its hard to keep the game an all-out, run-and-gun track meet for 48 minutes.
when the game eventually slows down to 5-on-5 with set offense and defense Minnesota players don't have the experience to know how to react. in terms of pure athletic talent they are close to Toronto and maybe even more talented. Joseph, Lowry, and Derozan are not any more athletically gifted than Minnie's best guys but they made better decisions in the 5-on-5 set game. Its hard to make a game an all out track meet for 48 minutes. While it was an all-out end-to-end "track meet" Minnesota was outplaying Toronto. any how.. that's my theory as to why Minnie seemed to fade as the game wore on tonight.
Also, isn't the Minnesota coach one of these guys who loves slow plodding basketball and yet the team operates best when its a minimal amount of 5-on-5 set play?
and for other readers please note this message is in the indicative mood.

Harden and Westbrook are both putting up ridiculous numbers this season but also worth noting their high number of touches has put them both on pace to shatter the NBA record for turnovers in a season (a record set by Harden last year).

I know Westbrook is compensating for no KD this year, but this game felt like was one of the prime examples KD left. Why Westbrook continues to chuck contested 3's is still beyond me.

same reason as kobe, they both think that them taking a contested 3 has a better chance of going in than any one of the 4 other players shooting

Interesting fact I heard from Mark Cuban on Shark Tank... Mavericks haven't had a losing season since he bought the team in 2000. Only other team with a streak that long is the Spurs, who haven't had a losing season since they drafted Timmy in '97.

Olynyk should be on the Vancouver Canucks.. he is a dirty hockey player. I wish Biyombo were still on the team.

Edit" I know stats "don't matter" but DWS and DPM Thompson is top 30 in the league. the aggression is absurd given that you half read my posts.

for the 3rd time: i never claimed he was "floating too much". you are half reading my stuff again. i'll repeat this again: i am not in the huddle. i don't know what sets are being called. my comment is, was, and continues to be this: when the Cavs defense is weak TT is seen wandering all over the floor. This may or may not be part of some kind of defensive scheme the team is calling for. So now you've read that for the 3rd time. When Thompson is wandering all over the floor ( which might be by the coach's request ...did u read that?) he reminds me of my favourite centre now playing in the Upper Boldovia Elite League. For all i know TT is doing zero floating and is merely executing a team defensive plan.

the TT discussion arose from whether or not LBJ is coasting this year. They've played 20 games this year at the time of my comment. I've watched 6 full games and about 1/3rd of all Cavs playing time. If someone has watched a substantial amount of Cleveland's playing minutes this year i'd be interested to hear their theories and ideas about Thompson wandering all over the floor.

I've never said stats don't matter. i did say personal observation plus stats are a far more effective way of judging a team. Any one can google stats and regurgitate them on here.

you continually half read my stuff. if you think my posting history is a problem take it to website feedback.

you are misquoting me. these are my exact quotes: "in terms of pure athletic talent they are close to Toronto and maybe even more talented." "While it was an all-out end-to-end `track meet` Minnesota was outplaying Toronto."
i have not watched enough Minnesota to firmly conclude whether or not they are more athletically gifted than Toronto. which is why i say "maybe" in my post. i require more observation time than 48 minutes of game time. they appeared more athletically gifted against Toronto in this one game as my post reflects.
Had Powell and Siakam played more Toronto would've been trying to challenge Minnesota on the level of pure athleticism and we would've seen a truer test. Toronto chose to slow the game down and leaned on far less athletic players. So with just 1 game and Powell and Siakam playing a combined 17 minutes i'm not going to make any firm conclusions. if you want to add more info to what i've posted about Minnesota there is no need to turn it into a confrontation.

But are they as gifted as our overlords the Raptors? Good question. And do we have enough research to suggest that they can't shoot from outside as well the warriors. And are there shots missing long, short or side to side because apparently that also matters. They miss to the left a lot, but we need more research to be sure if that is just the rotation of the earth.

i'm impressed westbrook kept his mouth shut in what has got to be a very frustrating game. that was a pretty bad non-call. The more i watch Boston the more i think they're a dirty team.
in my post i discussed the athleticism of both teams in their entirety; not just 3 players. Speaking of 3 players ...caboclo , siakam, and powell are the most athletically gifted Raptors. They saw a combinted 17 minutes of playing time against Minnie. For any continued, productive, detailed discussion about evaluating a team's athleticism a definition is required. Without a clear definition detailed, productive discussion can not occur.
i highly suspect the discussion about a team's athleticism will end here though because i suspect productive discussion is not the goal of the other poster.
