excluding quebec, omg! sounds good for the others =)
|
It's a pity tournament is for US-residents and Canada only BTW, since when 4-gate push is a rush?
|
Always great to see more and more big names getting into ESPORTS. Thanks Alienware / Dell!
|
I'd have prefered some kind of alienware related prize
Then again, I won't be winning it, and i'm sure the pros that do place would rather have money
regardless, good as alienware
is kiwikaki living in quebec? or is he somewhere else?

Quebec Sweepstakes Law Encourages Sweepstakes Void in Quebec The reason why residents of Quebec are not eligible to enter many Canada sweepstakes is not because the sponsors don't want to advertise in Quebec, and it's nothing personal against any of the residents of that fine province. Rather, many sweepstakes are void in Quebec because the sponsors must follow a stringent set of rules set out by the Quebec government.
For example, in order for sponsor to skip the "void in Quebec" restriction, Quebec sweepstakes law requires that the sponsors must do some or all of the following things:
Register the sweepstakes rules and all advertisements used to promote the contest with the Quebec government at least 30 days ahead of the sweepstake's launch. Pay a fee of up to 10% of the sweepstake's value, depending on who is allowed to enter. Agree to allow the government of Quebec to mediate any lawsuits arising from the contest. Follow strict guidelines about the contents of the sweepstakes rules. Allow the Quebec government to determine if the sweepstake may be changed or canceled once it has started. File a written report after the contest has concluded, attesting that the prizes have been delivered or attempted to be delivered. Agree to follow a number of other rules and guidelines. See the Quebec Sweepstakes Laws.
While these laws are intended to protect the citizens of Quebec, they are also a significant burden of money and resources to sweepstakes sponsors, and the consequences for a mistake are severe. Rather than run the risk of facing legal action if these long and complicated rules are not followed to the letter, many sponsors take the easy route of making their contests void in Quebec.

Why is QUebec always excluded? Sorry if it's a stupid question

On June 19 2011 03:35 heartjc wrote: Why is QUebec always excluded? Sorry if it's a stupid question
Quebec has laws in place that make it difficult for sponsors and prizes etc. Read the post above concerning this.
|
On June 19 2011 03:35 heartjc wrote: Why is QUebec always excluded? Sorry if it's a stupid question
A stupid law which if ignored could mean in a pretty big lawsuit for the sponsor. Also, thanks to this law, if there actually is anything, the sponsor has to pay like 10% of the prize value to the government.

Um... While this tournament looks pretty cool, I worry that the people running it won't know what to provide for the players. After all, they don't seem like the most... up to date tournament hosts.
|
CEVO is running the event. We have done several event with the community already including tactic3d, ttesports, and geforce.
|
Sweet signed up. I assume its 18 or over for prize legality reasons.
|
Cool, I like the initiative. Tomorrow I will be casting at an Alienware event at Dreamhack with several pros competing for a beast computer, should be good. Seems like they are eager to reach out to the hardcore community, 'elite tactics' or not
|
About 40 spots left. Better hurry if you want to take part.
|
Are we required to use Match Network Client (Alienware Arena version)?

Not only are none of them of those elite rather than cheap cheeses, but all of them are hardly used at all anymore. Especially thor drops, haven't seen one of them in a few months.
|
At this moment in time, yes the client is required.

Quebec has different laws compared to the rest of Canada. when it envolve money something of the sort..

Edit: Remind me to read the 3 page of posts before saying something

By popular demand, updated to more "common" tactics. I sure miss some of the old stuff.

We have not created the brackets yet. We will be doing that in the next day or two. You'll have at least 24 hours notice don't worry.
|
So Day 1 isn't going to be broadcasted at all? That's a bit of a shame in my opinion since it's not like upsets are impossible.
|
Is there any way to opt out? I have a work shift from 1pm to 8pm that day (just was informed 10 minutes ago, thought it was free).

"+ One Competitor Pass for MLG Anaheim" wow

ALL I ASK is that u update ur website to handle 10k ppl trying to log in at once... because so far tourneys like this everyone has let us down and it takes 20mins to log in when the matches are starting SO PLEASE FIX THAT ISSUE before the tourney.. god damn if u have 10k ppl signing up for this... u WOULD think that the website can handle that many ppl... but it amazes me that they dont.

Are you by any chance referencing the completely different GeForce Pro/Am tournament, which is in no way related to the Alienware Tournament?

Every tourney that has done this.. geforce is one of them and also there was another one before that with creative... its basically the same tourney just different companies.. that don't understand that there website is going to be FLOODED with people on the day of the tourney all I am asking is that Alienware knows and doesn't do it the same way.

You can reach your opponent through the in-game chat channel based on your bracket here:
Bracket A - channel: arena-a Bracket B - channel: arena-b Bracket C - channel: arena-c Bracket D - channel: arena-d Bracket E - channel: arena-e Bracket F - channel: arena-f Bracket G - channel: arena-g Bracket H - channel: arena-h
Or communicate with them through the match thread system here:
http://www.alienwarearena.com/account/events/
Click on the match you need to play and you will be able to communicate with your opponent.
|
Currently 5 of us in the bracket chat channel, and no sign of a post from my opponent in our match thread - which, by the way, was pretty impressively buried on the site.
I'd be surprised if we manage to make contact before the 15 minute window closes, which is pretty disappointing.
|
So, I tried to report 2-0 win. It reports 0-0 tie, and won't let me change it.
|
ima go out on a limb and say this tournament is poorly run ;o

another online tournament bites the dust..

Round 2 Matches are being scheduled right now and brackets have already been updated.

Cool was wondering what was going on with round 2 cheeers

"Demonstrate your skills with 3-Gate Robo, Marine Drops, and Roach Rushes"
Yeaaaahhh its fairly obvious that these guys know nothing about starcraft...
|
There are soooo many people not showing up to play, it's crazy
|
It is 45 minutes past the scheduled time and I haven't played my third round yet. What's the deal?
|
played in the tsl and was so tired after i lost to mr zenexzero i went to sleeep.. slept thru round 1 gg my face
|
This tournament was poorly run. I never got invited to the game or massage so I get the lost. Plus you can't find their battle id.
|
That is sad then Rushxcel I wont play another Alienware tourney if shit like that is happening.. I think that Alienware just jumped into this sc2 tourney stuff because GEFORCE / Plantronics did it.. and just sad really companies think they can just BUY there way into the hearts of gamers and they cant .. I will remember this because i couldn't even find out if I had a FFL or not because there website gave no direction. Also I got the email saying i was playing at like 5:30pm PDT when i was suppose to play at 5pm CDT so I mean Geforce emailed me like days before my event. All good never again.
|
I agreed. GEFORCE did an amazing job giving u email like 2 days before the match and it's easy to report the score on the top of the website.
|
whoops lol totally forgot about this tournament, a notification would have been nice, i went through the brackets, looked like i wasn't placed in any anyways, guessing you had to check in?
|

exact same system was used in this tournament.... there was even channels with everyone in them with admins as well...
|
Is there a channel online where players in this tourney go or a way to contact admins?
|
Arena 1 is the battle.net chat chan, Rich.

thats kind of correct, but from my understanding that company is kind of quebec government run, and require promoters with events to pay them a percent of the prize to be eligible to give it away in quebec... and that percentage is up to 10% based on who is eligible. Meaning that it could cost several hundred dollars extra to just make quebec law happy... Not to mention paperwork and a few other hoops to jump through. One being that they cant advertise or do anything regarding the promotion until Quebec ok's the promotional material, advertisements and anything used in the event before the event is announced to the public or it becomes invalid. Meaning if there is a broadcast of the event or whatever they have to Ok that broadcast in its entirety before the tournament is ran =/ meaning that is impossible, as the games being broadcasted havent even been played or the tournament even starting yet....
TL:DR Quebec has very weird laws making gaming tournaments impossible to run.
