Lets fucking go!! Also great to see, that they adapt and take this regular season format for the qualifiers this time around.

WTL regular season format for the Qualifiers is a good change in my opinion.

I wonder what teams we'll see assembled for this purpose

Looking forward seeing Basilisk

Here's to the fifth year of SCBoys' team league! Lasted longer than Proleague lol.

"There will be a new big name joins WTL", rumor from Chinese community.

Yea, but Proleague didn't have Garden baby gaming vs Team Rotti. Quality > Quantity

Roster for qualifier is out, and I would like to see Rotti (on team Basilisk) play against Team Rotti. NV would be playin again under new name (ABYDOS).
|
Surprised Freecs isn't playing, with them picking up Stats returning from the military and having soO and Armani as a competitive trio (plus KeeN and aLive both seem still competing).
|
China6327 Posts
Yeah no idea why KDF isnt playing.
|
I think all of their players are semi-retired, Keen and Armani barely play in anything outside of GSL qualifer, and TY/Stats hasnt been super active since coming back from military neither.

The owner (or Manager?) of Plat Heroes beat Nakajin in publishing his own Power Rank for the qualifiers:

That's what I get for saying PH would be happy to win a single match in their qualifier
I do am making one too tho, seems like we're fairly on the same page this time around.

CSO is in pretty big trouble

Has HonMonO joined K10 or is he being loaned from PREP?
It's hard to tell if PREP still exists.
EDIT:
I guess it doesn't really matter since they fell at the first hurdle.

To no ones surprise, Basilisk is the first team through

Vanya coming good for STARCOM in the ace match. That's a great result for them!

Final spot being decided today!

Didn't get everything in order but still got the 5 qualified team. None if my prediction crashed and burned, seems like I have not become a true TL writer yet.

Don't see a pen on that profile

Here's my totally fullproof prediction of who will advance to the main tournament from Code A tomorrow by taking the top 3 aligulac-ranked players from each team (aligulac average score in parentheses):
1) Basilisk: Serral, Reynor, trigger (3090) - will qualify. No surprise here. 2) ABYDOS: Cure, Creator, sOs (2904) - will qualify. Another expected result. 3) Mystery Gaming: DRG, Classic, Nice (2709) - will qualify. Will prob take the bronze. 4) Starlight Twinkle: Spirit, Cham, ReWhite (2322) - will qualify. Competition here may heat up for the last 5 teams to grab 2 spots. 5) Platinum Heroes: goblin, DnS, Shadown (2260) - will qualify
6) Berserker eSports: Spatz, BattleB, Radko (2180) - will be eliminated 7) Team STARCOM: Wayne, Kas, Brat_OK (2111) - will be eliminated 8) Invictus Gaming: MacSed, XY, BreakinGG (1823) - will be eliminated. IG always surprises. Won't be surprised if they qualify.

According to Liquipedia, the Code A opening match today is goblin vs ... Rotterdam?!
|
Holy shit, that means Basilisk might get knocked down to the Lower Bracket?
|
China6327 Posts
PH 100% got a mega match up that favors them. Bold for Basilisk to be this cocky.

Canada8988 Posts
MYG could also very well get knock down to the lower bracket, things may get interesting.

Wow, thats some nasty build from Rotti there, amazing win.

Mass Phoenix to bait Goblin into making Stalker, and then a 2 base pressure with 3-4 Immortal and Stalker push, Goblin never saw it coming.
|
The first three games of iG against MYG:
MacSed 1-1 Nice BKGG 1-0 DRG
|
I have no idea who Nanami is so this is looking pretty good for iG..?

Yes

XY 1-1 Nanami
Yes, XY is still afraid of Protoss players...

I'm surprised Mystery didn't go with DRG for the ace match.

Berserker on their way to knocking definitely not NV ABYDOS down to the lower bracket!
|
Cure busy playing Wardi tournament and not sending sOs out instead of Quanta spell trouble for NV guys
|
Maybe NightMare is about to save their blushes.
|
Spatz taking the decider against Creator. Massive result for Berserker!
|
|
PvP is even more unpredictable than ZvZ these days. And not sure why Cure isnt playing the Ace match when he finished his match with MaxPax before that.

Most exciting TVP I've ever seen

Kas is always good to watch.

Vanya on the brink of taking this game to an ace match as well!

And one of MYG/PH/Abydos will not make it.
|
According to Berserker eSports, who were in RotterdaM's Twitch chat, Spatz outmicroed Creator on west, which was an unfavourable server location for Spatz.
|
ABYDOS on track to have the easiest bracket path, cleverly dodging the PH/MYG matchup. So I really can't see them not qualifying; unless IG pulls off another upset and sends Basilisks down to the lower bracket.
|
Nice is benched today and Strange is playing for Mystery Gaming instead.
|
|
Massive upset for Mystery Gaming to go out so soon.
|
They appeared mysteriously, and they left mysteriously. I would love to say "that's what you get for not playing at full strength", but honestly, all the players they used should have been good enough to qualify or atleast make it a longer run...

Yeah, DRG and Classic going a combined 1-3 is shockingly bad.
|
MYG w/d ratio: Nanami 3.0 Nice 2.5 DRG 2.0 Classic 2.0 Strange 1.0
Oh, my god! Nanami is the best.
|
Aaaaand Nice already left the team. I assume the won't stick around until next season and just hope to find a spot in a qualified team?

Now the question is whether it's a longer contract or something specifically for the purpose of WTL, when in this case I'll expect others to depart not too long after

Oh what the fuck SLT is also bankrolled by team owner's own salary, who literally just graduated last year. Probably from a decently wealthy family background, but still, what the fuck that's ballsy.

From the remaining matches in Code A, Berserker eSports versus Invictus Gaming is the one I am most excited about.

I mean...the rest of the matches are basically for like a ~100$-ish difference per player. Not exactly super-exciting

Who knows if Reynor can beat his nemesis. It would be such an underdog story

The IG line live's on. Get ready for 11 weeks of slighly above average mediocrity.
(but more seriously, good job by IG making it)
|
I wanted Berserker eSports in Code S, but Invictus Gaming managed to qualify yet again. BreakingGG caught Spatz by surprise twice, first with roaches and then with a nydus. MacSed defended well against DIMAGA's armies in both of the games they played.
GG Invictus Gaming!
|
What is it with teams not sending strongest players out and lose?
|
ReWhite won the most important game!
|
On April 02 2023 23:26 tigera6 wrote: What is it with teams not sending strongest players out and lose? 1. ABS thinks their score will be 4-0 after first two matches, so the third player does not matter. 2. The money difference is small between teams so they (especially sOs) did not care.
|
I mean, Mystery Gaming also didnt send out Classic nor Abydus didnt send out Cure in their Upper Bracket matches as well. And I personally think that cost Mystery Gaming a slot in WTL code S this season, btw they just sign Bunny (3 weeks too late).
|
the new rumor:
Mage said Alpha X might be only two players who could play the matches in WTL 2023 Summer. Alpha X might quit this season.
source in Chinese: https://www.scboy.cc/?thread-467584.htm
Which team will replace it? Berserker eSports as the 6th place of Code A or Berserker eSports, Mystery Gaming and Team STARCOM will play the matches by round-robin? No one knows.
|
China6327 Posts
This is not a rumor, Mage flat-out announced Alpha X is forfeiting their WTL slot. Alpha X is also currently under the process of being acquired.
|
So we are going to have Astrea (if he still want to play WTL) and Ragnarok for the pick up, along wtih Classic as well, because he just finish his contract with Mystery Gaming. Which really make me wonder, why the HELL did they sign Bunny to begin with?
|
China6327 Posts
Berserker (6th in Code A) likely to take Alpha X's spot.
|
It's unfortunate Alpha X are forfeiting their spot. RagnaroK and Astrea played well last season. With another player on their roster, they would again have been one of the stronger teams in WTL.
|

I feel like SCboy should step in and try to work out something with the owners/managers, because at this rythm we'll have 5 or so teams that straight up aren't competitive while Classic, Bunny, Astrea and Ragnarok sitting out.
|
I dont think we will have 5 weaker teams, some upsets have already shown what Berserker and Ph can do and also IG, especially if underestimated. The top might be clearer but this is a team competition so players just joining a team or not even banding together in a team but not getting payed for it cuz its just cuz of their quality and for the price money would demotivate actual teams. Who would not be happy to have these players on the team for no charge themselves? WHo would lose a spot for this put together roster? neither solution seems fair. So ax dropping out and berserker coming in is fair. Its not like we are gonna complaining about Showtime and gabe not playing for seasons cuz they are on 1 player teams or like serral was on ence. neither of them got randomly drafted to a team cuz they are too good to not be in WTL. So no we cant just support ax or MYG here to finance these players or just put them on another or their own roster, that would simply not fit or be unfair.I feel like SCboy should step in and try to work out something with the owners/managers, because at this rythm we'll have 5 or so teams that straight up aren't competitive while Classic, Bunny, Astrea and Ragnarok sitting out.

Some of the other teams will say flat out no to the organizer directly helping their rivals if it directly hurts them. Should Berserker sit out because aX is technically better ? Not that fair, what makes most sense is simply to drag the qualifying spot out to 6th. Why they should suffer because of circumstances outside of their own fault ?
|
Gumiho still hasnt found a team yet, right? Maybe all these players should just get together and make-up some team name and start making money from WTL.
