That IMO would create a worse form of tanking at the end of the season for the 8/7 slots.

Toronto outscored Orlando 66-26 since Meeks got a 5 minute major for elbowing Lowry. let a sleeping team sleep.

15 years ago the d-league started with 8 teams. now more than 1/3 of all NBA players spent time in the D-league; every NBA team is scrambling to acquire a team or improve its affiliation with a team. the new CBA makes 2-way contracts possible for 2 roster spots on an NBA team.

the very best baseball players and hockey players spend very little time in the minors. it'll be the same for basketball even with a fully fleshed out minor league system. the 1 exception to that is the starting pitcher in baseball... it takes years to develop several pitches. has there ever been a phenom-superstar 18 year old starting pitcher? 20?

The baseball minor league is needlessly bloated and overly complicated. If they were re-starting baseball it would be AAA only.

I don't think teams would tank and give up millions of dollars in revenue for a 7% shot at first pick.

Its more like a 20% chance at a top 3 pick, and I think teams would do it for sure.

no, baseball is where it needs to be. starters need years. and that ain't changing. how old is Thor/Syndergaard? he spent 6 years in the minors. Gillick and Friedman have the formula for manufacturing starters and its a 4 year plan. As long as starting pitchers take to develop.. tall starters take even longer.

anyhow, for basketball there is no real equivalent to the baseball starting pitcher so i don't think we'll see a minor league system that goes 5 leagues deep. but, i would not be surprised to see an NBA minor league system that is more extensive than the NHL's minor league system.

It really depends. Some teams want to make the playoffs badly because they haven't for years (I remember the Bulls being like this in the mid 2000s, That Scott Skiles team was a breath of air after being really bad for a while, but then after getting bounced without really being a threat to win the conference for a while you are looking for something else (D-Rose was supposed to be that thing). I'd trade this Bulls team being in the playoffs for a chance to not have an idiot point guard, or to have more than one 2-way player on the team.

LBJ loafing around again.. only 47 minutes of playing time. With Love and JR Smith not playing in the 2nd half i'm sure Lebron just stood around in the low post all night and did nothing.

The Raptors had 2 players who played 2 games today. 1 in the D-League and 1 in the NBA. I wonder if the new CBA will continue to allow that?

Popped my NBA game cherry tonight at the Rockets-Spurs game.

-It was too loud. Take noise canceling headphones.
-I was surprised at how many Spurs fans there were, a quarter to a third, but maybe that's just a Texas thing.

-The court seems small. I think they should increase the size by maybe a few feet each way.
-Watching it in person makes you really focus on the game, imo. It doesn't have the "hollywood" sheen as on TV. It's just another game like at the Rec.
-Kawaii has huge hands. Ginobili is so beautiful. I wanted to go kiss his beautiful bald head. He's a magical unicorn.
-Threes are way more entertaining on TV than live. They just feel so cheap, especially if there's no play or set up.
-It's so irritating watch Harden flail out a three every time he gets bumped. If you aren't already in the process of taking a shot when you get bumped, you shouldn't get free throws. There's going to be a special room in Hell reserved for Paul Pierce and James Harden.

JR Smith needs surgery on his fractured thumb. The Cavaliers are not setting a recovery timeline until after the surgery so this prolly ain't no arthoscope he is prolly getting cut wide open. Smith has not played that great this year battling a knee injury. The Cavaliers are worse without him, but only marginally so because Smith has not played that great. Liggins prolly replaces JR Smith. Liggins has looked good when LBJ plays with him and "meh" when LBJ is not on the floor.

No Love and no Smith for the next little while. The Cavaliers will have a rough time if LBJ takes a game day off.

Africa Academy: a new way to stock up the D-league and continue to erode the power base of the NCAA

maybe they can trade Corey Cluber for Matthew Dellavadova and convert him to shooting guard.

IDK, I doubt they can lose the East with either (or both) out, I doubt they can win the Finals with either out (exception being replacement in a trade). Scoring 1/2s that are meh defenders can be substituted on a Lebron team with little dropoff if the subsitute can shoot 3s.

LBJ "coasting" through another regular season game drawing more contact as he drives through the lane more than the rest of the Cavaliers starting lineup combined. More minutes than any other Cavalier after playing 42 minutes 2 days ago. last game, Irving was in foul trouble early and JR SMith hurt LBJ carried the team for long stretches.

what game are the people watching who make these "LBJ is coasting" comments. maybe he coasts against philly and brooklyn.

on another note, i guess LBJ really wants to stuff those "posse" comments down Jackson's throat with a curb stomp of a win.

EDIT: is Vegas giving Odds on whether or not a Green flying foot will connect with Griffin's family jewels. watching them jostle under the basket it really feels like its only a matter of time.

He's averaging fewer ppg than any season since his rookie year and he's already sat out a game just to rest. If that's not coasting then I don't know what is. Sitting out games when you're not hurt is a new phenomenon, probably popularized by Pop. I don't remember seeing that in the late-90s/2000s. Only after that shortened lockout season with all those injuries. In Michael Jordan's last 3 years with the Bulls he played every game of every season, averaged more MPG than LeBron is playing now, and he was older than LeBron is now.

There were moments like this in the last cavs game that were pretty easy to spot if you watched the game in a non-casual more analytical way.

LBJ has taken rest games... so does every NBA player seeking the championship. This ain't 1996. There is more to the game than PPG. LBJ has played 930 minutes this year. Which Cavalier has played more than 930 minutes this year? I've watched ~200 of those minutes and i've seen zero loafing. LBJ's intensity increases in the playoffs just like it does for the vast majority of NBA players.

if someone can point to any 3 minute stretch of game time where LBJ is aimlessly wandering around doing nothing i'd love to see the video footage.

if you want to make up a reason to criticize LBJ, have fun.
