About ESWC Grand Final ESWC Grand Final 2011 will take place during Paris Games Week from 21st to 24th October this year and will feature a total of $200,000 in cash prizes distributed accordingly between 7 tournaments.

History ESWC The history of ESWC can be split up in two parts. The brand was owned previously by Games-Services. They organized international standalone e-sports tournaments from 2003 until 2008. ESWC was for a long period of time the biggest and most prestigious e-sports tournament in the world. ESWC was one of the few organizers being able to organize standalone e-sports tournaments attracting then thousands of visitors. Only the WCG had better numbers in certain country's(Korea, Germany, China). Most e-sports history has been written on these ESWC events. Unfortunately NVIDIA pulled the plug in 2007. The organizers did the 2008 event but failed to find new sponsorship. Due to this, Games-Services went bankrupt and was not able to pay out its 2008 price money.
In 2009 the brand ESWC got bought by Games-Solution. It organized its 2010 event at Disneyland Paris. Many teams were skeptical, afraid that the event would be fake, they also demanded the new organization to pay out the old price money. ESWC was not forced by law to pay out the price money of the previous company but did published a bank guarantee. All teams attended and all winners got their price money few weeks after the event.
Now its 2011 and Games-Solutions organizes ESWC at the Paris Games Week. The company Oxent will be involved organizing the event. Oxent is owned by one of the previous owners of ESWC.

FAQ + Show Spoiler +Are Blizzcon and ESWC in the same weekend? Blizzcon and ESWC 2011 Grand Finals will collide this year. Nothing that we can do about this situation. ESWC is taking place during the fair Paris Games week and that was set long before Blizzcon was announced. This means that players that qualified for battle.net finales at Blizzcon will not be able to attend ESWC. Did ESWC never pay out their price money The current owners of ESWC always paid out their price money a few weeks after the event. The previous owners that went bankrupt were unable to pay out its 2008 event. Read the history part to know more. Why are there no notional qualifiers in my country? National qualifiers are organized by local partners. Local e-sports companies in most of the cases. These companies have been struggling to survive and are simply unable to organize local qualifications. 5 years ago it was a different economy and so its hard to find partners that are able to do this. Partners pay travel and hotel costs of winners of their qualification. The model that ESWC is using for qualification is not working as good as it used to be. That's why the application procedure and the online qualifications were put together in order to make sure teams and players are able to attend our event. What about the boycott that is currently going on The fee got removed and so there's no boycott. Do you have to pay to play in the online qualifiers? Yes you do, its 10 dollar/euro per person, Its done via paypal and visit the payment information on the portal for more information.

lol Incontrol is the only american to sign up. no one wants to touch this.

Idra and some other EG players signed up as well but didn't pay yet. I'm not worried for these guys, but maybe there are some others willing to try.

Hmm only Incontrol @ US? Try get 3 more people to participate at least
|
uhm... only incontrol for the US? xD

i'm pretty sure the list will get filled for US

Will the flight be paid for the people finishing top 2 of the qualifiers? If not, how many people are attending the grand finals?

Whoa lots of Israeli's! Good luck!

It looks like you adressed most of the concerns, good luck to the players who will try to qualify, should be a nice event but with MKP NADA and MC it's going to be tough.

This is huge!!!! Thank god latiamerican players will be able to get acomodation via online qualifiers :D

Moman is French and Spanish but currently lives in France and plays for a French team, so his flag should be changed.
on topic: ESWC last year wasnt great. And the French national qualifiers were all extremely messy and poorly organised. Also last year, a SC2 event was already organised at the Paris Games Week and it wasn't well organised either (and the network wasnt working properly).
I really hope things will be fixed this time but somehow I don't feel like it ll be the case

Lol yeah, last year was a joke. The venue was completely in the dark, almost no lights on. Besides, nobody knew of the schedule, even the ESWC staff. I went there to watch some warcraft 3 games but almost nothing was broadcasted on the main stage so I could not see anything, except for a RO game. Also, for the WC3 finals, they forgot to pick Moon and Lyn at their hotel, so it was delayed by more than 2 hours, lol. Well, I hope the next one will be better

Is this a newer tournament? The casters seem to bit.... unexperienced? I don't want to be rude, and maybe I'm spoiled by stuff like MLG and GSL, but they seem to be fairly new to casting SC2? Fun games, and I'll keep watching, but what's with the casters?

ESWC is not new, but new to Starcraft II. This qualification was open for all casters to cast and ItsGosu decided to cast it. Apart of that i'm new to these casters as well
|
Cool, I'm still enjoying it, and like I said, I think I'm just spoiled, but there are little things they say that make me think they are new to casting.
Thnx for the fun games
|
Wow 66k prize pool and so few people signed up? What am I missing out on?
|
Ok I'm not sure if the casters are just delirious or insane or whats going on...
They're saying qxc and idra automatically are top 2, where axslav and the winner of trimaster/minigun will be 3rd and 4th place.
If the bracket plays out and Axslav beats the other guy, then in theory he should face the loser of qxc/idra for 2nd place. There are still like, hotel spots on the line and what not, you can't say that the two guys in winners bracket now are auto top 2 just like that. They should just have the games played out and not cast it, but the tournament doesn't end here. Top 4 is decided here but the order isn't decided on who gets top 2 and 3rd/4th.

Demuslim forfeiting to a team mate, reason: "Demuslim has discovered he cannot attend the event, and therefore needs to forfeit." I think I saw this one before with Haypro ... (IEM qualifier) Kind of unfair for those who get eliminated by these players.
|
ThorZain does this smart, I assume he also requested an invite, but he doesn't take the risk not getting an invite, despite having a huge chance being one of those invitees, and also tries to qualify due to qualifer This is what I call being professional :D

The ones getting eliminated were his own teammate EGiNcontrol & a guy named mass, who was in my honest opinion not really a really concurrent of the top contenders. So no-one really benefits from this, can't imagine it was upset from EG to let DeMusliM eliminate his teammate.....

I'm gonna guess it is because qxc/idra are in the winners bracket therefore they get the top 2 spots.

indeed, I'm kind of shocked that the hosts are still doing such a newbie mistake. also the coverage of this qualifier is really sub par even to regular cups

But it shouldn't be done that way.
But I'm happy they at least have double elimination. There have been quite a few upsets. Socke, Hasuobs and Darkforce fighting in the looser bracket!

that's not the point, the point is that there are many top players NOT participating, sure there are some, but as michiel stated, lot's of Ukrainians and Swedes missing out it seems

Quite suprising to see (besides Thorzain and Bischu) Pomi and ALF.

Tzain went 2 rax marauder into expo. Bishu pushed with a large force with sentries stalkers and immortal got a warprism with sentries and added 2 more gates (1 robo 5 gate on one base), it got spotted and Tzain put troops on the top.
