There are people who say that Evangelion is this deep psychological or even religious story with all this crazy meaning and well thought out underlying mumbo jumbo. There are also people who say it's just another robot anime and the symbolism is all pretty much bullshit. I don't think either of these opinions are wrong. It's both, and it can be watched both ways, and both ways are equally correct. Personally, I prefer to see the show as a psychological story. I don't really think the robot stuff is all that amazing, and I think the religious symbolism that they put in is well done and well researched, but mostly fluff and for shock value. However, I don't think I've ever seen a cartoon do a better job of trying to show what it's like to be clinically depressed than Evangelion does, and that's where I really think the show shines and deserves the accolades that it's gotten over the years. But that's just what I like about it. | ||

Not all of his films do this but enough of them that it gets annoying after awhile and I'm not going to hold back taking a shot at him for it. Dude's made it in a global sense, clearly he's doing something right. Just sometimes I'd wish he'd do more Porco Rosso and less Nausicaa. As far as Eva goes, it's meh to me. I don't like it I don't dislike it. It just didn't leave much of an impression on me besides an understanding that the show is a tad crazy and they really should of budgeted better. On the upside it's insanity is like a good quarter of all AMV hell's so that's a plus. | ||

So it's him and the girl that appears to be Asuka but we don't really have any cannon if she's just her or some kind of hybrid of the 3 women in his life. If you dig too deep into it you get all these crazy fan theories etc. so I think it's better just to take it as is. The emo kid finally stop being so dumb and decided not to end life completely, instead he accepts that life sometimes is shit and chooses to live. Why he choses to struggle her? I don't know. There's plenty of theories but never read anything that made me think "yea that makes 100% sense". I think it's partially because he feels jealous that he has to share is not being dumb with someone else and partially because Gainax took too much LSD or maybe he's just into that shit. I mean he did blow a load on her chest didn't he while she was sleeping so maybe he read some BDSM stuff and didn't realize you meant to strangle yourself while fapping not her. The guy gets to sex up hot girl for the rest of his life to populate the earth again. Unless of course she decides that she can't do it and lets humanity die lol. And whatever Gainax initially wanted done wrt that, the cross-shaped explosions definitely is one of these "because it looked cool" things.  Didn't even watch End of Evangelion yet, only the original 26. + Show Spoiler + Main issue I had was that "Why are they showing dead people (including the purple-haired woman)?", as we have no idea how that happened, and it doesn't in any way suggest that Instrumentality happened and everyone but Shinji merged/melted. I got the getting over his issues (well, some of them) thing, but the rest really felt like "here's the result, won't tell what lead to it though". | ||

Then again, I don't watch a lot of anime, I usually read manga, so there's that. I think the last anime I watched was Guilty Crown, and I didn't even bother finishing that since it got stupid near the end I stopped with I think 1 ep to go. I do want the Akame ga Kill anime though.... I should go and watch some of the older anime that I never bothered too as a kid, but there's too much dota/SC to watch TT, ignoring LoL since I find it hard to watch now since the casters are crap, like literally on the level with MLG's CoD casters bad. | ||
