Hey guys so I am calling out to the TL community for some help. I am on possibly one of the worst losing streaks in SC2 history (granted its only been a couple months) that I have ever heard of. I have recently gone from 2600 pt player #65 in NA to sub 2000 pt player. I cannot get my game back no matter how much I try. I feel like i wanna throw up when I think about trying to grind back 600 pts back and I just keep losing no matter how much I try. My confidence is pretty much shot, im pretty sure a bronze player could roll me at this point ^^. Please leave legit suggestions on what you think I can do to get my head straight and regain my confidence to play sc2!!!

Thanks guys,
Lime

Hi Lime, take a couple days off, then come back to play. You just need a break.

I'm also on a losing streak lately. Lost probably 15 games and won 3 just today.

My top suggestion would be to do something else for a few days and not think about SC2 at all. Then you can come back and start fresh.

I have two suggestions.
First off, stop signing your posts.
Second, chill for a while. Watch some VODs. Play some customs. Go back to ladder when you've regained a chill state .

I think maybe it's time to pack your bags and move on. If you fall that much I don't see you regaining your composer to be honest. Maybe stick to team games.

Maybe everyone is just getting better when you aren't? Idk ><

But if I were you, I would take a break, and try to get back into it fresh in a week or so.

The game has been making alot of shifts lately in play styles. Look how different ZvT is now compared to a month ago when they released 1.12 yet we are still on the same patch.

Give yourself a couple day break of playing to help ease tension. When you get back do a little newb bashing to pick your self esteem up. I am not sure if you are still going random or if you are just playing Z but stick to something consistent

Best of Luck bro

Its just points. Your points dont make you a good / bad player , regardless of what other people want to tell you.

Play to improve your play or play for just fun.

Those are the only important things.

If you have been losing alot and are beating yourself up about it, just take a break. The game is about having fun, not just grinding yourself into the dole drums.

Besides what I have already said something more constructive is take a game that you think you could have won or was very close and do analysis on it, but from an unbiased 3rd party, basically trying to pick apart your flaws and areas you can improve.

Thats about all I can say, the main point is, just relax, points mean anything, dont fall into the trap that most people do. You are not your ladder points and they dont define your strength as a player.

Hey Lime,

Saw the thread on main page, so I just had to click it, cause I was in the same position as you (not as long as you). I'm not at your 2600 diamond level, but this worked for me. I used to be Plat 1 like a month ago, then hit a huge losing streak for like 2 weeks straight.Watched streams and VODs and replays till I really felt like getting back in the game.

I came back playing a different race (switched from P to T to Random) in like the Plat rank 20ish with a 400+ bonus pool to just get a renewed feeling for a game and get a change of pace.

well enough of the life story. I say chill and don't worry about points. and switch up your race if you feel like getting a renewed feel of the game. or just chill and take a break. If you do, you can break some bad habits you're making because you have to re-adapt. Play some customs and such and just enjoy the game instead of stressing about points and ladder, because it makes you stuck on doing whatever it takes to win rather actually enjoying the game for it and winning as a result

stop playing if you lose more then 3 games in 1 sitting and do something else and get refreshed. You'll probably need to look at your replays(even though it sometimes hurts) or train with some friends to see if you're doing something fundamentally wrong.

i lost 200 points in 2 days in mid/high diamond also. what u do is stop for a week, then do customs 1v1's until u feel better.
after that u can play ladder, however when u lose, it does bring back memories of ur losing streak....that cant be helped, would slowly heal in time... like a broken relationship, it keeps haunting u

Is there anyway you can hang out with you friends in the custom games? you can grind it out with them without thinking about your points in the ladder.
I don't think I've ever wished my opponent good luck prior to a game. When I play, I play to win. I hope every opponent I ever have is cursed with fucking terrible luck. I hope they're stuck playing underneath a stepladder with a black cat in attendance a

Sometimes when I hit a bad losing streak, like many others have said, I take a break. But during said break, I watch a LOT of replays, VODs and live streams to take in a lot of new information. After a week or so, I come back with a fresh mind and go at it.

Oftentimes its easy to make rushed decisions or just plain bad decisions when you've lost a couple of games. Playing when your alert, awake, eager, and calm is really important. Its very easy to "lose your head" if your on a losing streak, where you overreact or under react. I don't know enough about people to say what makes people feel confidence and calmness but those two criteria really help in making good decisions and as we know good decisions = doing well. I can say for me a quick shower, a good 's night rest, after a good work out, watching a good replay, all make me feel more relaxed and hence I'm eager to play a good game win or lose.
Be nice!

hey man;
ive been having these weird spikes as well. went from 2350-> 2050 then back 2350 then now ~2300. the problem is that one wrong decision as a zerg player can mean a loss.

that + ladder seems to be a cesspool of cheese vs Z right now. every t tries to mass marines and every P will do some cheesy 1 base or 2 base all in (timing attack lol). my sugestion would be to just chill and play some customs with some friends. find some practice partners because right now ladder is just pure frustration for zerg players. the 2300-2700 bracket seems to be filled with the most ridiculous cheesers right now lol.

Play some campaign on harder difficulty or some custom or team games for a while, totally is relaxing, quit sc for a few days, and make sure not to stop for a few months otherwise you will lose all your skills, just a few days of custom or team would be nice

Is it worth $20 to get your confidence back, and step up your game?

That's why they have coaches. If you can't figure out why in the hell you keep losing, its time to get an outside opinion.

Best suggestion would be to take a break. You're probably playing a lot worse because you keep losing. Once you get that bad taste out of your mouth you'll be playing at your level again.

If you got there once, you can get there again. Its just a matter of time.

All you can do until the time comes is focus on your game play and focus on keeping your mind clear of doubt.

Someone already suggested doing single player, so I'm posting to second that. During a similar period I took a few days to check on whether I was doing the basics. Watch your own games, look for holes in your play. Watch streams. Losing streaks are great times to self-reflect.

Remember that slumps like these don't last forever.

When I go on a losing streak I always go back to basic, for a few games. Trying to play so solid I can, no fancy stuff. Just simple macor/micro. Even if I lose, it feels that if I had restarted and can work my way up again

Try it.

Play some random 2vs2 as random to regain confidence. But NEVER play 2vs2 and 1vs1 on the same day. It messes with your head. I blame it on 2vs2 not being competitive, you play for fun.

If you are on tilt, just stop playing and take a break. Otherwise, you'll just end up being more on tilt, and you're probably on crazy tilt losing 600 pts.

I know losing can feel hard sometimes. And for someone like me who is very competitive and sometimes can not take losing very well. What I do is just exit the game.

After I lose to someone who does stupid shit, and I feel like they don't deserve to win. I just close the game. Cool off for a while (could be a couple hours or a full day, depending on what happens the rest of the day)

I just try to relax myself. Do something else for a while; it doesn't even have to be something SC2-related.

Then when I'm calm, I go back, try to watch replays of my losses, see which decisions I did were wrong.

I am going to go out on a limb here and say despite the losing streak I believe Limenade would 4-0 both of you in any best of seven. You obviously have no idea of what you're talking about.

As for losing streaks? Don't think there's any 'good' solution, taking a break will work. If you keep on playing it will end eventually, but that will be more mentally taxing. Losing is good for learning and all, but there's a point where you aren't learning; merely beating yourself up and playing bad because of it.

So yeah, if you think it's too much of a pain in the ass to keep playing just take a break. Play another game, play no game, whatever. A few days or a week should do it.

Lime,

I've played you a couple times on the ladder. I remember you as a very decent zerg. Sad to hear that you've dropped to 2000. Gonna agree with kvz that the ONLY thing i see from protoss and terran are 1 base all in cheeses.

Take a break and spend a couple day watching replays and analyzing your losses to better your decision making.

Ironically enough, my rank shot up in the past week due to all the cheesing. Once you find the build and timings that block all the cheeses, you'll get back up in the ladder. Hope to see you winning again.

WoW is mind cancer please do not suggest another human being plays that abomination, it's like recommending crack to a child.

All I can suggest you do Lime is to take a break, 2-3 days. Get relaxed and refocused then jump straight back in. No hessitation, no thinking about the ladder points... just straight back in as you were when you was 2600.

Play some other game for a few days, preferably a game like CoD or Halo, a real casual one, dont even think about starcraft for 2-3 days. No replays, no TL, nothing. Then come back to the game and you should have gotten rid of the losing mentality or whatever. If you're still losing then i really dont know what you can do.

When i start going on a loosing streak i sometimes play team games 4v4's etc just because they are less stressfull. Or I go do something else like play black ops?

Just dont try to dewell on the fact that you have started loosing. Try to do something else or maybe ask to practise with friends about what you are having trouble with?

Stop playing for a while.
I would imagine you're thinking you'll get worse if you stop playing but you'll probably start winning again after a 2 day break.

Take a break from the game for a few days. The time away will help your mental health alot. Hang out with some friends. Exercise some.

Just avoid the game for a few days.

I would have expected a 2600 diamond player to know how to act when losing a lot. Rather surprising really.

Anyways to help you; the number ONE reason why people go on losing streaks, is because instead of thinking about the game they're in now, they're still thinking about the last game they lost, resulting in them not concentrating and doing very stupid mistakes. Then they lose, and play another game, and are again not concentrating on the game they're in now, resulting in another loss etc. etc.

This is at least how I've completely stopped myself from going on losing streaks. It's extremely hard to do, especially if the 2nd, 3rd, 4th guy you play does some Protoss cheese or something like that and you're still not quite focusing enough on how to beat him and instead thinking of how OP speedlings and mules are. But it should help.

The same as when you have losing streak in poker.

You take a break.

Also losing streak leads to bad confidence which leads to swtiching up BOs and playstyle non-stop which just spirals till you play against suckers.

Take a break of a week and look at old replays so you can start doing what worked again. Or look at the MLG replays for new shit etc.

When my confidence is shot (as it was recently with Terran) I stop playing ladder and focus on practice games with partners. I play random but as Terran I was struggling against Zerg, im only platinum but I found a few Zerg partners most of whom were mid diamond and better than me in general.

After playing against them a lot, analyzing the replays and seeing that even though these players were much better than anyone I faced on ladder I actually wasn't doing that badly, sure I lost almost every single game but it was by no means an easy ride for them, it was purely a lack of confidence, moving out at the wrong times, desperate attacks from me.

After that I went back to ladder and no longer found the MU hard as I knew I could deal with players better than those I would meet on ladder, I guess it would be harder for you to find practice partners of better skill than yourself but equal skill would work just as well.

I have found on the the best ways to bring your game back is to take an extended break. Many of the things that are sorta automated that are losing you games will break, and you will start with a much clearer idea of what you want to accomplish.

Watch out...Banshee's

I'd either go on my silver account and bash noobs (lol...it's so fun) or if you don't have another account then just play custom games against lower players and just do the old "punch the pillow" type thing just with noobs :D

However If you're REALLY feeling like you can't win no matter what then just stop for a while. Like what just about every other poster in this thread has said.

You'll be back soon Lime

The situation you`re in is probarbly a result of you playing to WIN instead of playing to IMPROVE during your way up to 2600. Think about that...

yup, im losing alot more often now to all in marine/scv rushes more than ever before.

i'm on like an 8 losing streak right now, and i haven't played in like a week. i think the best thing is to just take a break, or play some custom melee against bad players

On a more personal note, Limenade, You are a great player. Dont let these losses get you down. In my opinion, just take this weekend off and come back with a fresh perspective monday. I guarantee after a few days without the 'craft you will be play much much better and your games and practice will be much more efficient.

on a side note, I'm using a different account on sc2 now but i'll hit you up on it soon, if you think you need some practice just msg me.

Whats helps me is that I take a break and watch streams of good players playing my race. Something U might notice something that he/she does that can help me improve.

Personally when I get on a loosing streak i do 5 things -

1. Brake something in blind rage

2. take a hour brake

3. watch latest day 9

4. Play in my random 3 v 3 where i had bombed my placements ( Bronze league ftw )

5. play 10 1 v 1 custom games if I don't win at least 6/10 return to step 1

Just take a few days off, come back, play some random team games like 3v3's and 4v4's as well as some customs and just see how your play feels. If you're feeling good, go back to laddering, if not, keep playing customs and stuff. Maybe you need to switch up your style or learn some new builds or something?

Anyways to help you; the number ONE reason why people go on losing streaks, is because instead of thinking about the game they're in now, they're still thinking about the last game they lost, resulting in them not concentrating and doing very stupid mistakes.

There's so much truth in it, I can't even emphazise it enough!

It did happen to me a lot - you NEED to be able to focus 100% on the game you're in right now, if you can't do it stop playing, lie down and think about your loss.
Most times you'll think about your loss when you lost against some stupid stuff and are angry. Like when I lose vs double proxy 10 gate in PvP I tend to forget my chrono-boost on 13, or take a late gas in the next match because I'm still not focussed enough. This is bad, very bad.

It might just have to do with your strategies/bo's. I've found that strategies get outdated really quick right now and suddenly shit doesn't work at all anymore.

How the clock do you loose 600 points??? Seriously?
You either cant focus on the game because of some personal issues or you lost one of your hands (which would count as a personal issue as well I guess). I just cant imagine that happening. Falling 100-150 points, ok, playing 5 hours and then end up right where you started, ok, but loosing that many points??

I wouldnt feel too bad. I know how once you're high enough playing feels like you have to bring 100% or it's not worth it but:
a) It's just points
b) Gives you a chance to work on your play without the pressure.

This happened to me. Sick to my stomach, never wanted to play again, dropping dozens of games in a row (~450 points in well under 2 weeks).

What I did was take a break for a week or two. Somewhere in there I caught the GSL, (bought the season ticket) watched intently.
Started catching Day9 and some other caster / analysis.
Started reading up on forums.

Suddenly I was itching to play again. But I was rusty and intimidated.

So I played on Brutal single player, got some achievements, played a few customs, then team games.

Before I knew it I just HAD to play some 1v1.

Sure I lost my first 5-6 games, as you'd expect, but I was chilled and had inspiration, and before I knew it I had won 30 in a row, then after a period of pretty good consistency I got rank 1 in my div.

This cycle has occurred more than once

The other important thing is to realise your points mean shit. If you are really way better than the level you're at, you will start crush some nerds and rank up swiftly. If you are about where you should be, don't be upset, just enjoy the game and learn to be better. As long as you win 50/50 you shouldn't get enraged again. When you do, take a walk for a day or two.

As long as you're above 2100 or so currently, you're bloody good, and you're not a pro-gamer. Everything else is just e-peen. Enjoy being a participant in the game and what it gives you, and if you are really improving you can start using your ranking as a rough metric of that. But it's not a very accurate one unless your matchmaking is consistently the roster of MLG.

God did I laugh.

Also, has some truth attached to it. If I lose 4 in a row my next openent is getting a healthy dose of cheese. It reminds me that ladder should be fun and usually breaks the streak. Once you're out of a streak you're in the clear.
