I’d obviously prefer us to gap ‘em, but I think coming away within touching distance of this Barca side is a decent result for us

Game on.

Yeah that was a fantastic first half. Yamal wow.

Been a fantastic game not just first half. Barcelona has had their dominant stretches but Inter has looked real dangerous at times. 3 cm offside goal.

2 of those years Arteta’s Arsenal pushed City pretty close in genuine title races. This current one, they’re adrift domestically while still being the closest challenge, but they’ve gone very deep in Europe. One year they almost unexpectedly won the FA Cup and you’ve 2 seasons of building there.

Latter day Wenger sides weren’t doing either of those things. The last time they had a realistic sniff of a title, in Leicester’s year with a not especially formidable points total to try and best, they didn’t do it.

Not to denigrate Wenger’s past achievements, nor give Arteta a pass either but this is just nonsense.

Yamal is incredible. If he doesn’t improve with age at all he’s still already amongst the very best at 17, that’s crazy. He’s better than Messi was at that age. I’m not sure that means he’s better than mid-20s Messi but if he’s even remotely close that’s a hell of a player.

I forgot how much I hate watching football when I have an emotional stake in it! Phew that was a ride, and there’s really nothing that compares in quality to a latter stage CL tie

I said before I think of the teams left, Barca are the best stylistic matchup for us and I stick by that. I think Arsenal are more equipped to grind a game out by any measure, and PSG just zip the ball around at such pace while not playing such a crazily exploitable high line.

Fingers crossed from my end that the boost of home advantage can see us through the tie, but even if we can’t I think Inter have shown yet again they’re a tier above other Italian sides and a genuinely elite European side.

If you look at the history of Arsenal there's nothing untypical about Arteta's time in charge.
He's just your standard Arsenal manager trying to do it with a team that isn't quite the best.
Not to say he hasn't done well at times, but the old frailties seem to always come back to haunt Arsenal.

Wenger has won a trophy around every 2 years (FA cups). Arteta hasnt won anything by himself. The FA cup was won with Emery's setup and squad.

Did latter day Wenger challenge at the business end of a PL tilt or the CL?

No he didn’t, so I think this comparison is bollocks. Was Ten Haag doing a job worth of Ferguson nicking an FA Cup while being complete also-rans in the league and in Europe?

Emery came close but he didn’t win anything at Arsenal either.

They’ve faltered this season in the league, equally they’ve faltered less than every other side bar Liverpool. They might yet pull back a European top level semi and make a CL final.

The idea that Arteta’s stewardship falls short of the last Wenger years is utterly ridiculous

Best game of football in 2025 by a mile, what a great advert for football as a whole. Why all teams think you need to play this pass from keeper, side to side rubbish. Look at Inter, where they negative and horrible to watch? No where they hell, they were fantastic and so technical and so very fast on the breaks with great passing.

Then barca, high line and very good technical players as well, not boring passes, passes that mean something, attacking ones!

AMAZING game of football, hats off to both teams.

The UEFA mafia at it again in the Bilbao vs United match. How is that a penalty and a red card ?
I can see a penalty if the referee really, really wants to give it. However the red card is a disaster.
Now the game is ruined and the semifinal is over

Spanish teams and blaming the referee. Name a more iconic combination.

If your back line makes Harry Maguire look like Lamine Yamal then you probably have bigger problems than the ref.

Challenging doesn't matter for history... In 10+ years only trohpies are remembered. ManUtd or Spurs will win a trophy, Arsenal will miss out again

Man that Barca vs Inter game was game of the year hands down. Incredible display from two powerhouses. And Yamal.... my my, what a player. I really hope he doesn't pick up any major injury because the kid is truly special.

It matters for now though.

Unless it’s a big underdog like a Wigan or a Portsmouth, I’d wager more people could tell you about Keegan’s entertainers from 30 years ago off the top of their head than reel off every FA Cup winner of the past 20.

Hell, Inter may finish empty-handed, but I’ll sure remember what’s already been a great season down the line I imagine!

Arsenal are back competing consistently at the top tables, they weren’t before, that is progress. Now, they still need to make that next step and seal a deal or two, for sure. Whether Arteta’s the guy or not to do that, we’ll have to wait and see.

I hope he has a very, very minor injury for next week. What a player!

But nah with my neutral/appreciator of the game hat on I do hope we see both sides as close to full strength as possible and may the best side win on the night!

Hopefully Inter, but I’m not confident. That said I still think as good as they are Barca are a good match for us in a ‘styles make fights’ sense

Napoli are 3 points clear of Inter with 3 games to go.

Three bottom half sides remaining, definitely in the box seat.

I think we needed to build a sufficient lead/break Napoli before we got to this phase of the season. They’ve the easier fixture list and are something like 17 games fresher.

Grats to them if they can pull it off, not every day Napoli win the Scudetto! I still think we’re the best side in Italy this season all told

Might be misremembering a podcast factoid but would also make Conte the first to win 3 titles with different Italian side, not bad.

Wonder if it’s just the wheels of fashion, you don’t hear many links of a Conte or an Inzaghi to other top European gigs

Napoli bought ManUtd's strongest midfielder in McTominay and I remember most of Utd's fanbase being happy about it lol

The guy single-handely beat Spain and qualified Scotland for a majour tournament and yet Utd think hes only worth 30mil

Looks like Trent Alexander-Arnold is heading to Real Madrid. A bit sad to see him go and it's going to be hard for Liverpool to find any similar player. We'll see how they find the creativity elsewhere.

What really puzzles me is how he'll fit into Real Madrid. They're already struggling a bit with modern pressing stuff because Mbabbe and Vini don't contribute much there and Bellingham would likely also prefer to focus on attacking contributions. Now you're bringing another attacking minded player in to the roster. Whoever is going to be in Real's midfield is going to be very busy covering for them.

I guess it's another Real Madrid move that doesn't click for me at all. Some of these have worked, others a bit less so. We'll see how this one goes. It could be a rough balancing act for Xabi Alonso or whoever manages them next season.
