Why push for legend when I can just mess around and have fun with decks that have promising ideas rather than ones that have boiled down to distilled bullshit? Don't you know you can't have fun if you aren't winning?
Thing is if you losing at rank 15 it's not about not having legendaries. There's plenty of cheap decks you can run that gets you pretty dam far if you just play them well.

Yea I'm kind of talking to Alaric who thinks legendaries or expensive cards are the only way to win when it's more likely he's just not playing the decks that well in the first place.
|
Neither did I (I asked if Rogue was playable without Leroy specifically though, and obviously since the other deck I'm using is Control Warrior, sometimes Demonlock because that shit is stupid fun when you're not getting too stomped to set up anything, they usually rely on rare finishers (bunch of legendaries for Warrior, replacements prob exist though, or Jaraxxus/Molten Giants for Demonlock)). Rank 15 is literally more than half cancer hunters though, and most people (hunters or not) seem to use Leroy.
I'm not thinking they're the only way to win, I'm frustrated when games are decided because the other guy plays a legendary, or because had I drawn a legendary instead of the replacement I'm running, I would have won. It's obviously not always the case, and there were games where an Argent Commander, Crystal Golem or sometimes even Wolf Rider would have finished me off al the same. But it happens with some regularity, and when you had epics into the mix (Highmanes spam, Ancient for Druids or Molten Giants for Warlock) it goes up to more than half my opponents having better card quality (not in term of deck building, but what they own over me using replacements) so it's bound to decide some games.

Legendaries do help though. Back when I played, before I got Leeroy, I had to sub in either Reckless Rocketeers or a Argent Commander for him. Neither were anywhere close to being as good and I lost a handful of games purely because of the drop in card quality on a single card.
|
How do I put this. Legendaries do help yes but if you losing at that rank it's generally not because you don't have a legendary. That's not to say the legendary wouldn't have won you the game, it's just that you could have won it without it but due to mistakes it didn't happen. Basically if you losing because of the 2 damage difference Leeroy has over Arcane I feel there were other holes in your play that could have made the difference. As you get further up rank sure it becomes more needed to have these cards but at 14-18 I don't think that's true.
This might just be anecdotal evidence but from my personal experience ranking up in that area I almost never had a leeroy that wasn't overkill. I see you said you were trying to run a control warrior. I think that's the most expensive deck in the game to get working 100% so maybe that's an issue?
|
Na, the Warrior gets smashed by Hunters before I reach the turns where I could drop legendaries anyway. Issue being that I also have to play it differently since the missing cards (including epics like Shield Slams which are very important as removal) mean I have to be more proactive, as I lack finishers. I can certainly improve on that front (I don't play Control Warrior optimally, and I don't play my variant optimally either so it combos for a bunch of mistakes; also one of the reasons I like the deck though, makes you take a bunch of decisions) but having a stronger "safety net" would also be much more forgiving when playing for the long run. That's also why I'm mostly talking about the Rogue, since it only misses Leroy and Mukla compared to the "full" Backspace Rogue, so it's easier to draw comparisons (well much easier with Leroy than Mukla, seeing how its role is basically the same as Crystal Golem, only with 2-6 less reach depending on Shadowsteps in hand and turn).
|
Yeah well when you are lacking cards you just can't play every deck you want to. Certain decks can use cheaper alternative cards but if you want a truly powerful deck then yes it needs some legendaries. Having your cake and eating it too is just asking to have the product dumbed down even further for your casual exploits. The game really isn't that hard at face value, but it's certainly a LOT harder if you are limited by card choices. It's one or the other.

From my experiencce playing hunter and watching Trump play control warrior that first statement just isn't true. Are you running unstable ghouls and sludge belchers? Those are the two really big obstacles for hunters to get past. If they blow removal on them but don't win quickly it means they don't have removal for the big threats later. Armoursmith behind either of them is also pretty deadly. Gromish is pretty much the most important legendary I think for control warrior as it synergies so dam well with deathsbite for a finisher.

I really want aggro warrior to work. I had moderate success the other night. :OOOO POWER OVERWHELMING iloveyouguys

Well that's the thing: I don't have much that can measure up to the huge value of Savannah Highmanes. EagleHorn deals with unstable ghouls and is easily replenished by mad scientists. Sludge Belchers are sometimes a bit slow (I feel like I'm hugely dependant on getting them early as Death Bite's deathrattle is a bit slow itself, my lack of good finishers/turnaround cards like Alex makes me feel pressured to end earlier than a real Control Warrior deck so I'm uneasy when I don't get a good start and have to armor up, but that may be false).
Basically, my lack of strong late game means that even stuff like Sludge Belchers are valuable to me, which makes it very awkward to deal damage to Hunters for fear of a freezing trap that cripples my board. I feel like it also reduces the value of armorsmiths because they mostly offer stalling, but I don't have that much to stall for (I usually win vy removing most of what the Hunter has, and then I don't finish him so much as he concedes because he feels stuck). A Hunter's Mark to my Sludge Belcher is a big hit, while I assume more "furnished" decks are 0K with it, for example (and Kill Command is basically free). Maybe I should try playing Feugen/Stalagg more aggressively instead of just defending every turn (I'm usually worried I'll lose too many HP if i don't already have a taunt up and the Hunter decides to ignore them to just go for face).
Maybe I should learn when to save cards like armorsmith/acolyte of pain in the early turns if I don't have a taunt yet, and armor up, to play "combos" later when I have more mana and I hit a Death Bite or an Unstable Ghoul. The lack of Shield Slam to Shield Slam -> Cleave and remove a Highmane makes them stupidly harsh on my life total though.
Hang on Wave! o/

I went to bed at 10 last night. I can't remember the last time I did that. Moving fucking sucks. Also braved the crazy long commute only to find out I was half an hour early after waking up at 6. I get to stay here doing not much today until 530 is, at which point I gotta go to the apartment to try and cram some stuff in my car the moving truck couldn't fit, then drive home, shove food in my face, set up my computer and stuff, and then go to bed so I can do it all over again tomorrow.

This is what it all comes down to. I just played a control warrior whose only legendary was Gromish. He didn't win but it went down to 2 cards left for each of us and was a dam hard game. It's all about getting max value out of your cards instead of just putting them down whenever you can. You don't just want to put down an acolyte if he's just going to get 1 draw, same as you don't want to just put down armoursmith if you only going to get 1 armour from it. Think instead of shield slam/cleave he had whirlwind/ooze and a growhowl which I think you can use arcanite to get similar effect. You can even throw in an owl/spellbreaker if you having huge issues with the highmanes. I'm not saying you going to get to legendary rank with it but from my own experience and what I've spoken to people you can definitely get a lot higher than where you at.
All I'm really trying to say is just stick with it. You'll get there eventually

This morning is the worst. Got out of my car and tripped, ripping a hole in my pants pocket that is progressivly getting bigger. These pants were old so I don't care too much about it, but the part that pissed me off was that my phone charger was in my pocket and its one of those cheap iphone shitty ones so now my phone isn't charging and I can't watch twitch from work. I actually have to DO things today >:|.

Caught them on the corner of a screen door and now even I won't wear these things out in public.
