentate GSL, and help run a team from korea

He never mentioned MYM, lol. Is he even gonna mention Sixjax?
And mayybe I'm confused about what a team captain is/does but I thought the idea was to be a figurehead/guide/representative player, not the manager. Midas is team captain of WeMade FOX and he made it sound in a recent interview like it didn't entail very many extra duties at all.
|
Does this have anything to do with his coaching of the GSL World team?
|
It comes down to what kind of manager/player coach. Some are very hands-on. ;/
I see Artosis as a figurehead more than anything else in this relationship.
|
No matter where Artosis is he's a fantastic pick up for anytime. Having that guy as your captain is huuuuuuuge. They can only get insanely better with Artosis.
|
|
I acted hastily earlier, sorry for my remarks. Further information regarding team NrG. (and the players that arent being signed with sixjax) will follow at some point. I will do my best to keep both groups together.

I don't see dde or the other guys are in any better shape. Like I said before, it's mutual. Just because you are under the same banner doesn't necessarily mean they will train a lot together. They are world's apart. Artosis has a long way to climb. He's more of an accessory more than anything else.

Congrats to both Artosis and Sixjax for picking up a new captain as well as for Artosis to be moving forward. Hope to see more of Artosis's play in the future!
|
Congratulations to Artosis! Great pick up, and SixJax is making solid moves.
However, after many years in this business I must say that I am concerned a bit. If the main penny auction site goes out of business (and many do) some great players could be dumped over night. It's wonderful to see more and more organizations in the space but I hope they stay involved over time and don't just disappear in a vapor of broken promises and unpaid salaries.
Either way, congrats and best wishes to everyone involved!
|
Artosis is a beast waiting to be unleashed.
His BW accomplishments show he has talent. His commentaries in BW and SC2 show he has knowledge. His humor and analysis show he is a genius. His GSL World Team League coaching show he is a leader. His love of guinea pigs... uhhhh.
Sixjax is really fortunate to pick up such an amazing person, and I look forward to seeing what kind of amazing stuff Artosis can do for the team despite being in Korea.

It dissapointing all the people hating on sixjax.nrg as a no-name clan, they are no slouch. They won the CEVO pro-clanwar which team EG also participated in by beating EG, then beating team VT which got through EG in the losers bracket, and they were one of the top NA clans in Broodwar.
|
Woot for Artosis, hopefully this won't mess up anything having to do with casting, but he has always expressed how he likes the playing side more than the casting, but I am selfish, I want him casting!

I wouldn't say that they're a no name clan but outside of Vibe and dde(who are reasonably legit, both of them had decent point scoring runs in TLOpens, no small feat) I don't think of their players as being particularly "top". They've also lost to EG in SCL before, but I guess EG was fielding Idra. Not sure if they were in the CEVO event.

Ehhh that'll change with MLG I think provided they don't get stuck with ridiculous bad luck in the open brackets. I could see Vibe or dde making it to pool play tbh. I can see vVv getting a lot more attention this season too, those guys also beat EG in clan wars a few times if I'm not mistaken.

No, it's called a reality check. Apparently some of you are in need of one.
I will be clear: just because you are on the same team doesn't necessarily mean you train a whole lot together. This notion has existed for sponsored foreign teams in BW (to a greater extent) and apparently it still applies to SC2 as well for some foreign teams. All the information is there for you guys. This is based on several interviews coming straight from the players themselves. We've made great strides since the beginning of E-Sports and more training houses are beginning to materialize. I have helped manage several sponsored teams in the past and unfortunately this is how it is.
When Artosis was in [Media], those guys weren't just teammates. Many of them were friends prior, so it was only natural to practice a lot together, which they did. Artosis has a lot on his plate atm with commentating and the NASL. Hell, I must say its about time he found time to practice again let alone compete in the NASL. My expectations for him in that competition are very low.
I know Artosis very well and what he's capable of from BW and the beta days of SC2. He isn't a pushover, but I wouldn't call him a top player either. His popularity stems from his commentating abilities and other projects surrounding Starcraft. It's one thing to play a few hours and it's another thing to be playing the game all day. You can be the most knowledgeable person about Starcraft, but you still have to apply it and get the results. As for them training together... timezones are a huge factor. Artosis is a commentator first; player second in his free-time. Practice time will be sparse.
I give credit where it's due. I have my peeves with the guy, but that by no means makes me a 'hater' lmao. I remember when he commentated his first set of matches a long time ago and I was like 'what the hell Dan? Why didn't you start doing this sooner? You are much better at this than actually competing!" That was ages ago. -.-

Congrats artosis and good luck.
|
what is sixjax? are they even in korea? how is this a good decision by sixjax at all? props to artosis for getting paid, naturally, but i'm surprised no korean team offered him $...
|
seeing artosis being called sjartosis just feels werid. i love artosis, but this deal feels fake, like there is something that we don't know going on. feels like maybe what we know is very little and there is a while other conspiracy going on.
idk. artosis on this team just reaks of fakeness
|
This is way so...random and strange. I've never even heard Artosis acknowledge Sixjax's existence before and now he's heading up their team? I hope there is an explanation posted soon. Why Sixjax of all teams when he could have had a spot...practically anywhere with a little practice. It just doesn't make sense to me. Maybe I'm just disappointed that Media isn't reforming like Skew suggested it might. Yeah, more than anything I think I'm disappointed.
|
Who's to say Skew won't join sixjax? It could happen.
|
Sixjax brings a household name into their crew. Bringing some much needed attention to the group.
|
sixjax.NrG? Wow. That was very unexpected. Anyway, congrats on Artosis and great pickup.
|
Bets of luck to Artosis. I really look forward to seeing him play.
Is it just me that wanted Liquid to pick him up? Thought, I want all my favorite players to play for Liquid .
|
Wait what? Is this just a ploy to get publicity for the team. As Incontrol said, it's very odd for someone to manage a team that's not even base on Korea which will be in totally different timezone. My take on this is that team is branching to Korea and Artosis will recruit/manage Korean players?
|
Grats on getting Dan, as team captain I image he is a great asset due to his high exposure to players.
|
It is weird to think of Artosis being captain from across the world, but did anyone consider this? Artosis is supposed to scout new recruits and find fresh talent. He's in Korea and has close ties with the Korean progaming scene. Maybe Sixjax wants to become a global team? Liquid has players in Korea, the US, and Europe. Why not have another team do the same?
|
Wow great acquisition. I am thrilled. I know some of the sixjax guys espicially mihai and dde and they got fantastic potential. Woot i might see artosis train with them then Kinda odd indeed but hopefully it will work out well.

GL and congrats to everyone.

Dope for artosis! Not sure why they would sponsor CocoA over ostojiy....

didnt you hint at it in your NASL application video skew?

I'm really surprised that EG didn't have the inside track on Artosis ...

Skew wrote: Artosis came to me and said "Lets put back together Media just for this" because he left MyM and he didn't have a team, of course, either and its a requirement that you have a team so...umm...we're kinda doing this...umm...trying to bring back media just for this but I'm a part of AI, I'm a fully sponsored player for them so...thats...kind of my history with Starcraft 2.
To me that meant that you are technically part of AI but you were going be playing under Media for the NASL. I suppose, now that I look back, it could have meant Artosis approached you about it but you can't because you are part of AI. =(

You're assuming way too much to give anyone a "reality check"
No, it's called a reality check. Apparently some of you are in need of one.
I will be clear: just because you are on the same team doesn't necessarily mean you train a whole lot together. This notion has existed for sponsored foreign teams in BW (to a greater extent) and apparently it still applies to SC2 as well for some foreign teams. All the information is there for you guys. This is based on several interviews coming straight from the players themselves. We've made great strides since the beginning of E-Sports and more training houses are beginning to materialize. I have helped manage several sponsored teams in the past and unfortunately this is how it is.
I suppose it makes sense to join a team and not take advantage of being on a team. Especially when you're the captain you would probably be smart to never interact with your teammates. You don't need to live in the same house with someone to practice with that person that's what the internet is for you can even practice with people who are across the globe. I question your credentials as a manager if you don't realize this.
So now only friends can practice together? How do you know Artosis isn't friends with the other plays from sixjax you're just assuming these guys don't know each other at all. Yea Artosis is going to commentate lots of players commentate. Yea he's going to be in the NASL but guess what he has to do for that PRACTICE and who better to practice with than his new team? Wow you have low expectations that's great doesn't mean anything.
Artosis is a commentator first; player second in his free-time. Practice time will be sparse.
Ok so we can't call him a top player, but thats mostly because he's only playing behind closed doors. His popularity and it's source have nothing to do with his skill level. You're again assuming he only plays a few hours for we all know he could be playing every minute he isn't commentating or never playing. Timezones aren't as big a factor as you would think. There will always be a window where people from different timezones can play together, it's nothing more than an easily avoidable obstacle. Did you read the OP? Artosis says himself he is a player first. I guarantee you that everyone who has played something first will do anything they have to to still be a player no matter what it is. Lots of coaches, announcers, or anyone will tell you they don't dream about coaching or whatever else they dream about playing. Artosis will pursue being a top player for as long as he can, because if playing doesn't work out casting will always be there.
I give credit where it's due. I have my peeves with the guy, but that by no means makes me a 'hater' lmao. I remember when he commentated his first set of matches a long time ago and I was like 'what the hell Dan? Why didn't you start doing this sooner? Cool, you like him as a commentator along with everyone else, but you're finding every flimsy excuse possible to down him as a player and convince people based of silly assumptions that he will fail as a player. In my eyes thats hating.

He is so NOT! Come on guys. When will you realize that foreigners are 100 years behind koreans in SCBW or SC2. Artosis might be able to bully some noobs in some college or community tournament, but he will NEVER be someone worth mentioning in progaming history as a player (as a commentator and advocate maybe).
Has anyone seen Nestea, Foxer, etc complain about imbalance? No! Because they find ways to exploit gaps and strengthen their game. Not whine and QQ. Artosis, Idra, and most foreigner wannabes neither have the discipline nor mental fortitude, never mind skills, to compete and excel against dedicated progamers. Sorry. Meh news actually.

That's why Dimaga sat down and studied Nestea in depth down to every drone timing, and even on specific maps, to eek out just a little edge over him, and had to composure to take down the most perfect ZvZ player thus far in SC2. That sounds like mental fortitude and "skills" to me.
You sound kind of racist when you say that being korean makes you better than anyone else in the world at starcraft 2. If you have been watching anything major relating to starcraft 2 in the last few weeks, you would know that you are in fact just another human being, and have the same potential to win games of starcraft 2 as anyone else. Based on the results, maybe we shouldn't progress into your "future", because it apparently causes your assumed top players of an unbeatable caliber to lose to us meager and lagging foreigners. *rolls eyes*
Getting annoyed with all of the talk regarding skill based on where you live or where you were born.

in BW, foreigners are decades behind you are right. in SC2, probably only a couple of months behind if anything. It depends a lot on what the response to NASL and IGN pro league and MLG are. If the foreigners take it seriously and form prohouses and dedicate their life to Starcraft 2 then sure we will catch up in no time. Otherwise, Korea will pull ahead if the pros just want easy money and think it is not worth the effort.
And qq-ing exists in Korea too. Boxer whined about Terran being too weak and wanting to change races. MVP did as well just last week. So did Genius. Nestea was said to qq his way to GSL 2 victory. Fruitdealer whined massively on playxp during his championship run on GSL1. Whiners come from all races and nationality.

Why team captian, he should be way to busy practicing his ass off.

Congrats to Artosis, as mentioned before this does seem a bit odd considering different time zones. I'm all for Artosis branching out his pro-gaming career, I just hope that he is making the right decision here, as being a captain on a team with a completely different time zone can be quite challenging along with his GSL responsibilities. In my heart Artosis is one of the best commentators out there and I really think he should pursue that a lot more than his pro gaming career, just because he isn't as likely to succeed in pro gaming as much as he has in commentating.
Here's to hoping he can do both!

Well this is amazing, hope artosis can bring it home a few times and play well... good for him, good for sixjax

There big players are older broodwar players.
Mihai (Ahhboxxah) Vibe, Cocoa Dde
Dde is probably the most recognizable because of numerous online tourny wins. Vibe almost qualified for TSL. Vibe and DDE are in the NASL

Yeah but he roots for the zerg every time.
Casting code S doesn't seem like it's a full time job. The only sting for a progamer in SC2 is that it requires you to live in South Korea (arguably not a major drawback). With SC2 becoming more international though... we'll see.

congrats Artosis and sixjax

This seems weird. As far as I understand, it's going to be a foreigner team, with a captain living and working in Korea? I wonder if the can scout some real talent though. Would be cool to see a real new powerhouse team arise.

Isn't that because he used to play zerg? I'm pretty sure when he was in gsl preliminaries (round of 64?) he was playing zerg. Then he decided that he'd rather play to win and switched races
I'd say casting both code a and code s is a full time job, when you look at all the behind the scenes things that the casters have to do as well. Now with only casting code s though, I do think he'll have time to become competitive.

As an NrG member, after reading posts from this thread I feel that the rest of NrG besides those specified players are being left behind. As happy as I am for the four players, I feel the worst especially for NeverExpo. I can vouch for him being a fantastic leader/captain and that he has put enormous amounts of effort to organize/put together and run the team from BW and into sc2. I feel that out of all the remaining NrG members, he is in the worst position and it seems as though he is being "replaced" by artosis.
I am unsure on the situation of NrG and sixjax as I haven't heard anything official from NeverExpo yet but from what I currently understand from this thread, there is a lot of excitement but realize that a lot of people involved are being put on the backburner as well.
