I think he had an infestation pit, but I'm not sure and not sure if anything else.

He was suggesting that Zest could kill everything before the hive so he didn't have to deal with broodlings until Soulkey was eliminated. At least that's what I got from it.

He had spores so that wouldn't have been a problem. Either way neither of the players had the info we had so theorycrafting is kind moot.
