The D-league, at best, gives us a few bench players a season. whiteside and barnes are starters. 15 years ago the d-league started with 8 teams. now more than 1/3 of all NBA players spent time in the D-league; every NBA team is scrambling to acquire a team or improve its affiliation with a team. the new CBA makes 2-way contracts possible for 2 roster spots on an NBA team. the very best baseball players and hockey players spend very little time in the minors. it'll be the same for basketball even with a fully fleshed out minor league system. the 1 exception to that is the starting pitcher in baseball... it takes years to develop several pitches. has there ever been a phenom-superstar 18 year old starting pitcher? 20?

The baseball minor league is needlessly bloated and overly complicated. If they were re-starting baseball it would be AAA only. anyhow, for basketball there is no real equivalent to the baseball starting pitcher so i don't think we'll see a minor league system that goes 5 leagues deep. but, i would not be surprised to see an NBA minor league system that is more extensive than the NHL's minor league system.

The Raptors had 2 players who played 2 games today. 1 in the D-League and 1 in the NBA. I wonder if the new CBA will continue to allow that?

-It was too loud. Take noise canceling headphones. -I was surprised at how many Spurs fans there were, a quarter to a third, but maybe that's just a Texas thing. -The court seems small. I think they should increase the size by maybe a few feet each way. -Watching it in person makes you really focus on the game, imo. It doesn't have the "hollywood" sheen as on TV. It's just another game like at the Rec. -Kawaii has huge hands. Ginobili is so beautiful. I wanted to go kiss his beautiful bald head. He's a magical unicorn. -Threes are way more entertaining on TV than live. They just feel so cheap, especially if there's no play or set up. -It's so irritating watch Harden flail out a three every time he gets bumped. If you aren't already in the process of taking a shot when you get bumped, you shouldn't get free throws. There's going to be a special room in Hell reserved for Paul Pierce and James Harden.

No Love and no Smith for the next little while. The Cavaliers will have a rough time if LBJ takes a game day off. http://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/18325456/cleveland-cavaliers-guard-jr-smith-need-surgery-fractured-thumb

I don't think anybody who watches the games would think he is more important than kyrie, but he is hella entertaining. IDK, I doubt they can lose the East with either (or both) out, I doubt they can win the Finals with either out (exception being replacement in a trade). Scoring 1/2s that are meh defenders can be substituted on a Lebron team with little dropoff if the subsitute can shoot 3s.

If that's not coasting then I don't know what is. Sitting out games when you're not hurt is a new phenomenon, probably popularized by Pop. I don't remember seeing that in the late-90s/2000s. Only after that shortened lockout season with all those injuries. In Michael Jordan's last 3 years with the Bulls he played every game of every season, averaged more MPG than LeBron is playing now, and he was older than LeBron is now. There were moments like this in the last cavs game that were pretty easy to spot if you watched the game in a non-casual more analytical way.

if someone can point to any 3 minute stretch of game time where LBJ is aimlessly wandering around doing nothing i'd love to see the video footage. if you want to make up a reason to criticize LBJ, have fun.
