So the Magic traded Oladipo and Sabonis for T.Ross and a late-first round this year? Hmm...

edit: Their mgmt. might be as bad as the Pelicans.

It is now clear beyond any shadow of a doubt that Lebron is a vampire who feeds off his teammates. There is no other explanation for the rapid deterioration of Lebron teammates over the last decade while Lebron remains healthy. They are like Dorian Grey's picture.

it is weird that such an aggressive defender like LBJ never gets hurt.

to clarify Toronto has two 1st round picks this year. Their own and the Clippers pick . Orlando gets the lesser valued of the 2 picks.

nah, they ain't goin' for a championship. they are just no longer stock-piling 1st rounders; The Raptors bench is the polar opposite of the bench of a team aiming to win a title. here is the age of the raptors bench 21, 21 22, 23, 24, 24, 24, 25, 27.

Patterson has ~900 career playoff minutes. Joseph has ~750. They are both mediocre at best playoff performers with not much of a track record. The rest of the Raptors bench has zero playoff experience. when you're going for a title you need veteran, proven, playoff producers who can handle playing a role. The Raptors bench is filled with developing youngsters.

Ujiri is reacting to Derozan and Lowry getting pissed off about the team stock-piling 1st rounders and filling the bench with guys who get carded by security when they try to go into the Brass Rail strip club.

This move is more about retaining Lowry than anything. Lowry is pissed off and is 1 step short from openly feuding with Casey.

I think both Jimmys are right in this instance. Masai doesn't want to go through a rebuild as evidenced by the signing. He's a smart cookie and knows the Cavs are a long way ahead but the East is still really open. If Lebron goes down it's open for the taking. Ibaka increases their title window chances maybe 1 or 2 per cent but it will also help him retain a strong team and give him longer term job security. Tear downs are a painful process and take a long time to reach any sort of fruition (and even then, will they get better than they are now? It's called the Lottery for a reason!).

So yeah. I think the Raps are content being the new version of the Iso Joe Hawks.

I agree with JimmiC. I mainly think it's a win-now move when it's a player whose contract is up at the end of the year (though they have a good chance to resign him if they want).

The Raps have a +13 net rating (per 100 possessions) with Patterson on the court and -. 5 w/o him (per kpelton). Even though I think Patterson is equal or even a little better now than Ibaka, they are pretty similar players so it looks good for Raps.

Let's just hope they don't overpay for this "28"year old who has had a career arc of a player in his 30s now.

Ibaka and Deng are my guesses for who were the thon Makers of their day boy

the age of the Raptors bench last year versus this year tells you what Ujiri is up to. And it ain't "win now". No one wins with a bench this young. Their ECF appearance required 2 razor thin 7 game series wins. Also, even they win the EC they have zero chance of beating whoever comes out of the West. Ujiri knows this and he is filling up his team with youngsters.

The day Lewieke was hired the Raptors were legitimately going for a championship. The Canadian dollar was at par with the US dollar.

Lewieke is gone. The Canadian dollar is at $0.75. The Ontario economy is anemic. MLSE is pulling back spending. Ujiri knows how little he will be allowed to spend next year. The marching orders from MLSE is to turn the Raptors into the 1999-2004 Leafs. Lots of home playoff dates with no will to spend the kind of money required to make the team a title contender.

Ujiri placates Lowry and keeps MLSE happy all with 1 move. Probability of the Raptors winning a championship is zero and Ujiri knows this better than everybody which is why the Raptors bench has gotten substantially younger since last year.

The Raptors are an injury prone team with a bench of youngsters.

my original statement is : the Raptors are not going for a championship with this move. and they ain't.

who is behind their Center and power forward? Poetl, Siakam and Bebeh. those 3 guys can't even handle the chicago bulls. they are getting chewed up and spit out ... .again. And. Ujiri ain't stupid... he sees this and knows his own guys. Casey won't give Sullinger any more minutes because he is too fat. LOL. Again Ujiri knows this.

is Ujiri trying to land a few more playoff home dates to keep Lowry and MLSE happy? yes.
is Ujiri going for it all? no, not even close.

On February 15 2017 10:48 JimmiC wrote:
Despite the assumptions you treat as facts, this move clearly makes the raptors better now then they were yesterday and probably weaker next year or in 3 years if they sign Ibaka. The east's power structure is also as weak as it has been since before the big three was created in Boston. It's really wide open when you consider how old the cavs are and with there 2nd or 3rd best player injured it will be tough. I'd also say that despite the age difference LBJ would trade his bench for the Raps bench in a second. You're the only one who would rather have a ancient RJ then a springy young norman powel.
This could be there only move and they would still be the second favorite to come out of the east, that is fairly win now. Is it a crazy all in, no.

i'm talking about what Ujiri knows about his own team. Not what Vegas is speculating. And I am not talking about Winning the eastern conference i am talking about winning an NBA title. Specifically, this statement.

But, after this trade do you think that they are the second best team in the east?

Sullinger is too fat. Poetle and Siakam look lost. Powell playing major minutes at the 3 at 6'4"? really? is Carroll's hand still fucked? Lowry plays such aggressive defense he is always getting nicks and scrapes every year. This is the only year he has not gotten hurt and played with the injury; as a result he is having a career year shooting. Lowry is an injury ticking time bomb.

on the bright side, Bebeh has developed nicely from an average D-League player into a nice back up NBA front court player.

i think their injury prone lineup will have someone get hurt and the ultra young bench won't be able to step in like it could last year. Last year's bench was more of a "win now" bench.

so, no, i do not think the Raptors are the #2 team in the East.

I'm talking about the arrogance you show when you post that you KNOW what "Ujiri" knows about his team. Like you using his first name means you have sort of insiders perspective. You are a fan (maybe?) making assumptions. The only difference between you and the rest of us is you believe your own BS.

LOL, Ujiri is his last name. thx for the laugh man. are you going to go on a Nate Diaz rant again ... when i'm talking about Nick Diaz.

i'll just stick by my original comments about the Raptors at the very start of the year. With the bench getting even younger and even less experienced than in October .... any injury to any starter is gonna kill this team.
