Wow sounds nice! Will definitely watch it!
But... $60 only to watch starcraft? Are there some goodies included or is it just the venue admission? Sounds pretty high, more than I normally spend on concerts..

So im guessing itll be 4 matches on the first day and then the semis, third place match, grand final the next day. Should be pretty cool hope everyone has fun who ends up going. 60 dollars tho is sort of pricy for a two-day event but I guess we'll see how it turns out

What other events are going on at the same time? It seems strange to have only top 8 again.

What's the source on this? I know TLPD said that, but it has been reverted to 0-0 in both the division standings and the week by week.

MMA got the walkover over Stephano. Stephano couldn't make his match time and MMA elected to take the forfeit win.

Forgive me for not following close enough, but who is competing at the event?

So soon after an already stacked November? I also figured there would be more hype. Previous seasons got incredible amounts of hype, this one, not so much.

60 bucks is a lot... considering ipl5 is 30 for a 3 day wknd and mlg championships are usually 30-40 bucks for a 3 day wknd as well. I will wait and see if they reduce prices or offer other things to make the drive worth it

Feels really suspicious for a tournament to not have a prize pool announced at the beginning of one, considering they have had one set each before.

I am expecting a massive disappointment in prize money when the finals actually starts. Something that will make some of the players regret playing throughout this whole tournament.

they didn't announce it last season either, and that ended up being 100k as well iirc. no reason to believe this one will be anything otherwise

Something tells me TSL's best Terran and best Zerg* won't be able to attend the playoffs if TSL wins their GSTL match on Friday...

(I say HyuN is the best Zerg because Symbol has said it in a lot of his interviews...)

GOM would probably push it back/forward. December is a pretty open month besides maybe Blizzard Cup, so I wouldn't be surprised if TSL makes it that that they push the finals back a week.

GSL was specifically moved to today so that GSL players could participate in Dream Hack. But I don't know if NASL would be 'big enough' for GOM to notice.

What kind of chairs exactly? Crappy plastic garden chairs, or actual ones? Some people in the LR threads were complaining about the chairs quality at the WCS finals.

I can't help but feel like they are shooting themselves in the foot with the price of $60. Obviously if you are traveling to NASL from outside of California the ~$30 isn't that big but some people in the area that could drive from home will see it as a deal breaker. Also the amount of games for the cost seems a little steep. Wish em luck.

I went to NASL 1 and 2. Had a great time at both and was sad to see see it go to Canada for season 3. However I'm not sure why it costs so much this season. For 2 ipl5 tickets and a $100 Stratosphere room its about $200(before taxes) but just the 2 Nasl tickets will cost me $140 (also before taxes)... Maybe it looks like vegas is the deal... Anyone know why it's so pricey this year?

?even Without forfeiting Stephano could loose and not making it to the wildcards...and even in the wildcards he could fall...
As a running champion his 4 4 record shows that he was not focussing on the NASL at all...
+ potentially we ll get Naniwa instead.

Because GOM and like 70+ people are leaving to Vegas in a few days for IPL5. They wouldn't be able to do the semifinals next week or the week after because of IPL5/GSL + Ro24 Code A right after that.

Sorry to be a negative nancy but I've got to echo and reiterate some complaints here.

Having only top 8 instead of top 16 in NASL 3's offline finals was a questionable choice, but at least it had WCS Canada and the CSL. This season has...? And when you've got IPL5 just 2 weeks before that has the GSL Ro4/Finals and the GSL World Championship at a $50 general admittance price tag, you've got to wonder about the $60 price for this.

Stephano getting walkovered and out of competion for this season's finals is a real shame. I suppose it's nobody's fault but his own, but still it's tough seeing him go out this season with 2 of his losses being walkovers, and the other two against players he's definitely better than on paper.

This season overall has been a scheduling disaster, so many walkovers and reschedulings. Did the NASL do something different this season about scheduling matches or were the players just uncharacteristically busy/irresponsible?

wait so the event is 2 weeks away from this weekend? 2.5 weeks from today? Isn't that a bit late to announce it since I don't think a lotta people can schedule for that so late apart from people who live closeby or already planned to go to NASL despite the dates and were just ready to book tickets anytime.

Just feels a bit late of an announcement for grand finals. Ro8 to finals is only 7 matches for $60 or $90...so $8.50~ per match or $13 per match for premium...That's a bit pricey...

Edit: 8 matches since i forgot about 3rd place match...but still pricey...

The date of the finals was announced a month ago. You are making it sound like they announced it today.

I've made it out to Season 2 and 3 finals but I don't know if I can really afford to come down to Long Beach for a top 8 with a price of $70 for a ticket.

Wow 60 dollars just to watch 8 matches does seem expensive, I couldn't go even if I wanted to, but 60$ seems a little to much for again only 8 matches.

I'm disappointed DRG didn't take NASL seriously and has 3 forfeits.

Maybe I forgot how to read, but I'm pretty sure NASL is 60 dollars not 70. It even says so in the first post. IPL 5 is 50 dollars advance or 60 at the door. You quoted NASL as 10 higher and IPL as 10 lower.

EDIT: IPL5 and NASL4 are both 60 dollars, IPL5 is 50 if you buy in advance. There's no 90, 70, 40, 35, etc

Well, if you actually try to buy an NASL ticket online, ticketmaster has a $10.20 service charge, bringing the price to $70.20. IPL's ticket sales are done through their venue's website, and there is no service charge.

I have never known GOM to push back a finals date ever. Also, this might be held at an actual venue outside the GOM studio, in which case it would definitely be impossible to delay it due to the location already booked by now.

Anyways, If TSL makes it to the finals, this will be how it goes down. They will send Polt and Hyun regardless to the NASL. TSL will survive just fine with Symbol and friends against whomever.

the total is $70.20 after service charge. IPL 5 was $40 for a long time. They also gave away 2500 free tickets. I guess now its $50 but you had plenty of chances to pay $40 or get in free.

NASL 4 has been pretty good this season. Best of luck for the finals, but I also think $60 entrance price is too high for not much content.

Does anyone hate the fact that NASL call their top 16/top 8 "grand finals" whereas every other SC2 tournament refers to grand finals as the top 2 going at it?

This is at a fine arts theater. That's the reason for the higher price. Also, there are limited seats, only some 800 at the venue so that's going to affect the price as well.

Make sure you take advantage of the LABite promo code for $20 off. I had already bought my tickets the day these went on sale, so I can't use the code =(

$40 for a seat that has a perfect view? That's worth it imo.

Why would i ever want to pay for hd pass to watch nasl? DH always has free hd streams. Seems to me they should emulate, at least a bit, the best foreign sc2 tour there is.

Sadly, going to have to miss the Ro16 since we're travelling to IPL5 then. 3G service to Vegas isn't that good. =(

Man, NASL's ticket pricing is out of the roof...jeeze...70 bucks for a mere general admission.....
Even IPL in Vegas was 30 bucks and I went to both of them cuz tickets were affordable.
Only if they lower their price to like 40 bucks then I might consider cuz its like 20 min drive for me...

remember WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY back when Incontrol promised $400,000 in prizes over 3 seasons and only $300K got handed out during those 3 seasons.

govern yourselves accordingly.

it would be worse if they outright lied and then never handed out any prize money at all. at least they are not doing that.

Right, because if on one end there's advertising $400k and they made good on it, and on the other end there's advertising $400k and they gave zero prize money, then yeah the record-breaking $300k they awarded over the first three seasons is outright deception to the community.

I don't recall Stephano complaining about his prize winnings at the S3 Finals. And since prize money only affects the players and since the NASL prize pool was still record-breaking for Western SC2, then perhaps your warning is just perhaps a little misleading? Maybe?

As to the comments about ticket pricing, yes it's a bit higher than usual, but it's also a MUCH smaller venue with MUCH better seating, and those that appreciate that will pay it. Also, it's $60, not $70. For Styleworks79, if it's only 20 minutes away then you're saving yourself a lot of hotel and gambling money from IPL, so I guess you don't really have anything to complain about either.

Whiners. Sheesh.

400K does not equal 300K.
i do not like unfulfilled promises so i'm not attending; it'll be interesting to see how many people feel the same way.

We are only 4 days away from the start of the event.
all of this bickering and sniping back and forth would be avoided if they'd simply announce the prize pool.

Someone on TL.Net should start a poll called :

"Guess the NASL Season 4 Prize Pool"
if you come within $100 of the correct Prize Pool you get a free HD pass for NASL season 5.

I'd bet money that the "unfulfilled promise" has nothing to do with your absence, but sure, make any excuse that helps you sleep better at night

Do you also pick which Hockey game [well, if there was a NHL this year ] based on the players salaries? Do you root for the team whose owners have the cheapest tickets?

If so, well, you have bigger problems than the NASL.

a good example of this is watching the CFL versus the NFL.

The CFL rules are really cool with a much bigger field and more room for pure athletic ability.
The CFL game is more interesting and entertaining than the NFL.
THe big problem i have when watching the CFL is that there is a voice in the back of my head saying "these are not the best players in the world".

As cool as the 100th Grey Cup was but any NFL team given a couple of weeks to prepare could ROLL the Toronto Argonauts.

The best players go to where the best money is. I want to watch the best players.

Whether NASL will offer IPL, MLG and BWC style prize money is any one's guess.

NASL Already offers such prize pools.....

NASL was the first league in North America to offer a $100k prize pool and a $50,000 first prize back when MLG was offering a $15,000 first prize. Seasons 2 and 3 reduced first prize to $40,000 so that the prize money could be better distributed among all the competitors, but maintained the total $100k prize pool, and added increased travel cost coverage to all the players, and added prize money to all regular season matches.

Not sure what your grudge is against NASL. They're working to grow the sport and take care of both the players and the fans in the process.

Stop hating.

I'm just stunned that your entire weighting of the NASL is their prize pool, which doesn't affect you as a spectator at all.

Again it's like saying I'll watch or not watch the Stanley Cup based on how much of a bonus the players get if they win.

NOBODY (well except you apparently) chooses which events to watch based primarily on the prize pool, unless it's a brand new venture and the prize pool will determine if decent players are playing.

You already know TODAY who most of the players will be in the NASL Season 4 Finals because you've had a whole season to watch that come together.

Nobody is asking for your blind support. Your ONLY piece of missing information is the prize pool announcement.

That means it's not ACTUALLY why you're hating on NASL, it just means that's your EXCUSE for hating on NASL.

Dude, you literally posted right after mine, which mentions the already existing $20 off coupon which they've advertised on every episode of the show over the last few weeks, and also advised you where to go to find out information about cheaper tickets.

The prize pool is the same as last season, they've talked about it on stream, they just haven't issued press releases. It's really easy to get the impression that the people who complain a lot, aren't regular watchers of the show.

Even though it's more expensive, I'd so much rather go to NASL than MLG. Venue and everything is so much cleaner/nicer. In fact, the emptier it is, the more I'd enjoy it. Though, I'm more of the stay-home type anyway and live on the east coast.
Also, $60 for tickets isn't really expensive. If you spent 12 hours there, that would be $5/hour, which equates to about 6 movie tickets (2 hours for $10? Sometimes $20).
If only Naniwa could still be in the tournament.

Championship match if by chance I am still awake (europe). But not the rest of this meaningless day. Compare that to a Dreamhack weekend, where I just have the stream open for 12h straight, because something is always coming up -.-

You mean the very small venue that IPL5 was, which wasn't nearly filled up? These captures are ALL from the Championship Match at IPL5 in Vegas. I'd estimate seating in the venue was perhaps 500-600 and it looks to me that it was maybe at 2/3 capacity. Notice there's nobody sitting in the aisles because of no seats left like we saw at NASL S3 and MLG championship matches.

Please note that I'm not bagging on IPL, they do a great event and the emotional atmosphere was awesome. But so was it at recent MLGs and NASL Finals.

In a situation where there is a pefect ratio of tickets to seats 1:1 then there will always be empty seats, particularly over a longish event as people come and go over the event, especially something as huge as IPL5 where there is so much gong on outside the main stage. NASL is selling seats too so I imagine it would be pretty similiar to be honest. What is going to be different is that it's a theatre rather than a hall.

NASL S1 and S2 finals had lacklustre attendance.
S3 succeeded because it was in Toronto.

S3 was an amazing sell out because in SC2's history only 1 "major event" has been hosted in a 1st world country of 35 million people.

S4 will once again have mediocre enthusiasm and low crowd totals.

They should've returned to Toronto.

The PrizePool mystery could become a great story angle. The PrizePool for S4 could have a lore behind it similar to the Dark Templar.

LOL, first of all Jimmy, your "PrizePool mystery" was already debunked by several others. You really should let go of your hatred and let that silly premise go.

Secondly, S1 Finals were anything bug lackluster. There were about 1,000 people in the hall at peak, I think the venue itself even estimated 1,100. I know there was seating for about 700 and by the semis on Sunday it was standing room only and not much of that even. Hardly lackluster.

S2 Finals suffered from being not during the Summer and from having way too many seats. If you have 20,000 people in a stadium that holds 50,000 it's going to look empty. The mistake of S2 was that it should never have been setup for 3,200 people, but the organizers were trying to change the game, to give a 360° style arena experience and they raised the bar in production value, booth construction, player introduction and overall fan experience. Perhaps not a success in filling the seats, but a success in just about every other measurable way.

S3 Finals was successful for being the first major North American StarCraft II event held in Canada, but also because NASL raised the bar further YET AGAIN with production value, casting, etc.

S4 is in Los Angeles a market that's about 10X the size of Toronto, and in a venue smaller than Toronto. I'm betting it'll be a full house.

But you go right on and hate. Everyone sees through you at this point.

get your basic facts straight.
define "market".

its 16 million versus 6 million in terms of population.
shall we compare economic productivity numbers as well?
the International Centre, a larger venue, was sold out... and they kept selling tickets any way

NASL is themselves admitting they can't sell as many tickets by putting it in a smaller venue within a larger market.
Ironically, Russell stated 1 thing they could improve upon was having a larger venue than the S3 venue to support a larger audience.

Until there is an official statement from NASL about the PrizePool then there is no official prize pool amount.. so you can blab away all you want.

Well there were 180 matches played in the S3 league, same for S4 so that makes 360 matches. NASL offered to pay $150 per match so that alone accounts for $54,000 of your missing $100,000. It’s probably worth mentioning here that there were a total of 43 walkovers in these 360 games (21 in S3 and 22 in S4). I’m not sure if $150 was paid in the event of a walkover but even if it wasn’t I wouldn’t hold NASL accountable for that as they were still willing to put up the $150 had the match taken place.

There has also been 16 wildcard matches in the last two seasons which did involve prize money, though I can’t find what that amount is, so I can only speculate.
+ Show Spoiler +
following source from the NASL liquipedia page http://www.twitch.tv/onemoregametv/b/324601515?t=25m17s

There were also 14 Sunday showdown matches during season 3, each with a prize pool of $500 ($7,000 total). The Gauntlet (shown between S3 and S4) featured 83 matches each paying $75 and a finals with a $1500 prize pool ($7,725 total). Also the NASTL which took place early 2012 had a $10,000 prize pool. That totals to $78,725, there’s the undisclosed prize money from the 16 wildcard matches and there were a few show matches during S4 as well which undoubtedly involved prize money (stuff like the ROOT HotS show tournament)

Not going to lie, that still doesn't fully cover your 'missing $100,000 (I believe there's around £20,000 unaccounted for after including those extras). But you can't deny NASL isn't paying their do's. How many other tournaments/organisations offer that level of cash and spread in such a way that every player gets some form of compensation whilst still maintaining a top-heavy final prize pool to reward the winner.

***EDIT***

Hold up, actually doing the maths I get the following
$100,000 S1
$100,000 S2
$60,000 S3
$60,000 S4 assuming the prize pool is the same as S3 as this is unconfirmed at the moment
$78,725 from the ‘extras’ mentioned above

Total comes to $398,725
$1275 divided over 16 (wildcard matches) comes to just under $80 a match; and this is all assumption on my part, but going by NASL's track record I find it hard to believe that there would pay $80 for a wildcard match when they've been paying $150 per league match all season. If anything NASL have put more than the $400,000 you seem so hung up on. Probably some of it paid for by the unpaid walkover matches (again more assumption on my part). What exactly is the problem here?

***EDIT 2***

Okay, having trawled back a few more pages seems your actual concern is the fact that S4 finals prize pool hasn't been announced more than the actual prize pool distribution itself? Kind of makes my previous whole wall of text irrelevant but I'll leave it up regardless. I still think you've been a bit hard on a tournament that has for all intensive purposed really raised the bar for foreign tournaments (only Dreamhack tops them in my opinion and that's a totally different format). Guess everyone's entitled to their opinion though.

I was actually at IPL and me and my friend estimates that there were probably closer to 900-1000 seats for sc2. yeah towards the end, I think people were experiencing sc2 fatigue, but at it's peak (esp the gsl world championships) there were tons of people standing in the back with no seats.

great work compiling these #s.

NASL has given away a tonne of prize money, of that there is no dispute.
They did promise $400,000 to be given away throughout the course of 3 seasons.
They failed to fulfill that promise.

That said, I do not think NASL is a scheming team of fraud artists.

At the hotel now. 10th Floor with a decent view of the Performing Arts Center. The traffic was horrible getting down here from the desert, but expected for a Friday evening.

Watching KT vs EG-TL off a tethered phone and probably will play from SC2 on the 2nd laptop we brought. Not sure what we're doing for breakfast, but I'm pretty sure we'll be hitting up In-N-Out for early lunch on Sunday. If any want to tag along, I'll be taking SanchoPanda for his first burger there.

Sancho, you around bud?

i dont think its a sell out.
there might not even be 100 people there.

i have not seen 1 fan in the upper bowl that holds 600 people.
i've seen the lower bowl that holds 200 people and its half full at best.

so much for this big market that is "about 10X the size of Toronto"

There were around 300 of us there at peak. There were quite a lot of people in the top area that you couldn't see. The lighting is pretty poor up top. I couldn't see them until I actually walked up there.

Again, the event wasn't $60 for two days. You could have gotten a $20 discount on your ticket if you'd used the promo code. $40 for two days of entertainment is a good deal. Some of you are just cheap.

Some people disagree taht even 300 people show up.

approximately 110 according to these guys.
with NO ONE in the upper bowl.

The eSports Puppy is on the set though!

Hotbid and Slasher were searching for answers on how to get more people out to the event.

#1 rule of marketing is that your current customers are your best customer base.

They ignored the thousands in "Toronto" that showed up and paid the price they deserved to pay.
