Circumstance, apprentice of Lorning, prepares his LR thread, gathering the black sorcery of the LR gods. BTW, thanks for the thread.
Also, I am super stoked for these groups. Normally I'd make a snide remark about Protoss, but Zest is just so fucking good at this game I'm going to watch him dismantle everything in his path before also praying at the shrine of Innovation, god of macro. Seriously, Zest, I want to see some absolutely fucking bananas Protoss play with 350 APM of Warp Prism harassment and Phoenix micro.

Well Carmac commented yesterday, and it seems to be recurrent problem for every events in China
On July 17 2014 10:19 Kimb3r wrote: Why are they organizing events in China then? Then that is the first big mistake they make.
Because they want to bring events where there usually aren't a lot. Like Sao Paolo etc.
I know that.. but they should specifically prepare themselves and take all possibilities into account before preparing such an event and take precautions. If they want to bring eSports to those countries, they have to be able to manage it properly.

Indeed. If there's any organization I trust to run a proper SC2 event and get it right, it's Carmac and Co.

Love the time predictions on the OP. Aren't power outages somewhat common in tournaments over the last 2 years? I think I recall at least 3, but I can't remember which events.

Okay. So the camera turns on, and they're staring with weary bemusement. Then they slowly turn to one another. Apollo's hand weaves its way into Kaelaris's hair. Their eyes meet. Tongues lock. The kiss is so intense it makes Tasteless passionate again. We're entirely drawn in. The stream breaks all time highest viewer records. Then they turn back to the camera and sigh and get on with the games.

Kaelaris gently puts his hand on Apollo's cheek. Their eyes meet, a slow smile brightens up Apollo's face. "Cheeky", he says as he leans in to meet Kaelaris' hungry lips with his own.

At this point, I am vehemently hoping that the problems are streaming related and not SC2/internet related, so that they can at least get the players going, as it does no good for the players to sit on their asses doing nothing for 4 hours when they were expecting to play.

It's been well-established that the problems have been the power at the venue. A circuit broke yesterday, in fact.

It's probably just a chain of ESL workers complaining to Carmac and Redeye, and the 2 of them complaining to the convention's coordinators.
I like to think ESL have set up a thunderdome where Carmac and crew fight Spider and NASL Sound Guy to a fight to the death.
In this corner, the Shaper of Dreams! Titan of Esports Business! The legendary Carmac!
And in the other corner, the shadowy visage of audiological death himself! The Silencer! The Undisputed Sensei of White Noise! NASL SOUND GUY!
As the fight begins, the power goes out, and when it's restored, we see only Sundance standing over their bruised corpses, his laptop dented in one corner, and a single splash of blood across the MLG logo on his chest.
On July 17 2014 12:14 partydude89 wrote: is it really that big of a deal if the stream is up or not? either way, the games aren't starting.
I imagine the idea is something like "if the stream goes down, that's another thing they have to fix before the show can start, which gives everything else yet more opportunities to stop working. Again."

Zest taking very heavy damage, loses first Colo and most of his army and lots of Probes at nat. Zest was being pretty greedy, small army and double Forge and Twilight researching Blink. Jjakji seems to have punished him for it.

Man it's nice to watch a super high level game after WCS AM qualifiers. Not that they weren't entertaining, for the most part (avilo) but this is just a joy to stay up for.
Jjakji played far too passive after getting a great upgrade lead. You cannot play that way versus a Korean Protoss like Zest - he will crush you with his python grip every time.

He pulled all the SCVs, except one base. So there was no going home, no way to macro out of that. You either kill that army and crush the production to win, or you die.

With SCV pull you want to kill, even killing the third would result in net loss, even ignoring the tech disadvantage.
Zest wasn't on templar tech yet. But otherwise you are right.
When it is metric fuckton of collosi and enough blink stalkers to deal with small groups of vikings (not to mention upgrades), that is essentially straight tech advantage against what jjakji had even without hts.

Especially since he's had time to prepare a counter to TRUE's Ling/Corruptor style. No one plays a better long-term game with big strategic goals than Zest.
Zest isn't 100% mathematically guaranteed until he wins this tournament (or at least places highly), but it's basically like "If he doesn't fail absolutely everything, he's in"

Zest is not that good in my opinion*. His history is not impressive, he didn't show up on the radar until this year because of... reasons.
*This means its an opinion, just in case you weren't sure it was an opinion
Destroying SKT in PL, GSL champ and GSL quarter finalist is a short history but it is a history. But of course you are entitled to that opinion.
Certainly impressive feats on their own and everyone can have their big moment, but hes been around for at least 3 years and as far as I know not much to show for it. In contrast, Jjakji has a long history of being a top level player in major tournaments throughout the world
At the very least, Illusion did get his best matchup. He loves his TvP. But if he loses to San, he gets his worst matchup, as his series against Masa in the qualifiers shows quite clearly.

That was painful. It did NOT seem like Illusion's regular TvP at all. Might have just been because of how damn good San is, might be a nerve issue, I dunno. And now, of course, Jjakji will quite simply annihilate Illusion, whose TvT is quite subpar.
There is little entertainment value in these games because you are just seeing the same thing that always happen on ladder and in previous tournament games.
So is San's name with the long "A" sound or the short "A"? I hear Tastosis say San with the short "A" but Suzy and the casters pronounce it with the long "A" sound. Any clarification on which is right? Or is it preference?

I will try to cheer very hard for Inno and give good support, so please cheer for me.
Wait a minute didnt you lose a year long sigbet against me!
It wasn't year long, it was for a few (undisclosed number) of months. I would have never subjected you to a signature that would remind you of Innovation losing for an entire year. That's just cruel.
I changed it literally yesterday, the day Shellshock said you came back from the dead. It was meant to be.

And Innovation looked down and whispered, "No."
I think you're using the reference wrong.
Innovation is the scourge of ZParCraft? Pretty legit to me!
Looks like Zest showing San who is boss in PvP. Calling Zest to 4-0 whoever he meets in the final, provided someone else knocks out Taeja, who is arguably the best Terran in the tournament and playing against Zest's worst match up.

Seems like ESL just wasn't given the number of stages it needed by the convention. I know that last night, they were casting the Hearthstone from Susie's couch.
These interviews have been pretty great. Looking forward to seeing this tournament shape up in the next couple days, seems like there's just not many people so far. Still, despite all of the issues, it's been pretty enjoyable.

Ahh okay, didn't know that. Thanks for the clarification! :D

they have a huuuuuuuuuuuuge delay, that's all, and hearthstone is the playoffs, so they have priority on stage over sc2 group stage

Sucks that it is kicking SC2 off of main stage.
I think a few of tournaments are getting 50+ k in viewers just from China alone with Hearthstone. It's massive in Asia.

Oh, I understand why they would shift it over at this point, I'm not disputing that. I just think that one of the venue issues might be why they need to shift around. I don't understand what the delay has to do with it.

you don't? group A should have been finished by now!
I have a weird question. Is bronze league a single MMR? Or can you be low bronze in MMR. All I want to know is, if I lose 1k games after I get to bronze (no wins), will it take me longer to get to silver or not?

Oh, I get you now. You think they had it planned out with the existing stage setup, and the delay forced them to do more with less. Probably more reasonable than what I was thinking.
What do they feed these guys in Switzerland? Koreans can't win in Korea, they go to that house, they face Koreans who actually did stay in Korea, and they go toe-to-toe with them, often winning.

Jjakji did fine when he was in Korea too. He was one of the last 4 surviving Terrans in Code S before the switch.
Watching snute play swarmhost, it feels like he is playing with them for the first time. His positioning throughout the game has been awful. He lost so many swarmhosts and vipers needlessly.

He is pretty vocal about not liking them, but SHs are good on Overgrowth.
San just succeeded in getting the most sponsorship exposure any player has done in a high-profile tournament that I've ever seen. Value Hair got their money's worth in their YFW sponsorship.

Snute is so good with SH, it's just that Stork is so good. In fact all the Koreans seem really good vs SH, I guess in the Kespa houses they really made a team effort to figure them out .

Hard to say which is more true - Inno was godlike or TRUE was scrublike.
Inno rolled him as though he was powered by Fantasy's Code A frustrations.
I take it as godlike INno
I wouldn't want to be in Snute's shoes right about now, let's put it that way. Snute turned to SH to beat Stork, and his reward for that will be going up against Innovation in ZvTerminator mode.
bleh, for a layman, it looks like Snute doing his best to throw this - 7k minerals, not making any spines to protect the mining bases, not taking new ones in the top right/bottom left .... does he want to remax on 300 zerglings later on or why is he saving those minerals and not spending ~3k ?
Good matches on day 2, But man are some of the mods uptight, get banned for asking why I had some issues with some lag spikes Kappa. Some of the mods like Infeza need stop banning people for asking legit tech issues on the stream.
I'm looking forward to day 3, hopefully chat wont be banned for asking tech questions. I loved when Rotti and Nathan streamed, much more helpful mods. To many people in chat perm banned for no reason, come on twitch mods get real like Nathan and Rottie.

Ehm... Firecake - Mana anyone. Once again it is proven. Once it gets to this stage, or even halfway. It cannot be beaten. Which is why 2 base is so popular in PvZ.

Leave me alone! Not my fault Jjakji can't resist the SCV pull ;^;
all i'm saying can we have Nathan and Rotti modding day 3 main stage stream? They are good people, mods today were banning people for no reason, asking tech questions. Please Twitch mods, banning people for no reason does not make you more of a man, thanks.

The problem is there's no insanely microable unit that synergizes well with the SH. It's the exact same reason Tank + Raven is boring as shit, because there's no Vulture-equivalent that scales like crazy with great mechanical play and great multitasking.

I remember when long time ago someone went hatchblock and then took 2 additional bases vs MKP's 14CC on high ground. People were saying that you don't get queens fast enough to capitalize on your eco. Is that TRUE* for ZvP too?
