Yep.

Jeb Bush and Christie are the Republicans I wouldn't mind overmuch but Cruz? Hah. ahahahahaha.

The only reason Christie would be an entertaining choice is that he is just so overtly and obviously corrupt that I don't think he would last very long. Being close to Jersey, I hear quite a bit about his shenanigans.

I'd be worried that being corrupt might turn out to be exactly the reason why someone lasts very long.

well, I mean, almost all of them are corrupt. They just do a better job of hiding it than Christie does

Yeah, I remember that thing where a commuter highway was forced down to one lane, not because of construction, but supposedly because it was the commuting route for someone that had cheesed Christie off. Christie himself was never linked to it but still, those are some real petty brown-nosing subordinates he's in charge of and so therefore he's at least partially responsible.

He's a Republican, that's kind of implied.

Granted the Democrats aren't far too different.

I'm interested to see how Bernie Sanders develops as a potential candidate. He seems like he actually cares and wants things to change, but there are a lot of hurdles in his way right now.

A lot of hurdles? He's as likely to win primaries and the national election as Trump or Palin is right now. Unless one of them was also the Republican candidate.

On a less-depressing (read: not-politics) note, does anyone know what some good Sword Coast canon is? Is it all Baldur's Gate and related games or are there good books in that setting?

(if you like D&D and haven't heard much about Sword Coast Legends, you should probably get on that)

Well, I'm kinda hoping he runs as an independent, which is really what would cause him issues. It's probably a bit of a disillusioned dream, but breaking away from the two party grid lock needs to happen. But as far as I'm aware, right now, he just doesn't have the funding and backing that any of the other definite candidates have.

It's a bit awkward being a person who wants money out of politics. I really don't want to donate my money to campaigns or candidates, but that's sadly necessary for anything to get done.

Exactly, and it's really quite sad. I don't necessarily agree with all of his viewpoints, but I'm on board with a lot of what he says. I think he could do quite a lot of good in the office. Who knows, maybe this country is starting to open up to change.

All of the srs Republican candidates this time around have major issues.

Ted Cruz is branded as so right wing that minorities and moderates will never vote for him, so even if he gets the Republican base enough on his side to win primaries he will lose in the general.

Jeb Bush has the Bush name, which I feel like is still a big enough deal with people to just default cost him the election, but probably not as serious as Ted Cruz's issues.

Christy is just known for being a corrupt asshole, and New Jersey likes him because that's the sort of people that New Jersey likes, but it won't work in the rest of the country.

2016 will be a pretty good year for Democrats, IMO.

Whoa from everything I've seen you guys basically have legalized corruption in your politics so you telling me this Christy guy is so corrupt he goes further than what's already the legal normal level of corruption? That's intense.

I have never met anybody from Jersey that likes Christy.

The Sword Coast is a pretty broad area. Waterdeep, Neverwinter, Luskan, and the Icewind Dale all technically count as part of the Sword Coast. Most of those are featured prominently in some R.A. Salvatore novel or another, and I think Waterdeep's had a supplement written about it in pretty much every edition.

Historians are going to have a field day with this era of politics, and the Citizens United ruling in particular.

The worst part is we've basically been here before:

My favorite politics moment recently is when Mitt Romney said that he wouldn't run because he thought a Republican candidate right now has a better chance of winning if they're some new person and nobody knows who they are and can't associate them to existing Republicans.

Because it's so fucking true.
