Criteria and Agreement =D+ Show Spoiler +- All “submitted” designs must be posted in this thread. - Contest submissions and voting are open to anyone in the world. You must be 18 or older to be eligible to win 1st place. - The usage of copyrighted material is prohibited (creativity is key). - Your design must contain ONLY one color (plus shirt color) - Image must feature Tt eSPORTS Logo as well as Tt eSPORTS Dragon (Provided in the media pack link found HERE). - The Design must feature a saying from White-Ra (Special Tactics, etc). - The design must be feasible to reproduce from image. - Your Name or Alias should be included somewhere discrete in the design. - No suggestive language, slander, or inappropriate images may be used in the design. - The initial 3 designs will be chosen by White-Ra and Tt eSPORTS Staff. - The 3 designs will be chosen ONE WEEK FROM CONTEST START. - After one week of submissions, 3 designs fitting the provided criteria will be open to community vote in THIS THREAD. - Tt eSPORTS reserves the right to change any part of the submitted designs. - The winner will have his/her design printed on a limited run of T-Shirts to be sold and distributed by Tt eSPORTS in North America ONLY (meaning if you purchase the shirt outside of the US, the shipping cost will be considerably high to ship outside of the US) - The winning designer must sign a basic release form. - By submitting your design(s) to this thread you agree to all previously listed items.

Just curious, by what method are these shirts being printed?
I work with dye-sublimation printers, which have no white ink, and I know that dye-sublimation is a very popular way of making Jerseys now.

A quick question before I do my final version of my design- is the white-ra.com enough to satisfy the rule:

Hey man, just a suggestion, update your original post with the updated design, having the old and new side by side, so it is easier for you to get feed back, or just show the design along with the new one when making a new post, I think it will help you get better feedback. I like the design over all, but I think it needs some more tweaking, I am not sure yet, and I hope you can make it look even better. Keep up the good work man!

I would suggest moving the text to the back, would be really hard to read on some one facing you. That might just be a personal preference though.

The Ttesports logo at the bottom of the shirt is made to go a little bit around the left side of the shirt.
Same goes for the "Special Tactics" on the sleeves (Just slightly around the sides of the sleeves)

@MMello - I've seen the colour outline on other pro jerseys- was going minimalist before and now I'm making a jersey entry so its pretty expected.
@ J.427 - I really like the design you came up with. I think both back and front look like fronts though- maybe change things up on the back. Also you are using many colours. I think they will let you get away with 2 (red and white) but you can't use a bunch of shades like you do on the energy pulses.
@ commandokablamo - Clever design. Looks good in the range of colours and simple to print.

I don't think this is true. You can't use blizzard images in your design. But if i draw a DT or a warp prism I'm pretty sure you can use that in your design. Blizzard can't hold copyright to your pencil sketch of a zealot. It also can't hold copyrights to things like shapes. for example the protoss logo.
This is why for example think geek can sell this: http://www.thinkgeek.com/interests/giftsunder20/e708/ without copyright issues. There are many other examples. The only shop that is actually licensed as far as clothing is jinx i believe

The thing is there's a difference, the bane-nade isn't actually a baneling, it's a grenade with legs meant to suggest it's a baneling. It's a little different with this sketch since there's no abstraction of what the unit actually is. I might be wrong, I don't know how strict blizzard is with their copyright.

The White in the logo is ok but that doesnt mean the white can be other places on the shirt... Just that they will allow the white from the Thermaltake logo.. I like many of these shirts but they just seem like... Keep in mind they are probably trying to make these with as little cost as possible.. So these super flashy multicoloured shirts are nice and all but they dont seem realistic.. Just designs on a shirt template

I thought there was a difference in the actual logos and the shapes of the logos. But you're probably right, copyright law is a pain...

Don't worry about that so much, we will work with the winning designer on the final layout of the design to make sure everything is kosher =D. Hopefully that answers your question!

It's a contest for the design of the shirt. While I'm sure you could agree the color of the text on the shirt is part of the design, I'm sure the designs will be judged more for their content and how things are placed as opposed to the font color, something which can be easily modified to fit specifications.
I hope that doesn't come off too harsh, just don't think you great designers should be focusing so much if the color is allowed when you're all putting out kickass designs

As a potential customer, I'd say that everyone really needs to stop smothering the whole shirt in logos and quotes. No one wants to be a walking billboard. Simple is the way to go when it comes to clothing!

They should be able to print it as is. I'm assuming since they're limiting the contest to 2 colors that they're going to be using a screen print method which should be fine for the design I made.

i am not sure of the printing process used. so i don't know if some areas of the shirt can be printed on. however the original file is flexible enough that i can change design if necessary :D

Thanks for the comment. After discussing the design with some friends I came to realize that the logo and Tt-esports should be more visable at the front, so I redesigned it so the logo is on the left shoulder and Tt-esports on the right one. Hope this works better, it's a bit rough but you'll get the idea:

Make the GG on the back smaller, it helps to grab a real tee shirt and look at the dimensions, picture how it'd look in real life. Also, "white-ra.com" is too close to the edge of the shirt, in that position it'd be wrapping all the way under your armpit. Hope this helps.

Your immortal color is off. It's a different red than the rest of it and just looks a little weird. Other than that, just be patient. It's nice to see people's reactions to your work but as you can see from the rest of the thread, if people have something to say about your design they'll say it. Just sit back, relax, and enjoy the competition. There's a lot of cool designs in the thread already and I think we'll be seeing a lot more throughout the week! :-)

wow alot of good designs in here, and a nice variety of shirts. I find that my shirts were really "fun" in terms of design. I guess I like to wear that kind of shirt. But, there are alot of really clean and professional looking shirts aswell. I guess the majority preference will win.

Yeah I noticed that you have a particular style. I wasn't by any means saying it was a bad thing though. Just an observation in regards to this particular contest. Either way there's definitely more than 3 solid designs in the thread so it's going to be tough to get into the finals I think.

Creativity is based on inspiration. Yes I used the artwork of valentinesday as inspiration for my design just as the rest (at least most of them) of the submissions used 'intellectual property' (even if it's actually intellectual propert).You would be very restricted in your design for a player that plays sc2 if you can't use sc2 based art.

Yeah I wasn't trying to say anything bad about you using that artwork as your base frame of reference I was just under the impression that we weren't allowed to use our own renditions of Blizzard copyrighted material. I'm just seeing a lot of entries using that type of stuff and if that's OK to use I want to design another entry with that in mind. :D
When I initially approached designing my entry I tried to stay away from that because I didn't want to be disqualified for copyright infringement reasons but if it's allowed then that's a diff story. Ultimately they are going to be selling this shirt and I'm sure they don't want Blizzard suing them for selling something with artwork that would infringe on their IP copyrights so unless they have an agreement reached with Blizzard already I'm not sure where they line should be drawn. Hopefully someone can answer soon.

I agree that a lot of submissions have used Blizzard Copyrighted material but that doesn't make it OK. The contest's terms state, and I quote
- The usage of copyrighted material is prohibited (creativity is key).
That said, inspiration is one thing, yours is a vectored copy. The difference between the two is quite large. If inspired you could have made your own heart w/a completely different design and would have still be 'inspired' the valentine's day WP w/o using anyone else's intellectual property.
I'm not saying this to bash you or pick on you. I'm just stating the contest rules and explaining the difference between 'inspiration' and copy.
Finally, I disagree with your statement that

Using creativity you can avoid infringing their property, and that is pretty much the challenge here. Making your own shirt Otherwise we could all just take Blizz art and make infinite shirts just laying them out differently.

Well I' think the contest sponsors are not TL mods, and TL mods are not here to enforce the rules of a contest. If you don't follow the sponsor's rules then obviously they're not going to consider your entry for winning purposes. But they don't have to shoo you either, this is a public forum.
Again, not trying to bash, but the rules are there for a reason. Don't you copyrighted material and you should be safe. Again, because many entries have ignored it doesn't mean the rule goes away.

Right, sorry when I said mods I meant the contest mods (i.e. White Ra and whoever is involved from TteSports). I was just hoping we could get some clarification on the copyright rule. I would tend to interpret the rule as you have, meaning that you can't use any art that is a copy of Blizzard art or uses Blizzard copyrighted units or characters. However, if they're going to allow art based on Blizzard copyrighted material, as long as it's not a direct copy, that's different. I might just do another design anyways, they never said there was a limit to how many submissions you can have. It would just suck to put a bunch of time and effort into a design that would be disqualified from day 1.

I like the motivational quotes he uses and thought that it would be appropriate and something a little different from what we're used to.

Shirt is one color. Dragon is based off of logo that needs to be "featured" along with some generous Thermaltake logos. 100% original. If you like my design, be sure to quote and comment on it. I have just gone through all the designs and have to say there are quite a few reallly good ones but none thats perfect yet in my opinion.
Just some tips to the designers from my point of view:
1. Dont scale the images too large. If it fills out the whole Shirt it will most likely lap over on the side once someone is wearing the shirt. Also the Thermaltake Dragon in big scales isnt that nice to look at.
2. Dont write things from bottom to top or the other way around. it just doesn't look great and is hard to read with your head tilted . Mostly i've seen this done with the Tt Esports Logo. If you have to fit it somewhere maybe put it on there smaller in a more discrete way that does not break your beautiful design as much.
3. There were a few designs that had some background to it. like the heaxagons of the building grid or something. I think this is a great way to give the image a little more spice. But to those that have those grids all over the shirt in a large scale i have to say that less is in this case often more.
4. As someone before me said, don't fill the whole shirt. No one wants to look like a billboard. Also think of some graffiti on a wall. Theres this really nice piece of art but you won't notice it because the "canvas" (in this case the wall) is too full and even if you see it you get distracted by all the other pictures.
5. I am no pro designer since then i would make a shirt myself but i hope i explained well enough why i think those changes make sense.

As someone that has submitted an entry in this competition I find this a little bit condescending. You simply cannot critique the designs as a whole because all of the designs are different. I know you have the best intentions but if you're going to critique you really should pick out particular designs, if only just as a favour to the designer.

I don't think the post is condescending at all. This is just an opinion which he thought might be helpful to entrants looking to improve their submissions. Picking out and critiquing specific designs doesn't always end well...

I took this into consideration and think you have a good point there. I already sent you a pm with tips on your works which are btw really good.
I didn't criticise specific designs because there are alot of good designs and i don't have the time to go over all of them 1 by 1 so i just wrote down what i think mattered most in what i've seen. I didn't mean to be condescending at all.
To all the others who value my opinion and want to know it please just send me a pm and i'll go over your design and give you tips.

Thanks for all of the positive feedback everyone, im so jazzed I made the final 5 let alone having so many votes. I really hope i win! I'm also more than happy to make adjustments with Ttesports, red on black I think would look pretty sweet.
My favourite (aside from my own :p) is shirt number 3.

I like all the shirts, and maybe its just me but the slavic letters misused for style on #5 seem kind of trite [just my opinion], it looks cool but if you read 'more gg more skill' like it is written it spells out some gibberish in runglish...

I chose this font as I feel that it is inkeeping with both White Ra's background, coming from eastern europe and also feel it fits with the whole protoss aesthetic, hard edges, angular, futuristic looking.
It also seems that the general consensus is that the colours should be flipped round, having red on black - I could post a version of this so people can see how it would look. Would doing this be in bad form or should I just wait until the end of the competition? (just because the feedback seems overwhelming that the colours should be flipped.)

You might try to contact White-Ra and ask him if it's okay to post one with flipped colors.

Hmm.. I think I would prefer it the way it is now. If it was inverted, I would imagine the design wouldn't stick out as much and it wouldn't look as good. Ideally they would make both though.

Love the shirt - bought it from the ThermaltakeUSA ebay shop linked above and was delivered to Ireland without issue.
While the red text on black shirt looks good - I was a little disappointed this is the color TteSports choose, as the black text on red does look way more awesome...
